Films and serials can play a role of a Good teacher

A bud blossoms into a flower and when its petals spread out, the fragrance mesmerizes one and all. Similarly, a student who grows, matures and finally turns into a fine human being, after coming in contact with a good teacher. That good teacher could be anyone. Either he or she is from the school or his parents/ grand parents or a coach in sports. Can our feature films or the television channels be a good teachers. It is a debatable issue.

First of all, let us try to find out how many films have delivered to be a recognized as good teachers. ‘Shyamchi Aai’ was one such film that really passed on a message like a good teacher. It was also the first Marathi film, which went for the Oscars. Many sensible Marathi films of the past made by V. Shantaram and Bhalji Pendharkar played the role of good teachers and then Dr. Jabbar Patel’s ‘Saamana’ also showed the role played by a common man to fight injustice in the society.

Any film, that inspires the youngsters to do what is right in this society can be called as successful teachers, as the message is passed on to the masses in the form of entertainment. But, are our today’s film makers working in that direction? On the occasion of Teacher’s day, which is being observed all over India, MMW appeals to all film makers and TV serial producers to act as teachers while passing a social message through their films/ serials. At least, let us not forget the morals.
