Man by nature is sensible. But, his  life is variable.  Therefore, he is required to live his life with  irrational certainty . He never knows, whatever is happening around with others, could happen with  him too . We have been hearing about the cases of accidents and  crimes happening in the neighbourhood. But, what if, the same case happens in your house with the person hired by you ?  Produced by  Rohit Jail & Prashant Umbarani and directed by Shankh  Rajadhyaksha, new Marathi film ‘702 Dixits’ presents one such story, based on a real incidence, which took place in Pune, few years ago. Though,  this film is not a ditto version of this real story, they have developed it, so as take the cinematic liberties.

In  the beginning of the film, we notice an unfortunate death of a house maid, working in the house of Dixits,  living on the 7^th floor of a housing society in Pune.  Actually, this maid has fallen from the 7^th floor of the balcony and dies on the spot. Not suspecting an accidental death, the witty Police officer (Jaywant Wadkar) , who comes to investigate the case, with a packet of biscuits in his hand, takes along with him Mr. Yash Dixit (Vijay Andalkar)for investigation, suspecting him as a murderer and keeps him in the police lock up. When Yash’s wife Kavya (Gauri Nigudkar) rushes home from office, she doesn’t know, how to react to this situation. So she seeks help from  Yash’s friend Riya Pandit( Pallavi Patil) and both together try their level best to get bail for Yash. As there is no lawyer coming forward to take this case, Riya herself, being a lawyer, decides to fight the case.

Riya plays the dual role of defence lawyer and also an investigation officer, as she does not get help from Senior Police officer investigating the case.   And, we notice, unfolding of mystery, after suspecting  even Yash, Riya and few other suspects.

Actually, the plot of this film is good. But, director Shankh Rajadhyaksha could have developed it further, to make it more interesting than what he has presented. There is no doubt that he has used his editing skills, to use some twists in the screenplay with the help of interesting flashbacks; but few of the happenings are not very convincing, like the Police officer asking the same question repeatedly  to Yash, to admit that he has committed a crime and the large number of witnesses produced in the court, to endorse the credibility  of Yash.

Nevertheless , the performances of the main three characters played by Gauri Nigudkar, Pallavi Patil and Vijay Andalkar are very convincing. Especially, Pallavi, who has performed in her second film,  after Classmates, looks very confident. The selection of supporting cast is perfect, as we notice some good looking youngsters, resembling IT people. Vikram Gokhale is just namesake in this film, playing the boss at Yash’s IT company; but Jaywant Wadkar is impressive in the role of senior police officer.

The film scores on account of  excellent  camera work and apt background music , most suited for this  mystery filled suspense thriller. Moreover, the selection of locations has given a realistic look, to this technically well presented film.  Shankh  Rajadhyaksha has made  a good attempt on his debut, as a director;  as,  it is not an easy job  to present a mystery filled film. But, he has managed well, to hold the suspense, till the climax.  Last,  but not the least, the film also delivers an important message,  of verifying  all the  details of house maid,  employed by people in their houses. You never know, what has been shown in the film, could happen with you.

Eleven years ago, as a teenager, she performed in national award winning Marathi film ‘Uttarayan’. Surprisingly, she played the young Neena Kulkarni’s role in this film; while Sharad Kelkar, who played young  Shivaji Satam in this film, was her hero in few scenes in the flashback of this film. Gauri later completed her masters’ degree in science and got busy with offers from Hindi television. Two years ago, she did a film ‘Sanshaykallol’ opposite today’s leading Marathi hero Ankush Choudhari and had made her intentions clear that she would do Marathi films, provided there was a good role.

In between Gauri got married; but had not said ‘no’ to acting. Last year, when director Shankh Rajadhyaksha had an offer to direct a suspense filled thriller, inspired by a true story, he only thought of Gauri, to play the lead role of Kavya Dixit . And, Gauri immediately said ‘yes’ to this offer, after hearing the story of this film. The film suitably titled ‘702 Dixits’ is now ready for release and Gauri is eagerly waiting for the film’s release, scheduled for 15^th January 2016.

The return of Gauri to Marathi cinema, is at the most appropriate time, when Marathi cinema is going for a  big change, with ‘out of the box’ scripts, attempted by new film makers. The maker of ‘702 Dixits’, Shankh Rajadhyaksha is from editing field and this being his debut film, as a director, he seems to have worked very hard, in presenting this interesting story, so as to keep the audience engaged to their seats for 2 hours. Even Gauri feels that the director has done an excellent job. If this film does good business, it will certainly benefit Gauri to find still better roles in Marathi. She already has a big fan following, as a TV actress on Hindi television.

Sometimes a sensational news happens next door. But, people don’t take such news seriously, unless such news affects their own family. ‘9 Star Entertainment’ through their forthcoming Marathi film ‘702 Dixits’ , have picked one such news story and developed it in a different way, to give a cinematic form, to make it a mystery filled thriller. Not many films are made on such subjects in Marathi and therefore, ‘702 Dixits’ has certainly raised the hopes of the regular Marathi viewers, towards this film. And, the manner in which the film has been presented, was evident from the impressive first look of the film, unveiled on Tuesday evening along with music release of this film.

