The North American Marathi Film Association ( NAFA) was launched last year by renowned Marathi film producer Mr. Abhijit Gholap, who had produced films like ‘Deool’ and ‘Bharatiya’. Last year, under his leadership a film festival of Marathi films was held in San Jose, California . Now, this year Mr. Gholap has announced the 2^nd NAFA Marathi film festival at the same venue on 25^th, 26^th and  27^th July 2025, which will be held on the style of Hollywood awards.

Mr. Gholap has been making efforts to reach out Marathi films to the population of Marathi speaking people in North America and Canada. With his efforts every month atleast one Marathi film is released in this region. Mr. Gholap has a dream of creating a Marathi film industry in USA on the lines of Hollywood and accordingly, steps have already been taken with a team of 500 people coming forward to make this possible.

Recently, the trailer and music of this film was launched at Orchid Hotel, Mumbai in a grand way, in presence of media representatives and the unit members of the film.

Directed by Abhyang Kuvalekar this film revolves around three women who meet in Pink City, Jaipur and they become good friends. How they face the challenges in their life is what the story of this film is all about. Starring Ashwini Bhave, Mrinal Kulkarni and Shruti Marathe in lead roles along with Suhas Joshi, Shailesh Datar, Pradeep Velankar and Nikhil Arya .

Except for Ashwini Bhave, who could not come from USA for this function due to some personal commitments, all other artistes spoke about their experiences with the team of new film makers. With music by Sai-Piyush, this film on an interesting subject is all set for release on 22^nd November 2024.

Renowned Marathi writer Veena Deo passed away on 29th October 2024. She was 76. Veena Deo was daughter of late G. N. Dandekar well known Marathi writer from Maharashtra and mother of popular Marathi actress Mrinal Kulkarni.

Dr. Veena Deo had worked as Head of Marathi language department at Shahu Mandir Mahavidyalaya in Pune. She did teaching and research here for almost 32 years. She was awarded PhD for handling various topics of Marathi literature, besides writing books on these subjects.

She also wrote the biography (‘Aashaq Mast Fakir’) of her father G. N.  Dandekar, for which she received Lalit Sahitya Nirmiti award from State Government. She also received other awards including ‘Veena Morya Gosavi Lifetime award’ from Sairang Pratishthan. Through her own Mrunmayee Prakashan, she published rare literature of her father.

While paying tributes to her departed mother on social media, Mrinal Kulkarni said, “Actually there is no power to express anything right now. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who gave love to mom during her difficult times and rushed to her phone frequently. Me and Madhura because of you, I were able to accomplish a difficult job by keeping a smiling face. Mom loves flowers. Till the end she lived with a happy smile on her face just like the same flowers. Even though she is missed, she will always be with her as the big friends and the priceless artwork she wrote.”

Directed by Abhyang Kuvalekar this film is produced by Sonali Shivnikar, Sheetal Shanbhag, Abhyang Kuvalekar, Swapnil Bhamre and stars Shruti Marathe, Mrunal Kulkarni & Ashwini Bhave in lead roles. A video of these three actresses deciding their meeting on 22nd December has also been released on social media.

The story of this film revolves around these three friends who come from different backgrounds. According to the makers of this film, it is a different story though it is a women oriented film. Director Abhyang Kuvalekar says that it is an entertaining film and is related to the life of every woman. And, this will inspire others.

Recently, trailer of this film was released by the makers of this film, which shows the lead character of the film Diya played by Ritika Shrotri expressing her love stating that she wish to spend her entire life with a person on other side and concluding with ‘I love you’. Now, when there are two lead characters in the form of Rohit (Ajinkya Raut) and Pruthvi (Pruthvi Amber) in the film, it is not clear as to whom she has expressed her love?

According to the director, who is making his debut in Marathi with this film, he very much wanted to direct a Marathi film and with this film, his wish has been fulfilled. Mrinal Kulkarni has expressed her feelings on social media, on the occasion of her Bahu – Shivani Rangole Kulkarni’s birthday. It may be recalled that this year in the month of May Mrinal’s son actor- director Virajas married his actress girlfriend Shivani Rangole. Since then, Mother Mrinal Kulkarni has been sharing happy moments in their family on social media.

Popular Marathi television and film actress Mrinal Kulkarni has joined the Founders Board of Planet Marathi OTT and A Vistas Media Capital Company recently.  Mrinal having experience of her long career in acting and now as a director screenplay writer, will be of great help to Planet Marathi, to take Marathi films at the top level, with her active presence with them.

Speaking about her new association with Planet Marathi, Mrinal says, “This is a very happy moment for me . But, at the same time there will be a lot of responsibility. Today, the Web world is looking forward to place before the audience their best content fearlessly. Planet Marathi has already made a good beginning and therefore I have totake their Marathi flag higher across the globe by contributing from my side.” At the same time Mr. Akshay Bardapurkar has also .welcomed the entry of Mrinal Kulkarni. Last year we had heard about the announcement of new Marathi OTT platform with some big names getting associated with the founder Akshay Bardapurkar.
