Music of forthcoming Marathi film ‘College Journey’  was launched in a big way by special guests popular actor Vijay Kadam and renowned director Deepak Kadam in presence of dignitaries like Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal President Meghraj Bhosale, Vijay Khochikar, Ramesh Salgaonkar, Avinash Tupe, Dr. Rajendra Padole and artistes of the film.

Produced by Vishal ( Appa) Kankote and directed by Abhijit Sathe ‘Ashi Hi Aamchi College Journey’ is all set to release on 2nd February 2018. While the dignitaries wished the makers of this film a grand success, the makers assured that their film take the Marathi audience down memory lane to recall their memories during college days. So, obviously it will also be a treat to present college students.

Since it is the film based on college life, music will play an important role in this film. The film has four songs of different genres composed by Sai Piyush. The songs have been rendered by Avadhoot Gupte, Rohit Raut & Malvika Dixit . The film stars Supriya Pathare, Harshad Waghmare, Mohini Avsare, Sharadbhau Jori, Pradeep Bansode, Satisg Bansode, Shubham Bansode, Somnath Borgave, Mayuri Bhalerao, Supriya Barkade,Aadesh Chandode & Rajlaxmi Baswanti.

50 years ago Popular Drama producer and film maker late Dada Kondke staged a play ‘Vichha Majhi Puri Kara’ which was written by Vasant Sabnis. This play had become very popular all over Maharashtra, as it was filled with lots of humour arising out of the changing political situation in the state. After Dada Kondke, actor Vijay Kadam has been staging this play since 1986 and till now he has staged 750 shows. Along with Vijay Kadam, the other artistes associated with this play are, Priyanka Shetty, Mangesh Hatle, Chetan Mhaske, Tushar Khedekar and Sanjay Parab.

Now, this popular play will be stated during the inauguration of the Baba Vardam Smruti Natyamahotsav  in Kudal , which will be staged at Baba Vardam Rangmanch ( Sanskrutik Bhavan) on 7^th January 2018. This drama festival will be staged between 7^th and 13^th January 2018 . Speaking about this honour for his play, Mr. Vijay Kadam said that it was a happy moment for his group and expressed his confidence that people from Kudal would welcome their play with overwhelming response.

After a break of two weeks, now a new Marathi film is being released all over Maharashtra on 15^th December 2017. Produced by Madhukar Tayade, Vaishal Vahurwagh, Amol Vasu and directed by Rajesh Jadhav ‘Chalu Dya Tumcha‘ will be offering social message through entertainment. The film shows how with the spread of Globalisation in rural areas, how a common man is forgetting his basic needs and how some selfish people with the greed of earning money are cheating others. The film’s story presents the fight against injustice to inspire one and all.

According to the makers of ‘Chalu Dya Tumcha‘ film, they have paid more attention on selection of artistes to suit all the characters and all of them have given full justice to their selection. The film stars Milind Gunaji, Vijay Kadam, Sandeep Phatak, Nisha Parulekar, Megha Ghadge, Ajay Jadhav, Umesh Mitkari, Vaishali Chandorkar, Sudhir Sinha, Dipjyoti Naik, Swapnil Borkar, & Kamala Adib. Mr. Vijay Patkar, Jairaj Nair, Rahul Tayade & Mira Joshi will be seen in guest appearance. Director Rajesh Jadhav has himself written the story and screenplay of ‘Chalu Dya Tumcha‘ film, while the dialogues are by Sambhaji Sawant. Music by Madhu Bosale, Anurag – Chinmay and Cinepatography by Raja Phadtare are the other credits.

Actor Vijay Patkar has been truthfully entertaining the Marathi and Hindi film lovers for more than 25 years, through whatever little he had to his share in the form of character roles, especially the comedy ones. But, no one really tapped his full potential; till he himself decided to test his ability, turning a producer and director through his latest film ‘Lau Ka Lath’. If you are really aware of what the audience expect and if you sincerely work to offer wholesome entertainment packed with action, people would certainly approve it. Recent success of Bollywood film ‘Dabhang’ was the best example.

Now, inspired by late Dada Kondke and observing all success formulas of past super hit Marathi films; particularly those of dada Kondke and Mahesh Kothare; actor turned film maker Vijay Patkar found the script of Rajesh Bamugade, most appropriate to entertain today’s Marathi audience. ‘Lau Ka Lath’ is based on this traditional marathi formula film, with a commercial touch. Taking advantage of latest technology like VFX and other special effects, he presents something on the lines of a roller coaster ride for Marathi audience.

