Siddharth Jadhav

Siddharth Jadhav climbing the ladder of success

At 28, he has achieved a great amount of success in Marathi films today. But, the success hasn’t gone to his head. He is holding his feet firmly on the ground. Siddhu, as he is popularly known in Marathi movie industry, has won many well wishers in this industry in a very short time. His polite nature speaks for himself. Siddharth Jadhav’s latest released film ‘Huppa Huiya!’ has now brought him the much awaited fame as a solo hero. It’s not that he had not done solo hero film before; but then the script of ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ wasn’t tailor made to suit his character. However, ‘Huppa Huiya!’ meets with all those requirements to make him swing , dance and perform action with the help of its fantasy filled script in that role of Hanmya. Happy days are here for Siddharth, whose next release is none other than his favourite director’s film ‘Lalbaug-Parel’.

Siddharth JadhavWatching Siddharth as a comedian in the past few films in the company of Bharat Jadhav, gave an indication that he would be typecast. But, that was not to happen; as many directors knew his potential as an actor. Mahesh Manjrekar is one such director, who has offered me roles which did not have any resemblance with the previous one. And, for ‘Huppa Huiya!’ writer Hemant and director Anil Surve thought that I perfectly fitted into that lead character. Indeed, I enjoyed every moment in this film.’ says Siddharth proudly. He was speaking to MMW , with his heart filled with happiness on the first day of release of ‘Huppa Huiya!’

Having been born and brought up in a middle class Maharashtrian family at Sewree, Mumbai, Siddharth did his schooling from Saraswati High School, Naigaon and later finished his graduation from Mumbai’s top class Ruparel College. It was here at this college, he developed interest in acting and performed in many one act plays. He first came into limelight through Devendra Pem’s play ‘Tumcha Mulga Karto kay?’ Since then, there has been no stopping for him. He was soon flooded with offers from films both in Hindi and Marathi and also from TV serials. He did play lead role in ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ but, for Siddharth every role whether small or big;  was important for him.

“I look at every role with the same sincerity and try to give my best, as after all, it is the director who has shown confidence in me, by offering that particular role to me.” says Siddharth proudly, while praising all those directors, who signed him for their films. Not inspired by any particular actor to name with, Siddharth says that he only decided to become a good artiste first and worked very hard in that direction, giving his full time to this profession. Watching him in the plays ‘Jago Mohan Pyare’, ‘Lochya Jhala Re’ and having won many awards in different categories, clearly indicates that he can do a variety of roles in years to come.

Today, Marathi films are more script based offering diversity of subjects and that make actors like Siddharth happy. But, the passionate actor doesn’t seem to be interested in production or direction at this stage. “I am too small to think that big, at this stage.” he says with a smile. After watching his memorable performance in ‘Huppa Huiya!’ we are all keen to watch him in his forthcoming projects like Mahesh Manjrekar’s ‘Lalbaug Parel’, Kedar Shinde’s ‘Iraada Pakka’ and another much awaited film ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’

Sonalee

Sonalee Kulkarni, Actress

With the super hit movies like Sonalee‘Shwaas’, ‘Pachadlela’and ‘Sarivar Sari’, Marathi film industry is at booming stage again. A sizable signing amount and a better marketing and distribution network are the major reasons for young talents to get attracted toward this industry. Sonalee Kulkarni – one of the most upcoming talents in Marathi Film Industry, who has received an award for best actress at ‘Zee Gaurav’ for her debut movie – ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ is the best example.

What is your reaction after Zee Gaurav Award?
Obviously, I’m thrilled after this award. I never thought that I’d get the award, especially when prominent actresses like Pratiksha Lonkar and Ashvini Bhave were also in the race. I was happy, as I was nominated for my debut movie. I went there just to enjoy the ceremony but when I heard my name, I couldn’t believe. It was really a big surprise to me. It looks like early success, but believe me, there is lot of hard work behind it. It was a tough decision for any next-door girl to frame her career in an uncertain field like this, without any godfather. But I trusted my abilities; worked hard and after struggle of almost 4-5 years, God has turned my fate into brighter side.
So, you have struggled a lot, to achieve this admiration….
Yes! I was involved in dancing since I was in class fifth. I got first opportunity of acting in class 9th for FTII short-film. But even after that I was confused whether I should choose acting as a career or not. But when I was in class 10th, I participated in a beauty contest- ‘May Queen’. Though I had not taken it seriously, I grabbed runner-up position with 5 subtitles. The victory boosted my confidence so much that I decided to edge my career in the same field. That’s the reason why I went on to choose mass communication after completing 12th from Ferguson College’s. Taking this decision was an easy thing, but further path was not easy at all. I neither have any ‘godfather’ in the industry, nor contacts. I gave auditions all over India initially and hardly got any success. I was so crazy at that time that I used to make 5-6 trips to Mumbai in a week even for small auditions. Meanwhile, I endorsed few brands like ‘Vipul Sarees’, ‘Idea Cellular’‘PNG’ and ‘Reliance’. I also performed a dance in a movie- ‘Gadhvache Lagna’. But ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ was my first full-fledged movie.

