The 17th edition of the V.Shantaram Awards for the best in Indian cinema, were presented at a glittering function at a suburban five-star hotel recently. The event was also a part of the felicitation to actress Sandhya who was a part of many Shantaram classics like ‘Navrang’, ‘Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje’, ‘Jal Bin Machli Nritya Bin Machli’, ‘Pinjara’, etc .

On this occasion, Sandhyaji requested the cine lovers to bless her children .
A special dance medley of Sandhyaji’s classic dance numbers from ‘Navrang’ were performed by choreographer Pony Verma and group, much to the delight of audience.

Mr. Kiran Shantaram said that the V.Shantaram awards were special, as out of 1000 films made in India in 2009, only a select few were nominated by the jury members.

The awards presented were for- Best Film-Kanjeevaram(Malayalam –Director-Priyadarshan), Best Actor-Prakash Raj(Wanted Fame)-Malayalam ‘Kanjeevaram’ –Dir-Priyadarshan, Best FemaleActor-Rani Mukherjee –(Dil Bole Hadippa), Best Supporting Actor-Female- Renuka Shahane( Rita), Best Music -Preetam (Love Aaj Kal), Best Cinem atography –Theeru(Kanjivaram), Best Editing Aarti Bajaj( Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi), Best Sound Recording -Anuj Mathur(Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi), Special Award in Direction Nandita Das(Firaaq ).

Celebrities who were spotted at the event were- Jeetendra, Randhir Kapoor,Yash and Pami Chopra , Vikas Desai, Basu Chatterjee, Jayshree.T, Imtiaz Ali, Dinesh Vijan, Upendra Limaye, Jagmohan Mundhra, Pandit Jasraj, Durga Jasraj,Sulochana, Ashok and Nivedita Saraf etc. Actor-VJ- Gaurav Kapur hosted the show in his witty comic way, while Rahul Shantaram proposed vote of thanks.

‘Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar’ a multi starer marathi film produced under the banner of Rainbow productions & presented by Aviraj Folwers is all set for release all over Maharashtra on Christmas day in more than 100 theatres. Mr.Santosh Raut , who has put in his vast experience of more than 12 years, will be making his debut as a director through this film . This film is about a true story of a theft that took place in the famous Khandoba temple of Jejuri near Pune.

The film has Dialogues penned by Manish Kulkarni & Ramesh Chauhan, screenplay by Santosh Raut, lyrics by Jagdish Khebudkar and music score by Achyut Thakur .
Milind Gunaji plays the lead role of an inspector who cracks the theft case. The other star cast comprises of Shewta Shinde, Mohan Joshi, Suhas Bhalekar,Asha lata, Vijay Chauhan,Ashok Samarth, Suhas Palshikar, Nutan Jayant, Kuldeep Pawar, Ali khan, Ravi Patwardhan & Priti Joshi. Payal Desai is making a debut in this marathi film playing an item girl .Camera work by Shyam Chauhan , Creative Art direction by Baba Patil, Stunts by Ijazbhai & Sound recording by Vilas Raut are other credits

Tributes To Laxmikant Berde

Was Laxmikant Berde a real Vidushak of Marathi film and Theatre ? This question would obviously get 100% response with ‘Yes’, from our readers. Laxmikant served this entertainment world with a simple logic ‘Jeena Yahaan Marna Yahaan, Iske Siva Janaa Kahan’. The enthusiasm with which he performed on stage and in front of the camera clearly indicated that he was sent on this earth with a mission and that was to entertain the audience. And he did his job with perfection and complete devotion.

No one really expected that his term as an actor would come to an end so soon, when he finally said Good bye to all on that fateful day of 16th December 2004. On the coming 16th will be his 5th Death anniversary. MMW pays sincere tributes to Laxmikant Berde by remembering his contributions on this occasion. Third Eye Film Festival opens with ‘Harischandrachi Factory’

The 8th Third Eye Asian Film festival was inaugurated on Friday 4th December 2009 at 8 pm, when the Chief Guest Ms. Vijaya Mehta lighted the lamp and declared the festival open. In her short speech the former theatre personality and director narrated the excitement during their good old days, to watch foreign films at such festivals, whenever held in Mumbai. She was more keen on watching the opening film Harishchandrachi factory which was to be screened after the inaugural function.

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Kiran Shantaram, Chairman of the Asian film Festival, Mr. Sudhir Nandgaonkar, Creative Director of the Third Eye Asian Festival, Mr. K.J. Verma, Regional Manager of State Bank of India( The sponsors) and Mr. Paresh Mokashi, Director of the film ‘Harischandrachi Factory’. During the ceremony, the organizers welcomed all the Jury members coming from different countries like Poland, Iran, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Japan. Mr. Nandgaonkar briefed the delegates about various categories under which the films were classified. The Festival will also screen short films from different countries. The Third Eye festival will focus on Egypt, as there will be seven films from this country. Films will be screened at Plaza Cinema, Chavan Centre and Rangswar till 10th of December 2009. Music Launch of “Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar”

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray launched the Music of forthcoming marathi film “Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar” at a simple ceremony held at his residence in Dadar (Mumbai). Producer & Director Santosh Eknath Raut was present on the occasion along with Lyricist Jagdish Khebudkar , music composer Achut Thakur, Singer Milind Shinde with and other prominent cast of the film.

“Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar” is produced under the banner of Rainbow productions & Aviraj flowers Pvt Ltd. The film is complete & due for release by end of 2009. The idea of making this film was thought of some years ago, in Jejuri a small town near Pune, as there was a case of robbery of an Idol of deity of Maharashtrian people – Lord Khandoba, which sent shock waves all in the society, and especially among the devotees, who believed in the lord. According to the makers, the film pass a social message as well as entertain the people.