Films of such type do not have many songs and hence going with the tradition of suspense films, producers Rohit Jail, Prashant Umbrani and director Shankh Rajadhyaksha have kept only three songs in this film, on the music of Shubhankar. But, background music plays important part in this film. According to director Shankh Rajadhyaksha, ( well known editor, having edited Mrunal Kulkarni’s film ‘Prem Mhanje Prem Asata’) he has given more importance to selection of artistes suited to the characters, as he wanted to present a realistic film. So, the film which is a thriller, filled with suspense, will unveil the mystery on 15th January 2016.

The film stars Gauri Nigudkar the Hindi TV actress, along with Pallavi Patil( ‘Classmates’ fame), Vijay Aandalkar( ‘Dhol Tashe’ fame), Shrirang Deshmukh, Ruchi Jail, Jaywant Wadkar & Vikram Gokhale. On this occasion, singer Nimisha Deb rendered few lines of the song from this film.

Today, new Marathi film makers have been attempting something different through presentation of new subjects. The year 2013 seemed to be the year of path breaking films, with the release of few such films during the first quarter. But, come April and the regular Marathi Movie audience have become target of the same old formula of comedy. The best example is latest released Marathi film ‘Sanshaykallol’. Posing it as a Super Comedy, the film after its release has turned out to be just another average comedy film.
‘Sanshaykallol’ has a very limited plot, where Jaisinha( Ankush Chaudhari) a fashion photographer and his wife Asha (Gauri Nigudkar) who runs a readymade clothes boutique; keep on doubting each other. They have installed hidden cameras in each other’s office . Asha keeps close watch on the activities of her husband, while Jaisinh does the same by monitoring his wife’s movements in her boutique.

All goes well, till a TV actress Sharavani( Mrunmayee Deshpande) a girl friend of Dhananjay ( Pushkar Shrotri) walks in Jaisinh’s studio and faints in his studio, after completing a tiring shoot. While Jaisinh takes her to nearby clinic, her locket( presented by Dhananjay) drops in his studio. And that leads to misunderstanding. Asha, who watches her husband lifting Shravani on closed circuit camera, becomes more furious; as she finds the locket near his studio. When Asha is seen handling the locket by Jaisinh on close circuit camera; he locates the same locket later in her office drawer. After noticing the photo of Dhananjay in it; he becomes more suspicious.

Dhananjay too becomes suspicious about Shravani, when he finds a medical prescription of a maternity Home, from her Purse. This drama drags on for almost little more than two hours; with addition of few more faces entering into the team like Asha’s brother Mithun( Omkar Govardhan) having an affair with Chaitra( Kshitee Jog), who manages Asha’s boutique. Vishakha( Sulekha Talwalkar) a friend of Asha, who is a lawyer. Karthiki( Pooja Sawant) a customer at Asha’s boutique and her boyfriend Vrushabh ( Abhijit Satam) also join them. Then you also have Siddharth ( Siddharth Chandekar) co star of Sharavani in TV serial, Bhujangrao an informer cum Auto Rickshawala ( Sanjay Khapre), an understanding mother of Dhananjay ( Reema Lagoo) and Djhananjay’s producer friend –Makarand( Vijay Patwardhan); which forms a very big team besides other supporting cast.

Frankly speaking, the screenplay of this film fails to hold on the audience to their seats, for want of new interesting happenings. The dialogues too are not very effective; to create spontaneous laughter. We have seen such plots in many past films. Much was expected from director Vishal Inamdar; but, he hasn’t offered anything different in the screenplay. What appeals to the audience is the neat and clean photography by Suresh Deshmane and also good background music by kaushal Inamdar. Among the artistes, the chemistry between Pushkar Shrotri and Mrunmayee Deshpande works well . Both of them find suitable roles to their share. Mrunmayee, in particular, finds a better scope to display her emotions, in as many as five important scenes, including one with Reema Lagoo. She is so natural, throughout the film.

In the role of Asha, Gauri Nigudkar does make comeback into Marathi; with her perfect timing for comedy; but, there isn’t much scope for her to display her acting skills. But, Sanyogita Bahve’s designer costumes are well suited to Gauri, Mrunmayee and Kshitee, throughout the film. Ankush Chaudhary has become a typecast in the role of Jaisinh, after watching his similar kind of roles in films like ‘Jhakaas’,’Bluffmaster’ and ‘No Entry’ in the recent past. However, Kshitee Jog and Sanjay Khapre, support well. Pooja Sawant has limited scope in her guest appearance; but she invites attention with her presence on screen through those four scenes. Other members of the big team of artistes offer good support to this conventional Marathi film, which follows the same old comedy track.
