Halycon Creations ‘Marmbandh’ is a sensitive story of Jaywant Shirodkar set in Goa during the Portuguese rule, when theatre movement was just starting but female parts were still played by men and Jaywant is such an excellent artiste who excels in female roles.
But, financial problems compel him to come to Mumbai, where he gets a job in a film processing lab. He leaves the job in a huff, after an argument with a senior. He returns back to Goa to join theatre, but his wife Jayanti is unhappy with Jaywant’s passion for theatre and there are constant fights between husband and wife.
During one such fight, Jayanti is accidentally killed and Jayant is sent to prison for his wife’s death. But Goa’s independence in 1961 leads to all prisoners getting amnesty and Jaywant returns to the theatre.
However, times have changed and female artistes are active and there is no scope for male performing female characters. Then begins the trials and tribulations of a talented artist, who wants to portray his art on stage. Will he succeed?
That’s the premise of this film, written and directed by Dinesh Bhosle, with music by Achyut Thakur and cinematography by Debu Deodhar. The film stars Girish Pardeshi,Nandu Madhav, Veena Jhamkar and others. This film is set for an early release.
