Sonalee Kulkarni herself is spending time at home and feels that sometimes we should stay away from this day to day racing lifestyle, especially when people all over the world are facing crisis with the spread of coronavirus. At the same time she has earnestly appealed to all to spend this time with their family members happily and keep a very positive attitude. “Life is so precious and therefore it is time for self assessment and develop good habits to remain healthy and observe hygiene related rules strictly to take good care of environment . When the crisis ends, we will be able to witness a bright days ahead with more self disciplined people around.”

Watching Siddharth as a comedian in the past few films in the company of Bharat Jadhav, gave an indication that he would be typecast. But, that was not to happen; as many directors knew his potential as an actor. Mahesh Manjrekar is one such director, who has offered me roles which did not have any resemblance with the previous one. And, for ‘Huppa Huiya!’ writer Hemant and director Anil Surve thought that I perfectly fitted into that lead character. Indeed, I enjoyed every moment in this film.’ says Siddharth proudly. He was speaking to MMW , with his heart filled with happiness on the first day of release of ‘Huppa Huiya!’

Having been born and brought up in a middle class Maharashtrian family at Sewree, Mumbai, Siddharth did his schooling from Saraswati High School, Naigaon and later finished his graduation from Mumbai’s top class Ruparel College. It was here at this college, he developed interest in acting and performed in many one act plays. He first came into limelight through Devendra Pem’s play ‘Tumcha Mulga Karto kay?’ Since then, there has been no stopping for him. He was soon flooded with offers from films both in Hindi and Marathi and also from TV serials. He did play lead role in ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’ but, for Siddharth every role whether small or big;  was important for him.

“I look at every role with the same sincerity and try to give my best, as after all, it is the director who has shown confidence in me, by offering that particular role to me.” says Siddharth proudly, while praising all those directors, who signed him for their films. Not inspired by any particular actor to name with, Siddharth says that he only decided to become a good artiste first and worked very hard in that direction, giving his full time to this profession. Watching him in the plays ‘Jago Mohan Pyare’, ‘Lochya Jhala Re’ and having won many awards in different categories, clearly indicates that he can do a variety of roles in years to come.

Today, Marathi films are more script based offering diversity of subjects and that make actors like Siddharth happy. But, the passionate actor doesn’t seem to be interested in production or direction at this stage. “I am too small to think that big, at this stage.” he says with a smile. After watching his memorable performance in ‘Huppa Huiya!’ we are all keen to watch him in his forthcoming projects like Mahesh Manjrekar’s ‘Lalbaug Parel’, Kedar Shinde’s ‘Iraada Pakka’ and another much awaited film ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’

Q: Why did you opt for a career in acting ?

Q: What made you shift to direction ?
A: While in Ruparel College I used to write and direct one act plays. I am glad to share with you that the plays in which Siddharth Jadhav, Madhura Velankar, Meghana Erande and Priyadarshan Jadhav performed for the first time, were directed by me. Direction being the part of the same medium of acting, I got closely involved into it. Then, I decided to write and direct at least one film in a year and act in 2-3 films a year. Whenever I am into direction, then right from sound recording till the distribution, I am totally involved in that film.

Q: ‘Sade Made Teen’ was the first film directed by you along with Ankush, which turned out to be a hit. What do you have to say about that success?
A: In fact, it was because of the film ‘Shwaas’, Marathi films could take a fresh breath. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to find Zee talkies, who marketed this film well. Actually, I would attribute the success of this film to Zee talkies.

Q: While directing your first film, how was your experience with AshokMama ?
A: Nice! Very Nice! We all grew up watching his films and even today we are watching his films again and again. Any newcomer tries to learn something from a complete actor like him. When myself and Ankush approached him with our presentation, he hugged me after going through the same. After Sachin Pilgaonkar, it is for the first time, I have come across such a neat presentation, he said. This was a biggest compliment to us. We consider ourselves lucky for getting an opportunity to work with him. He was very co-operative during shoot. We had a great time in his company.

Q: In your latest released film, you have performed a multi-task, involving yourself in script and direction besides acting. Tell us something about this experience.
A: After watching my work in ‘Sade Made Teen’ many people suggested me to do a film for youngsters and also insisted on fresh faces. Now, when you make a film, a hero should look like a real hero and the heroine should be glamorous. So, I decided to make ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’. The film presents four pairs. Having been influenced with Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s light humor, I focused my attention to make it a family entertainer. I am sure, I did my job well.

Q: How do you direct an actor within you ?
A: Whenever you are directing besides acting, then it is necessary to look at yourself as a third person. When I face the camera, I am an actor but when I see its recording, then I have to judge the same from a director’s point of view. In short, I try to give my best in both the roles.

Q: Few years ago, we saw you in Bollywood films. How was your experience there. Can we see you again in Bollywood ?
A: Yes, I have done two Bollywood films in the past and learned one thing that a good script, good artistes and best director may not necessarily work towards the success of a film. Over there, you need a big banner and extensive marketing. The film I was part of, could not even find a theatre in Mumbai, in spite of having a good script. Therefore, I decided to act only in big banner films with a suitable role. After ‘Zenda’, I have received few offers. I am seriously thinking over them.

Sachit Patil’s ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’ is a Marathi version of Farhan Akhtar’s classic ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ based on friends, with the setting changed from Goa to Alibag. Ritwik (Sachit Patil) returns from US due to a job loss, in wake of recession in the IT sector. He reunites his old friends Vishnu (Siddharth Jadhav), Avya and Ravya together for a trip to Alibag, where he owns a bungalow which is on the verge of sell.
The film then takes a cue from Shakti Samanta classic ‘Kashmir Ki Kali’ plot, where the caretaker Appa (Bharat Jadhav) has turned this bungalow into a hotel for tourists.

Appa is very apologetic to Ritwik and Ritwik is kind enough to forgive him. However, Appa is disheartened to know that the bungalow is being sold to a businessman rich enough to turn into a swanky joint. There is a sub-plot of romance between the four friends who woo the bungalows inmates, Neha (Maanava Naik-Appa’s niece), a micro-biology student turned singer (Sonalee ), a fashion designer (Pooja Sawant), and an MBBS student (Kadambari Kadam).
Soon, you find them sing tuneful songs on the beautiful beaches and other scenic locations shot beautifully with dazzlingly lit frames by cinematographer Sanjay Jadhav.

There is a lot of comic ad-libbing between the friends and their girlfriends and they finally decide to get hitched. But the bungalow situation is finally solved on Appa’s plea to Ritwik, who decides to run the hotel himself with Vishnu and Appa as his partners and turns down the offer of the buyer.
The film is incredibly beautiful at first look at and all the actors especially the girls woo the camera in style with camera friendly looks. Siddharth Jadhav is the pick of the actors providing the much required laughter. Sachit Patil looks handsome and is as good a director besides being an actor. Among the girls Maanava Naik and Sonalee Kulkarni are good. Bharat Jadhav is reliable as ever. Shubhangi Gokhale, Jayraj Nayar ,lend good support. The debutant actors have tried hard to impress.

Late Amit Pawar deserves a special mention for his snip-snap editing. The lyrics by Guru Thakur have been composed well on the music of Hrishikesh Kamerkar, especially the ‘Holiday’ and ‘Bavraa’ songs. Rajesh Bidve’s choreography also deserves a special mention as he has utilized the natural beauty of Alibag and Revdanda very well.

In all, this ‘Autograph Films’ presentation produced by Sandeep Shinde and Maulik Bhat is certainly worth a dekko!
