Popular artistes Prasad Oak and Amruta Khanvilkar have been conferred with Fakt Marathi Cine sanman recently by the Fakta Marathi Entertainment Channel. Both these artistes were nominated along with other versatile artistes in the Best actor and Best actress category, but both of them have emerged winners, when their names were announced at a Special ceremony held at The Club, Andheri. Prasad received the honours for his performance in the film ‘Dharmaveer’, while Amruta received the same for her performance in the film ‘Chandramukhi’.

Film ‘Dharmaveer’ also won two more awards for Best film and best direction ( Praveen Tarde). Renowned Make Up man Vidyadhar Bhatte was felicitated on this occasion for his contribution in this field. Music director duo Ajay Atul, Veteran Actor Ashok Saraf was conferred with Special award and popular actress Sonalee Kulkarni was presented with Vicco Popular Face of the Year award. This being the first year of Fakta Sanmaan, there were entertaining presentations, including dance performances by Sonalee Kulkarni, Kishori Shahane and Varsha Usgaonkar. The telecast of this programme will take place on Fakta Marathi channel soon.

‘Shejari Shejari’ celebrating 30 years down memory lane

Amol productions’ ‘Shejari Shejari’ will be celebrating 30 years on 25th January 2021. Produced by Sachin and Sanjay Parekar and directed by Dilip Kolhatkar this film was released at main theatre Plaza. With Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde in the lead opposite Varsha Usgaonkar and Nishigandha Wad, this comedy film also comprised of a team renowned artistes like Shrikant Moghe, Sanjay Mone, Nayana Apte, Kishore Nandalskar, Kishore Pradhan, Arwind Sarfare, Ravindra Berde, Ram Kolhatkar, Ravi Patwardhan, Mukund Biwadkar, Maya Gurjar, Vinay Sawant and Jayant Savarkar.

The highlights of this film were its fine presentation, wonderful  performances best production values and good publicity. It may be recalled that Pradeep Deshpande had won the Best Sound Recordist award for this film in the Maharashtra State awards. Popular songs of that period rendered by Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadkar and others for this film, penned by Praveen Dawane on the music of Vishwas Patankar were the other highlights of this film. Today, after 30 years, the team is missing some of their team members, including the director. But, the memories of this film are still fresh in their memory.

‘Aboli’ completes 25 years of its release

Have you imagined Sayaji Shinde playing lead opposite Varsha Usgaonkar ? Well, this has happened 25 years ago on 3rd November 1995. And the film was Aboli’ directed by Amol Shetge. The film was produced by Amol Shetge and Nishikant Sadafule. Story , screenplay and dialogues were by Amol himself and Nishikant Sadafule had composed the music. Sayaji Shinde had played lead role in this film opposite Varsha Usgaonkar and in the photo you will notice both of them in a romantic mood.

Besides Sayaji and Varsha the film also had Renuka Shahane, Vijay Gokhale, Deepak Shirke, Shraddha and Guddi in lead roles. Other highlights of this film were that the informative booklet released during the film’s release was unique and popular singers of that period Asha Bhosale, Ravindra Sathe and Vinay Mandke had rendered their voices for the songs, which had become very popular. To celebrate 25 years of this film, it is expected that the channels showing Marathi films should have a show of this film.

“Acting is the art of creating an illusion” – Vikram Gokhale

As part of their Acting Workshop, Vikram Gokhale Acting Academy had recently organised a discussion cum debate at the Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Rangmanch Pune, where dignitaries like Vikram Gokhale, Varsha Usgaonkar, Girish Pardeshi, Meghrajraje Bhosale and Rajaram Kore of Zoom Films were present. The programme began with lighting of the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vikram Gokhale said, “Acting is the art of creating an illusion. Acting Performance of the actor should be such that it should look very realistic. While performing in plays like ‘Nakalat Saare Ghadale’ and ‘Barister’, it was a big challenge for me. Whether it is a play or a film, total involvement into the character is very important.” Then giving some tips to newcomers, he added, “While entering this filed, it is very necessary to possess self confidence. At the same time one should have ability to observe & learn small things in this process.”

Varsha Usgaonkar and Girish Pardeshi also offered guidance to the participants, through their respective speeches. The programme received a very good response from newcomers coming from Pune and surrounding areas. Milind Shintre anchored the programme.

