Deepak Dewoolkar - From cricket ground to acting field

If he had not turned an actor, he would have certainly played cricket for Indian team. But, an injury to his finger, while playing the pace attack of Former Cricketer Raju Kulkarni forced him to rest for a long period. Deepak Deulkar was a successful spinner, who played for Mumbai Under- 19 team. There were others like Sanjay Manjrekar and Praveen Amre around and Deepak still recalls all the old memories. Not many are aware of his cricket playing days. But, when someone talks about cricket, Deepak is more than happy to speak on this subject. Today, he does not regret his decision to shift to the entertainment industry. After all, he is a multi-talented person.

Deepak DeulkarToday, he is playing the main character of Mahadev Thakur, in popular ETV Marathi serial 'Lek Ladki Ya Gharchi'. This serial is running for the past three years, completing 1000 episodes. Incidentally, as a script writer his film 'Saad' has just been released. In fact, more than films, Deepak has been more popular as TV artiste. In most of the serials he performed in, completed 1000 episodes. 'Damini', 'Bandini', 'Krishna'( where he played Balarama), 'Sapane Sajan Ke', 'Ye Risha Kya...' besides 'Lek Ladaki Hya Gharachi', are the best examples of his popularity as a TV star.

Deepak has also been part of many Marathi films and had an opportunity to work with many veteran actresses like Jayashree Gadkar in 'Sasar Maher', with Nishigandha Wad in 'Navra Majhya Muthit Ga'. During the later film, Deepak had already married Nishigandha. His other films include Annasaheb Deolgaonkar's 'Sakharpuda', N S Vaidy's 'Majhe Swabhagya, Sanjiv Naik's 'Ghar Sansar'and 'Akhanda Saubhagyavati' with Ashok Saraf, Vikram Gokhale. For this film, he was a Writer, Director and Producer. "This film is still close to my heart. From the title it might sound a typical rural film, but it's a based on Freedom for a widow," says Deepak proudly. Since 1989, Deepak was associated with 90+ films and now moving towards century.

Speaking about a break taken by him in the year 2000, Deepak says that those days Nishigandha was very busy with her acting career and was doing well. I too found myself occupied with work. At that time my daughter Ishwari was very small and many a times we had to take her along with us on the sets. So, I decided to return my signing amount and took a break to give time for my family life.

While speaking to Marathi Movie world during promotion of his film 'Saad' in Pune, Deepak seemed very happy with the team of 'Saad'. He is the main behind making of 'Saad', as he took lot of efforts in developing the script of this film. "Mr. Hemant Dabhade had in fact asked me to direct this film, but I had no time. Even, I couldn't find time to play a small role in this film. So, I decided to help him in script development, suited to two newcomers in this film. Mr. Dabhade had assisted me in my previous projects like 'Choti Choti Baatein', Haar jeet'and 'Reshim gathi'. So, I was confident about his direction and today I am hopeful about this film's success' he concluded.