There are seven enchanting songs in the film, written by renowned lyricist Jagdish Khebudkar on the Enigmatic Music of Achut Thakur. Most of the popular singers like – Suresh Wadkar, Devki Pandit, Milind Shinde , Archana Gore, Vithal Umap , Swapnil Bandodekar and Vaishali Samant have lent her melodious voices to variety of songs. This collection is now available on T SERIES music CD’s at a cost of Rs 35/- all over Maharashtra.

Milind Gunaji plays lead role of an inspector called Vikram Bhosle in this film while Shweta Shinde plays his wife’s role. The other prominent star cast includes Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Suhas Palshikar, Kuldip Pawar, Vijay Chauhan,Nutan Jayant, Priti Joshi, Suhas Bhalekar, Ravi Patwardhan, Ali Khan, Ashok Samartha, Kiran Mane & Mohan Joshi. While, Vithal Umap, Kshitij Zarapkar, Jayram Kulkarni, Prashant Neman & Rajendra Jadhav are in guest appearance. Dialogues of the film are written by Manish Kulkarni & Ramesh Chavan and Screenplay by Santosh Raut.

‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ for Sulochana Didi

Veteran Marathi film actress Sulochana, popularly known as ‘Didi’ in the film world, has been conferred upon Maharashtra’s most prestigious award- ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ for the year 2009. The award comes at a time when the Government of Maharashtra is celebrating the Golden Jubilee year of the state’s formation.

The award comprises of Rs. 5 Lakh, besides the Appreciation certificate and a memento. It will be presented to the legendary on 26th January 2010. After hearing about the news, Didi thanked the people of Maharashtra for showering the love and affection on her all these years. She did not forget to mention about her mentor and Guru- Bhalji Pendharkar.

I would like to reach out to the masses – Kanchan Adhikari

Kanchan AdhikariWhether it is playing a host for a television programme or making a film as a director, Kanchan Adhikari has always kept one thing in mind and that is create awareness among people about any given social issue. Through her very first film ‘Manini’, as a director she went on to show how strong a woman was while overcoming her own problems. Later she shifted to comedy films. Her next two films ‘Doghaat Tisra Aata Sagla Visara’ and ‘Baap Re Baap Dokyala Taap’ with Makarand Anaspure in the lead, she tried to deliver a relevant message in the climax of the film. One may call it an entertainment taking the form of a sugar coated capsule containing a medicine for cure. This time she comes with another comedy film ‘Tukya Tukavila Nagya Nachvila’( T2 N2) making almost a hat-trick with Makarand Anaspure, who plays the lead role of a corrupt Police Hawaldar from a village.

Speaking on the occasion to announce the date of release of this new film, Ms. Kanchan Adhikari made very clear her intention of making such a film. ” I would like to reach out to the masses and for that I take support of comedy. We all read in the newspapers stories about the maximum corruption taking place in the Police department and in the Municipalities and its impact on the society. I thought of sending across the message in my own way through a comedy,” she said.

The rushes of the film along with two songs were shown to the Press, making it very clear that T2N2 was a total entertainment package. The film is targeted at all age groups with Makarand and his real life wife Shilpa playing husband and wife on screen and Pushkar and Manasi playing the young couple. Mohan Joshi gets a chance to play a hard core politician. Deepshika in guest appearance has performed a Lavani in this film, on a song rendered by Kavitha Krishnamurthy. The film’s music is provided by Nitin Hiravkar on the lyrics of Prakash Rane. The other credits of the film are : Choreography by Umesh Jadhav, Photography by Mahendra Rayan, Editing by Anand Diwan and Screenplay and dialogues by Arvind Jagtap. The film is being produced by Kanchan’s son Kailashnath Adhikari, who is just 18 and should be the youngest producer of films.

 

‘Ringa Ringa’ nearing completion

Ringa RingaNishad Audio Visual Pvt Ltd  are almost on the verge of completion of the shooting of their new film ‘Ringa Ringa’, which is an action packed thriller. After the success of ‘Chekmate and ‘Bokya Satbande, producer Kanchan Satpute has paid more attention on making this film more entertaining suited to today’s audience. She has made a right choice in Sanjay Jadhav, who will be directing this film based on his own script. Sanjay, a talented cinematographer, who has recently won V. Shantaram Award for best Cinematography for ‘Jogwa’.

‘Ringa Ringa’ has been shot on the backdrop of picturesque Goa, where the film’s script revolves around a character Rangrao, with criminal background who turns a politician. The film picturises the ups and downs in his journey to politics. With Ajinkya deo playing a totally different role in this film, the other popular star cast comprise of Sonali Kulkarni, Bharat Jadhav, Ankush Choudhary, Santosh Juvekar, Sanjay Mone, Udhay Sabnis, Jayant Savarkar, Kamlesh Sawant and Aditi Govitrikar. Art direction by Mahesh Salgaonkar, Sound by Mandar Kulkarni, Choreography by Umesh Jadhav & Rajesh Bidwe, Editing by Amit Pawar, Screenplay-dialogues by Amol Shetge, co-producers Shvababa Naik and Suresh Pai , Lyrics by Guru Thakur and music by Ajay-Atul are the other credits of the film. The film will be ready for release during next two months time.

‘Swatantryachi aishi taishi’ to release on 13th Nov.

Arun NalawdeFour aces productions ‘Swatantryachi aishi taishi’ Produced by Dr. Nandkumar Tasgavkar and Mrs.Vandana Tasgavkar and directed by Ramesh More(Olakh, Mahasatta fame) will release all over Maharashtra on Nov 13. The film is about the present generation’s apathy towards their parents and talks about three such old men, who are in intensive turmoil due to the insensitive attitude of their children towards them.

The film speaks about the mad rush for money by today’s generation in the globalization era and the decadence of Indian values and culture.