Premiere show of ‘Piano For Sale’ held in presence of celebrities

Presented by Chaitanya Girish Akolkar, produced by Digital Detox and Written & Directed by Aashish Kulkarni, the premiere of new Marathi play ‘Piano For Sale’ starring Kishori Shahane Vij and Varsha Usgaonkar was held recently at Shivaji Mandir Dadar in presence of special invitees. Amongst the celebrities who attended the show were, Usha Mangeshkar,Meena Khadikar,Shivaji Satam, Kiran Shantaram, Anup Jalota,Deepak Balraj Vij, Gashmeer Mahajani & Anuradha Rajadhyaksha.

The play had raised a lot of curiosity, as two prominent veteran actresses of Marathi and Hindi cinema and television have come together for the first time in a Marathi play. And therefore the presence of celebrities was expected for the inaugural premiere show, besides good response from the audience. This play is based on original English play with the same title, written by Meher Pestonji. Ashish Kulkarni has taken the efforts to present this Marathi version.

Both Kishori Shahane Vij and Varsha Usgaonkar were popular actresses of Marathi film industry during late 80s and 90s. They have performed variety of roles in the lead opposite top actors of that period. Now, for the first time both of them will be seen together on Marathi stage in the play ‘Piano For Sale‘ The original English play written by Meher Pestonjee has been converted and directed in Marathi by Ashish Kulkarni.

Presented by Chaitanya Girish Akolkar and produced by Digital Detox this Marathi play will be staged all over Maharashtra and also abroad from 1st December 2018. With a new subject for Marathi stage and with the presence of these two actresses known for their own style of delivering dialogues, this play will be a real treat for Marathi stage lovers. And therefore, there are big expectations from these two actresses, as far as their performances are concerned.

Third Eye Asian Film Festival concludes with launch of two books

The Third Eye Asian Film Festival concluded recently in presence of dignitaries from Marathi film industry and other special invitees. Popular actress and Jt. Director of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal Ms. Varsha Usgaonkar expressed satisfaction about the conduct of this film festival, which has offered an opportunity to many film makers to display their finest creations. She appealed to all the talented film makers to consider as a platform to display their skills. Also present on the occasion were, Mr. Kiran Shantaram President of Third Eye Film Festival, Mmr. Sudhir Nandgaonkar Director of the festival, Mr. Sanjeev Palande, Director of P. L. Deshpande Academy.

During this concluding ceremony of the festival, two books were launched. First one was D. B. Samant’s book ‘Chanderi Smrutichitre’ and the second was an e –book edition of ‘Shantarama’ written by Late V.Shantaram and edited by Madhura Jasraj. Both these books have been published by Chitrapati V.Shantaram Pratishthan. This year the audience had an opportunity to witness wonderful short films section, in which Iran’s ‘Birthday Night’ won the best film award.

Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chittrapat Mahamandal had arranged a prayer meeting for Late legendary actress Uma Bhende at the Mini Auditorium of Ravindra Natya Mandir on Tuesday evening. Many veteran personalities from Marathi film industry were present on this occasion, including stalwarts like Ramesh Deo, Shubha Khote, Viju Khote, Jayashree T, Jayprakash Karnataki, Rajdutt, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ramesh Bhatkar, Varsha Usgaonkar , Meghraj Bhosale & Vijay Patkar. A video film covering the achievements of Uma Bhende was also shown on this occasion, after homage was paid to the late legendary actress.

92 year old grand old man of Film industry Ramesh Deo recalled his association with Uma Bhende during 60s, when he played her hero in films. He called her as the most beautiful and wonderful person. Sachin Pilgaonkar also spoke good about the actress and recalled his association with her during the shooting of Rajdutt directed hit Marathi film ‘Madhuchandra‘. Sachin had played a child star ion this film. “My mother who used to accompany me during the shooting of this film had become a very good friend of Umaji and she also helped her in her dress up, as her character demanded modern type of sarees. I used to respect her a lot, as I learned so many things from her. Since then, we became good family friends,” said Sachin. Further, Sachin also praised Prasad Bhende son of Prakash and Uma Bhende, who was present there, for his excellent work as cinematographer and wished him all the success.

Varsha Usgaonkar, Jayashree T, Shubha Khote, Viju Khote, Jayprakash Karnataki, Ramesh Bhatkar, Rajdutt also recalled some memorable moments in the company of Uma Bhende. They all called her a humble woman, who always welcomed them with a smiling face and never hurt anyone. Finally, Prakash Bhende turned very emotional while narrating how his arranged marriage with actress Uma turned into post love marriage.
