We have seen many versions of ‘Phulrani’ on Marathi stage over the years, since the release of Musical English film ‘My Fair Lady’ based on George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play ‘Pygmalion’. Now, Fincraft Media and Amruta Films will present a Marathi film ‘Phulrani –  Avismaraniya Prem Kahani’ which is directed by Vishwas Joshi. Written by Vishwas Joshi and Guru Thakur this film is produced by Jai Joshi, Vishwas Joshi and Shri A Rao.

This film will be released on auspicious Gudi Padwa day, i.e. on 22^nd March 2023 . Recently, the first poster of this film was released with a modern day Phulrani in a back pose holding mobile phone in her hand. So, this has raised a lot of curiosity among the Marathi film lovers, as to who will be playing this title role? However, one thing is clear that the equally important role of Vikram Rajadhyaksha will be played by Subodh Bhave. Lyrics of this musical film are by Balkavi and Guru Thakur, while music will be provided by Nilesh Moharir. Cinematography is by Kedar Gaikwad. Art is by Santosh Phutane. Viacom 18 will distribute this film.

Late P.L Deshpande’s famous play ‘Ti Phulrani’ was the most popular play in Marathi, when it was launched. Since then, many renowned actresses like  Bhakti Barve, Priya Tendulkar, Sukanya Kulkarni & Amruta Subhash have played the lead character of Phulrani in this play.  Now, the same play was been revived last year, with a new look by writer- director Rajesh Deshpande , who presented  popular actress Hemangi Kavi in the lead role. Along with her , in the role of Professor is played by  Dr. Girish Oak. Popular Marathi play ‘Tee Phulrani‘ was written by Well Known playwright P.L. Deshpande. This play was based on G.B. Shaw’s famous English play Pygmalion. Now, director Rajesh Deshpande has revived this play with his new team of artistes comprising of Hemangi Kavi in title role along with Dr.Girish Oak, Vijay Patwardhan & Sunil Jadhav . Though some of critics felt that the flavour of original play was missing; the new play has completed 50 shows successfully.

Produced by Ashtagandha Entertainment & Edonis Multimedia & Enterprises, this play performed its 50^th show in Mumbai, after paying tributes to all those who were behind staging this play in the past. And, the audience responded well , appreciating the efforts of this new team. It may be recalled that all old Marathi plays which have been revived in the recent past, have received good response. And ‘Tee Phulrani‘ is the latest addition to this list.

Known for her roles in Marathi films ‘Gadhvacha Lagna‘ and recently released film ‘Citizen‘, dashing Marathi actress has been selected to play the central role in the cinematic version of Late Pu.La.Deshpande’s popular Marathi play ‘Tee Phulrani‘. Announcement of the name of Rajashree Landge was a big surprise, as there was strong rumour that Aditi Sarangdhar would play this role. But, Rajashree’s selection has now been confirmed. Her co star in this film in the role of Professor will be Subodh Bhave.

‘Tee Phulrani‘ will be directed by experienced film director Amol Shetge. Recently, a new trend has set in to convert some of the popular Marathi plays into films and the best examples were films like ‘Katyar kaljaat Ghusli‘ and ‘Natsamrat‘. Now, it remains to be seen, how Amol Shetge would succeed in presenting this cinematic version. Luckily, he has a talented actor Subodh Bhave with him; but, all eyes will be on Rajshree Landge .

As Maharashtra will salute their beloved personality late P. L. Deshpande on his death anniversary on 12th June, Zee Marathi will pay tributes to the popular Marathi writer and humorist, by showing his play ‘Tee Phulrani’ on Sunday 15th June at 1 pm, in their programme ‘Nakshatra’ on their popular channel.

Based on George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Pygmalion’ , this play written by P. L. Deshpande had become very popular during 70s, when Bhakti Barve had performed the title role opposite Satish Dubhashi. Later, when this play was revived in the recent past,  Avinash Narkar and Amrita Subhash played the lead roles. The video version of this play will be telecast to coincide with the death anniversary, on television. And, it will be a real treat to the drama loving audience, on the weekend.