Set on the backdrop of a progressive village, we find Namdeo alias Namya (Vijay Patkar), a simpleton ladies tailor; who is also well versed in healing those suffering from sprains and aches, with his Kick therapy. But, he does not charge for this treatment and considers it, as a social service. Surekha (Hemalata Bane)- a Lavani performer, who suffers an injury while dancing, is treated by Namya. She falls in love with him. But Surekha’s father puts three conditions in front of Namya to marry his daughter. The first one is to challenge a wrestler from a neighboring village, second one is to get rid of his conventional chappals and last and most difficult one is to earn Rs. Three lakhs; so that the father could find replacement for Surekha, to perform at the shows. Namya manages the first one, by curing the wrestler from his back sprain and in return asking him to lose; but he finds it difficult to fulfill the other two conditions.

Destiny comes to the rescue of Namya and it’s ‘all is well’ at the end. But, ‘Lau Ka Lath’ being a commercial film, you find the screenplay of the film stuffed with lots of humour filled scenes, involving characters like the frustrated Doctor from the village (Kamlakar Satpute), the demanding father of Surekha and a Shahir (Poet) played by Jaywant Wad, and the two rivals – Sarpanch (Vijay Kadam) and Village Patil (Jairaj Nair), who compete with each other to prove their supremacy. Then, there is also a Police Officer( Pradeep Patwardhan) with his two assistants, a DSP (Rajan Tamhane), a Lady fortune teller (Kishori Ambiye) and dozens of character artistes including former Marathi actress Archana Patkar, who plays the wife of Sarpanch.

Performances from all the artistes are wonderful. Vijay Patkar rocks in the role of Namya; but he has received equally good support from his leading lady Hemalata Bane, who has till now played small roles in films. She has proved that her choice for this role wasn’t wrong. In the supporting roles, Jaywant Wad, Vijay kadam, Jairaj Nair, Pradeep Patwardhan, Rajan Tamhane, Jayant Savarkar, Kishori Ambiye, Archana Patkar and others have displayed an excellent team work.

You may call ‘Lau Ka Laath’ a Musical comedy with humour filled action; as the film maker has also paid attention to music, besides managing the comedy scenes with care. The two songs, ‘Morya..’ and ‘Mala Ek chance hava ..’ are picturised well, with good music by Avinash Vishwajeet. At no point you feel bored. Such is the impact created through the screenplay and apt dialogues. Though, some of the dialogues carry double meaning, no vulgarity is noticed. The climax of this film goes almost on the lines of Priyadarshan type of films; but it is limited, to conclude with a happy note. The suspense behind the character of ‘Lakhu Lungi’- a dacoit behind stealing antique pieces, has been very cleverly revealed, at the end. ‘Lau Ka Hath’ is a time pass film for all age groups. As a film maker, Vijay Patkar has succeeded in offering his recipe, filled with wholesome entertainment.

At a time when Marathi film industry is prospering with quality films and good business in theatres, ‘Bharatmata’ the oldest theatre in Mumbai is facing the crisis. The theatre owners have been served notice by NTC after expiry of the lease. Though the Chief Minister of Maharashtra has assured all necessary help to save this theatre and marathi cinema and if possible also take over the same. However, All India Marathi film Mahamandal have in their plea suggested that the present theatre owners may only be allowed to manage this theatre, with Maharashtra government seeking the support of Central government to request NTC for permitting the theatre to remain there.

Actually, the protest was organized by all Producers/directors of Marathi cinema with the support of political parties; but very few celebrities like Smita Talwalkar, Suhas Bhalekar, Sandeep Kulkarni, Vijay Kadam from Marathi cinema turned up. Labour Union leader Datta Iswalkar and MNS leader Bala Nadgaonkar were the only leaders physically present to support for the cause. This only indicated that Marathi film industry was not united to fight their own battle.

‘Bharatmata’ which is housed in the populated middle class and lower middle class township Lalbaug/ Parel, is the only entertainment source for marathi cinema lovers. Even if, there’s any such proposal like multiplex coming at this place, the local residents just can’t afford to watch cinema there. Will the Government of Maharashtra preserve this oldest cinema theatre and give justice to the Marathi cinema lovers ? Can we see a strong support coming from marathi film lovers to save ‘Bharatmata’?
