Motion poster of forthcoming Marathi film ‘Jeta’ was unveiled recently in presence of actor and newly elected President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Film Corporation, and Ahmednagar District Shiv Sena Chief as well as Prabodhan Kurla and Pallavi Foundation founder Bhau Korgaonkar as chief guests. Produced by Sanjay Laxmanrao Yadav Sunder the banner of Sanju Entertainment , this film is directed by Yogesh Mahajan.

 Speaking on this occasion, director Yogesh Mahajan said, “Jeta’ should inspire everyone. An attempt has been made to show the reality while presenting the bitter truth of life. Through this film, a struggling life will be exposed to the world. A perfect piece of art made by adding melodious music and quality production values to this story will be presented to the fans through this film.”

 The story of ‘Jeta’ has been written by Sanjay Laxmanrao Yadav and the screenplay has been written by Sanjay Laxmanrao Yadav along with Yogesh Sabnis and Yogesh Mahajan. Dialogues are written by Sanjay Laxmanrao Yadav and Yogesh Sabnis. Actors like Nitish Chavan, Snehal Deshmukh, Sharad Goyekar, Aniket Kelkar, Pragya Sonawane-Davre have performed in this film.

Actor Sushant Shelar who for the past six years has been active with Marathi films, will now be returning to Marathi stage after a gap of six years. Sushant is playing lead role in satirical format of Acharya P.K.Atre’s old famous Marathi play ‘Ekach Pyala’. The play will be directed by Satish Pulekar and the inaugural show will be presented on 9th June 2017 at Pune’s Balgandhava Rangmandir.

After the inaugural show, the regular shows of ‘Ekach Pyala’ play will be performed in Mumbai and all over Maharashtra from 14th June onwards. At present the rehearsals of this play are in full progress. In this play, along with Sushant Shelar the artistes who will be performing in ‘Ekach Pyala’ play are, Pallavi Vaidya, Swapnil Rajshekhar, Amol Bavdekar, Vinayak Bhave, Mrunalini Javale & Hemant Bhalekar. The play is produced by Prafull More with music by Dnyaneshwar pendharkar and background music by Nandlal Rele.

Sushant himself is very happy about this offer and feels that to work with director Satish Pulekar is itself a great experience for him.

In our Marathi film industry, during 60s and 70s , we have seen many films on women oriented subjects, where male folks were shown dominating the women. Later, in 80s and 90s, we saw women themselves harassing other women and now we are watching through television serials, we see the Saas-Bahu dramas. Now, combining all these different ways of harassments, producer Rajendra Ramchandra Aatol  and director Subhash Ghorpade thought of presenting a family social drama through their latest released Marathi film ‘Garbh’ with a tagline  ‘Kunkawache Astitva’.

In this film, we witness two parallel stories of two couples running simultaneously in the screenplay. One is that of Sanjay Kulkarni( Hemant Thatte)  owner of Kulkarni Group of Companies & his wife Rekha Kulkarni ( Vibhuti Patil Thakur) and the other is that of youngsters Rahul Mhatre (Sushant Shelar) and Kavita (Siya Patil). When Rahul a collegian, finds kavita , his girlfriend form his college, being harassed by her Uncle ( Anant Jog) beyond limits, he takes a quick decision to marry her and brings his newly wed wife to his house, to give a big surprise to his parents. But,   realising the situation, the parents welcome their daughter in law, with a big heart. Rahul works hard and also finds a job of an accountant in Kulkarni Group of Company and that’s how the new link between Mhatre and Kulkarni family is established.

When Rahul meets with an accident, his pregnant wife seeks help from Rahul’s Boss- Sanjay Kulkarni, for huge money required for her husband’s operation. Rekha Kulkarni initially stops her husband from offering help. But, realising her own problem of not conceiving a child for 10 years, finds a good opportunity to force Kavita to enter into a contract against offering her help. Kavita sings on blank stamp paper, which results in a big drama taking place in the second half of this film. In the meanwhile, we notice some dramatic happenings in the story, to show how two different women face the challenges in their lives in different ways. So, it’s all about selfishness v/s sacrifice drama in the film. But, finally, it’s happy end for the audience.

Talking about the performances, both Sushant Shelar and Siya Patil have given satisfying performances. They find good support from Nishigandha Wad, Vandana Waknis,Yatin karyekar, Anant Jog,  Pallavi Vaidya and others.

