Two Marathi plays to be staged at Prithvi Theatres
P.S. Rege’s Marathi novel ‘Savitri‘ has already popularized among sensible readers in Maharashtra. The novel revolves around a young woman Savitri, who with her poetic mind has written letters to her boyfriend during the period April 1939 to June 1947. The curiosity of readers unfolds through these letters. In today’s correspondence through facebook and whatsapp, the letters of Savitri still makes interesting reading. And therefore, director Ravindra Lakhe with the help of actress Dr. Priya Jamkar decided to present Savitri’s character through this play at Prithvi Theatres, Juhu on Tuesday 22nd November at 9 pm. This Marathi play will be produced by Miti-char, Kalyan and presented by Astitva, Mumbai. Music by Kaushal Inamdar and lighting by Makarand Mukund are the other credits of this play.
On the same day, at 6 pm Astitva, Mumbai will also present Rising India Research Foundation, Pune’s Marathi play ‘Kasab Aani Mee‘ written by Adhish Paygude and directed by Deepak Karanjikar, with lighting by Shital Talpade. This play stars Adhish Paygude, Vidya Karanjikar and Deepak Karanjikar.
Astitva which has already made a good beginning, by entering Prithvi Theatres with their previous Marathi play ‘Agdich Shoonya‘ and receiving good response, hope to receive the same response for these two plays.

KIVI Productions to stage ‘Apradh Mich Kela’ with Ramesh Bhatkar in the lead
For the past few years, we have been watching revival of old Marathi plays. Three years ago stage actor Kishore Sawant had also attempted this experiment by reviving old hit Marathi play ‘Wahato Hi Durvanchi Judi‘ , which was directed by Vilas Gurjar. Kishore staged this play under his Kishore Theatres . Having performed on stage since 1980, Kishore become busy thereafter with his job in a financial institution. In 1997, he had made his debut in commercial theatre performing an important role in the same play.
So far, 60 shows of this play were staged and during the 50th Golden jubilee show, he had invited popular personality of Marathi stage Mr. Gangaram Gavankar as a chief guest. And the show was a tribute to writer Late Bal Kolhatkar. The direction of this revived play is handled by Vijay Gokhale.
In the meanwhile, Kishore Sawant along with his stage actor friend from Kuwait Vivek Naik has launched another stage production ‘KIVI ‘ Productions, which will soon stage another hit revived play ‘Apradh Mich Kela‘ with versatile actor Ramesh Bhatkar in the lead. Along with Ramesh Bhatkar, the other artistes of this play are, Vijay Gokhale, Vighnesh Joshi, Yash Joshi and himself. Written by Madhusudan Kalelkar, this play will also be directed by Vijay Gokhale and the inaugural show will be staged in December 2016.

‘Vibhavantar’ adjudged best play in One act Play competition
The most prestigious Marathi One act play competition hosted by Astitva and Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natyaparishad for the late Shri M.B.Yande trophy, concluded recently. ‘Vibhavantar‘ presented by Mumbai Group Indradhanu was adjudged the best One Act play in the competition. The second prize went to Samarth Academy Pune’s ‘Second Hand‘, while the third prize was won by Mumbai’s ‘Maysabha‘.
The subject of this year’s competition, suggested by well known writer Meghana Pethe was, ‘Jab Jago Tab Savera’. The competition received good response from many collegians, besides passionate artistes both from experimental and commercial drama groups. The final round comprised of five shortlisted plays, which were staged at Yashvant Natyamandir, Mumbai. Judges for the final round were Sunil Shanbag, Ila Bhate & Jayesh Patil.
‘Maysabha‘, which received the special Jury award, bagged maximum awards in technical category. The results of the Final round in different categories were as follows:
Best Play : Vibavantar ( Mumbai)
Second prize: Secondhand ( Pune)
Sp. Jury Award : Mayasabha ( Mumbai)
Best Director : Sunil Harishchandra ( Vibhavantar, Mumbai )
Best Writer : Sunil Harishchandra ( Vibhavantar, Mumbai )
Best performance : First Prize Divided among eight artistes of ‘Vibhavantar‘ – Snehal Borkar, Atish More, Sanchita Gupte, Siddharth Aakhade, Gaurav Kalushte, Sanket Jadhav, Romareo Kardoza & Shivali Parab.
Second Prize ( Acting) : Devyani More ( Secondhand)
Third Prize ( Acting) : Bhushan Desai ( Mayasabha)
Best Production design : Swapnil Takle
Best Music: Ninad Mhashilkar
Last Date for entries for Science based One Act plays competition extended till 15th Sept.
Marathi Vigyan Parishad and Cultural Department, Maharashtra Government will be organising a state level One act play competition, based on science. The last date for giving the entries has been extended up to 15th September 2016 to accommodate more teams.
The competition is divided into two groups. The First group will be for students studying in 8th std and up to Graduation level, while the second group is open to all. The subject of the play will be based on the subject of science and about the inventions made by scientists. There will be three prizes to be given in each group. The first prize will be of Rs. 31,000/- followed by second and third prizes of Rs. 21,000/- and Rs. 11,000/- respectively. There will be separate prizes for Writer, director, best actor, best actress, music and decor/lighting. According to the organisers, in case there are no sufficient entries for the first round, there will be held at Zonal level.

मराठी विज्ञान परिषद व सांस्कृतिक कार्यसंचालनालय महाराष्ट्र शासन आयोजित राज्यस्तरीय विज्ञान एकांकिका स्पर्धेचे आयोजन करण्यात आले आहे. लोकसहभाग वाढावा हा त्यामागील उद्देश आहे. वेज्ञानिक आणि शोध या मध्यवर्ती संकल्पनेवर हि स्पर्धा घेण्यात येत आहे. वेज्ञानिक आणि शोध यात शास्त्रीय शोधाच्या जन्मकथावर आधारित एकांकिकेचा समावेश यात असावा . शात्रज्ञांना संशोधन करताना अनेक समस्यांना सामोरे जावे लागले अनेक प्रकारच्या विचारांची घालमेल व अथक प्रयत्न यांच्यावर आधारित एकांकिका असावी . हे शात्रज्ञांचे जीवनचरित्र नसावे.
