'I am not like Abhilasha in real life' - Deepti Samel Ketkar
Deepti Samel is not a new name to Marathi entertainment. Ever since she was in 7th standard, Deepti was associated with acting. As a child artiste, she has performed in Kanchan Adhikari's productions. As a lead actress, she has performed with actors like Milind Gavali and Santosh Juvekar in films like 'Bhakti Heech Khari Shakti' and 'Chal Gammat Karu'. Deepti also performed with Subodh Bhave playing his associate in the big budget film 'Sanaee Choughade' On television. Deepti had made her entry with a small role in 'Awaghachi Sansar' but
due to the popularity of her role, it was extended for a longer period. We also saw her in 'Kunku'; but, she actually shot into fame as Abhilasha in the popular serial ‘Mala Sasu Havi’.
Deepti's acting talents could be clearly noticed, when Abhilasha's role was given prominence very recently. Not otherwise very talkative, as seen through her character; Abhilasha does believe in proper communication. Having married Romit only few years ago and now mother of a little 2 ½ year old daughter; she has realised the importance of family and the need for proper communication, when at home. Deepti is all praise for her husband and her mother in law, for the kind of encouragement and support she receives from them, to manage her busy schedule.
Marathi Movie World spoke to Deepti, to know more about her background and acting career. Excerpts from an interview:
Q: How is Deepti in real life ? Is she like Abhilasha ?
A: No ,I am not the type of Abhilasha, the character played by me in 'MSH'. But, I do believe in communication. My maximum communication is with my real mother-in-law at home. She being very supportive and friendly, it's a pleasure communicating with her. I have a good supportive husband too, who is in chemicals business. Besides managing my little daughter, I also do some cooking once during the day. So, unlike Abhilasha, I am a busy working woman.
Q: Tell us something about your background and your school- college days.
A: I studied from St.Thomas High School, Goregaon(E) and later did my graduation and Post graduation in arts from Nalanda Vishwa Vidyalay, with specialisation in Bharat Natyam. As a girl child, I was always encouraged by my parents to attempt whatever I wished for. I still remember, when I wished to drive a Scooty at the age of 13, my father allowed me to do so and even came to my rescue, when I needed his help. I still remember the gift of Sports cycle he gave me during my childhood. Those days, I was always inspired by females riding on cycles and two wheelers.
Q: Your education in Nalanda helped you to enter the acting field ?
Q:Then, how did you enter television serials ?
A: Not exactly. I was into acting, right from my school days. As a child I have performed in various ad films. Some of the popular ads I did were for Bournvita and Vadilal Ice Cream. Then I performed as a child artiste in Ms. Kanchan Adhikari’s projects. May be, the film offers I received opposite Milind Gavali and Santosh Juvekar, were because of my dance background.
A: Actually, I was selected to perform a small role in 'Awaghachi Sansar'. Initially, I was told that it was a brief appearance. But, soon I saw the expansion of that role running for a long period. Thereafter I took a break for my marriage and later for the birth of my child. I did perform in TV serial ‘Kunku’, but that role was not very prominent. However, my return through ‘Mala Sasu Havi’ gave me recognition as an actress.
Q: But, we have yet to see your dancing skills ?
A: Very soon you will see that in Zee Marathi's dance reality show 'Ekapeksha Ek Apsara Aali'.I am one of the competitors.
Q: Wishing you all the best.
A:Thanks a lot.