Sonali Kulkarni

How did you get that movie?
Actually, by luck! Ankush Chaudhari called me for an audition of ‘Sade Made Teen’. But that audition was cancelled because of some reason. When I was coming back to Pune, Ankush Chaudhari called me to tell that Kedar Shinde was in search of a new face for his upcoming movie. “If you want to meet him, I’ll talk to him.” he said. Obviously, I was interested and so I met Kedar Shinde. My audition for ‘Bakula’ was actually held in front of ‘RK Studio’ under streetlights. At that time only Kedar Shinde offered me role of ‘Bakula’.

Even in the early life of your career, you have worked with prominent names of Industry like Bharat Jadhav, Kedar Shinde . How was the experience?
Amazing! I have learned so many practical things with them. Bharat Jadhav and Siddharth Jadhav helped me a lot. When I was very nervous at first shot, Siddharth Jadhav made me feel nice by telling me jokes. Even Kedar Shinde never used to shout at me, even if I made any foolish mistake. After one week, I adjusted well and gave many ‘First take’ perfect shots. I even worked with legendary actor ‘Ashok Saraf’.  Let me tell you, all these people in Marathi Film Industry are very helpful and down to earth. It is extremely nice and learning experience to work with them.

Sonalee Kulkarni in ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ What are your future plans?
To complete my graduation! Because of heavy workload, I have been forced to bunk many lectures. Despite that, my teachers have supported me well, Completing graduation will be my priority. Beside that, I have also planned to complete my post graduation in Mass Communication, simultaneously with my career in acting. I know that people are expecting much more from me after ‘Zee Gaurav Award’ but let me assure them that I will fulfill all the expectations and responsibilities through best acting. I have already got two more movies and negotiations are going on with few producers. I hope, I will be able see my dreams come true and become the most successful actress

Movie Review by: Pradip Patil

Kedar Shinde and Shemaroo films continue their successful association with the latest movie ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’. To churn out 3 movies in the gap of 6 months, now that’s something interesting.

This time Kedar plays it safe by doing what he does best, That is directing a comdey. Yet there are few important things that show that he is indeed trying to do something new instead of sticking to the tried and tested path. So let’s have a look at those ‘different’ things.

First of all, This movie has Bharat Jadhav, but not as a hero. This time he is the bad guy.

Second and I think most important, it has Siddhart Jadhav in the role of protagonist, though he is not your typical hero material.

And last but not the least, this movie atleast deals with an issue which is much discussed these days, but let me tell you that’s not the main aim of this movie. Every new movie from Kedar raises the expectations high, so does his latest offering entertains? The answer is yes, but not as much as his earlier works.

The movie’s biggest drawback is it’s weak first half. The plot revolves around a newly wed couple Namdev (A forgetful simpleton), Bakula (Namya’s intelligent wife) and Ghotale (the wicked landlord). When Namya and Bakula come to Ghotale to take his blessing, Ghotale falls for Bakula and decides to win her at any cost. So he hatches a plan to kill namya. But namya survives the attack and returns home after few days. But its too late as the compensation money for Namya’s accidental death is about to be handed to bakula. So what games the couple play to make the most of the situation forms the rest of the story.

Unfortunately the first half drags on. The characters are effectively established but it could have been easliy achieved with less reels. The first half leaves viewers hoping for more action but nothing happens except few funny moments.

In the second half, Kedar has managed to salvage the movie and from there onwards it is total timepass. The second half is so well made that it actually makes you overlook the insipid first half. Full marks to the entire team for this. Ghaotale and Bakula’s efforts to outsmart each other keeps the audience entertained.

Devdatta Sabale’s music works pretty well. The movie has two lavani songs, both are picturised on gorgeous Resham Tipnis. The another duet song is really catchy and nicely picturised. I bet you will be humming it after the movie. Dialogs are funny and serve their purpose well.

Newcomer Sonali Kulkarni plays her part with confidence. Siddhart Jadhav is fun to watch and does justice to his role. Bharat Jadhav is excellent, Even though his character is picturised as funny for most of the part, he effectively portrays the mean and cunning shades of the character. I wonder why an actor like Vijay Chavan is wasted in such an insignificant role.

Bakula Namdev Ghotale has its own faults, but it does what it is supposed to do, that is to make you laugh.