All in all, ‘Garbh’ presents a typical story of exploitation of a woman, which has two different shades. Those who love to watch social family films on such serious subjects, may like this film; but for others looking for pure entertainment, may not enjoy it. The film does have 2-3 songs for music lovers, but, they disturb the continuity of the story. Arun Kulkarni’s dialogues are just fine, but the screenplay should have been made more gripping. Arun Fasalkar’s photography is good and so is the background music by Amar Desai.

So, among the youngsters of today’s Marathi entertainment industry, he has acquired considerable experience, for the past twenty years. He did his first commercial play in 1992, when he was in 7th standard. The very next year, he made his debut as a child artiste in a film and a TV serial ‘Mayur Pankh’. Till now, Sushant has won best supporting actor award for his film ‘Picnic’.

गेल्या वर्षी महराष्ट्र कलानिधीचे संस्थापक श्री. नितेश राणे आणि सचिव श्री. सुशांत शेलार यांनी एकत्र येत ‘मराठी बॉक्स क्रिकेट लीग’ ची स्थापना केली आणि त्याचं पहिलं पर्व यशस्वीकरून दाखवलं. ‘मराठी बॉक्स क्रिकेट लीग’ च्या दुसऱ्या पर्वाची घोषणा नुकतीच एका पत्रकार परिषदेत नितेश राणे, श्रेयस तळपदे , सुशांत शेलार ह्यांच्या उपस्थितीत करण्यात आली.

गेल्यावर्षी ८ गटांमध्ये हे सामने रंगले होते. यंदा ‘धडाकेबाज नवी मुंबई’ व ‘अजिंक्यतारा सातारा’ अशा दोन नव्या संघाच्या सहभागाची घोषणा करण्यात आली. ह्या प्रसंगी अभिनेता श्रेयस तळपदे यांनी दोन नव्या संघाच्या शिलेदारांचे स्वागत करत दुसरं पर्व आपणही एन्जॉय करणार असल्याचं सांगितलं.

Every parting indicates a big loss; but, every reunion is a reminiscence. Based on this philosophy is ‘Classmates’, the latest offering from Aditya Sarpotdar. No matter, this film is an authorised remake of a South film, with the same name, Aditya has used his past seven years experience, to skilfully captain his team of talented performers. Set on the backdrop of a college life during 90s, the film begins with a scene 20 years later, when the classmates of 1995 batch reunite for a purpose, in their college. So, we witness the seven batch mates comprising of Satya (Ankush Chaudhari), Appu(Sai Tamhankar), Aditi (Sonalee Kulkarni), Rohit Bhosale, now a MLA (Sachit Patil), Pratap, now a Police Inspector( Sushant Shelar), Amit(Suyash Tilak), now husband of Appu and Heena ( Pallavi Patil), a Muslim woman and close friend of Aditi; attending the opening ceremony of the Music section in memory of their departed friend.

They are all welcomed by the lady principal (Kishori Shahane Viz), mother of late Ani (Siddharth Chandekar). As they are about to meet late in the evening, after the function, an unfortunate accident takes place in respect of one of their classmates. This being a biggest twist in the story, the film progresses with the investigation of the accident and at the same time, taking the viewers into flashback, to show the happenings twenty years ago, while they were in the college. So, we witness the acts of ragging, which prevailed those days, the rivalry between two groups, with the entry of politically backed youth wings, dance n music and of course the love affairs. In short, it is all in one contribution of action, saga, friendship, music and revenge.
Best thing about the film, is its well written screenplay by Sameer Vidwans and Kshitij Patwardhan and suitable dialogues by Kshitij, to meet the requirement of the realistic college lifestyle, during that period. But, above all the director Aditya Sarpotdar shows his presence through many important scenes. Watch the scene, where ace swimmer Sachit Patil folding his call letter from foreign university for admission, to support one of the tilting legs of the side table in his house.
This clearly displayed the gravity of the situation, where his father who is in deep trouble in Politics, requiring the support of his son and the son offering the same, through this act. Very cleverly, he has managed to unfold the mystery, in the screenplay. Though he gave a Marathi feel to this film, the two songs have a south Indian flavour. Even otherwise, barring two songs, the music is not very impressive. Perhaps, too many cooks couldn’t match well, with each other. But, the background score is simply fabulous. Good support comes from impressive camera work and sound design.
In the acting department, three actors have shown maturity in their acting, while portraying their respective characters. They are Ankush Choudhary , Sachit Patil and Siddharth Chandekar. All three of them stole the show, displaying diversity . The director has exploited their full potential. Among the females, Sonalee Kukarni has also shown lot of improvisation, in the role of Aditi. Sai Tamhankar suits well in the role of possessive Appu, but her performance is more dependent on the dialogues offered to her. Sushant Shelar and SuyashTilak are convincing, but Pallavi has been wasted in the role of Heena. Not much scope was given to this promising new find actress, who was picked up from the talent hunt programme of 9X Jhakas. Veterans like Kishori Shanane, Ramesh Deo and Sanajy Mone offer good support. But, the ultimate winner is Aditya Sarpotdar. He really stands tall, for his effective presentation style, in this story based and suspense filled film.

The issue of Female feticide has been discussed in few Marathi films in the recent past. The most recent was through the film ‘Mokala Shwaas’. But, now late Rajiv Patil has presented the same issue in his own way, to send across a strong message to the society. It is very unfortunate that the talented film maker, who gave some sensible films like ‘Sanai Choughade’, ‘Jogwa’ and ‘Pangira'; passed away little before the release of this last offering in the form of ‘Vanshavel’.

The film revolves around a powerful person from a village Mr. Dadasaheb Deshmukh ( Kishore kadam) who is very dominant . His word is always final. Dadasaheb runs his own hospital, besides involving himself with other social activities. His elder son Nilesh ( Sushant Shelar) who is a doctor, manages the hospital and is married to Priyanka-a housewife( Manisha kelkar).His second son Anil ( Shantanu Gangane) who is into farming business, is newly married to a Gynaecologist Sayali ( Namrata Gaikwad). Dadasaheb, being male dominant, expects to have a grandson in the family, as early as possible .

The problem begins when his first daughter in law- Priyanka, refuses to abort her child; when she comes to know that she is going to deliver girl child. The second daughter in law – Sayali also joins the family hospital to take up some responsibilities; but, that only brings trouble for Dadasaheb and his elder son Dr.Nilesh, who is into unlawful activity. The family faces more problems, after Priyanka leaves the house, leaving Nilesh to repent on some of his past acts. With the arrival of new Police Inspector ( Ankush Chaudhary) in his area, invites more trouble for Dadasaheb.
In spite of all these problems, Dadadsaheb tries to manage everything. But, time comes, when his entire family desert him , including his wife Savitri ( Vidya karanjikar),leaving him in the company of his most trusted attendant- Maauli. The director gives few twists to the screenplay, only to teach a lesson to Dadasaheb, who finally reunites with his family, with a changed heart.

As a director, late Rajiv Patil has shown his strength in presenting the subject very effectively, using the hospital as backdrop of the script. Using the two doctors as important characters from the same family, he has clearly shown the reason with difference of opinion. Very cleverly he has shown, how a dominant head of the family becomes helpless, when all the three women from his own family dare to oppose his ideology.

In the role of Dadasaheb, Kishore kadam stands tall among all the characters. He plays a prominent role in this film, where he has plenty of scope to display his acting skills. And, he has done a wonderful job. The director has exploited his full potential, looking at his ability. In the role of Dr.Nilesh, Sushant Shelar plays his part very well, clearly displaying his diplomacy while following the footsteps of his father. He has also been able to show the quick change through his emotions, after his wife leaves him. In the role of Anil, Shantanu Gangne, a stage and TV actor, finds a better scope in this film. And, he does make his presence felt.

Namrata Gaikwad does get few opportunities to react spontaneously at few emotion filled situations. She too has played her part well, as a responsible gynecologist. Manish Kelkar plays an important character in this film; but she too has limited scope for acting. She, however, finds a song to her share. Vidya karanjikar finds one good scene to counter her dominant husband; but in the role of Police Inspector Ankush Choudhary is impressive, as he does everything in his own style.

The film has two songs, which have been used at right places. Amit Raj’s music is just fine; but, the background music and sound effects have been used very well at right places, to create the desired impact. Amalendu Chaudhary has ample scope to experiment with his camera; be it outdoor song sequence or indoor horror filled scenes, using minimum lights. Produced by Sunil Mankar and directed by Rajiv Patil, ‘Vanshavel’ is certainly a sensible film, delivering a timely social message.
