Kishor Kadam

Kishor Kadam

Biography / Profile:

Not long ago he was known as a poet and with the name of ‘Saumitra’ he released his collections which were well accepted. ‘Garvaa’ was the most popular one. His lyrics have also been used for the title songs of some of the popular Marathi TV serials . But, Kishore Kadam always wanted to be an actor. Born and brought up in Mumbai and having done his graduation here, his parents are originally from Nagar which is his native place.

Known for his portrayal of shrewd Businessman cum Politician in serials like ‘Asambhav‘ and ‘Kulavadhu‘, Kishore was recently seen in a different role of an eunuch in the film ‘Jogwa‘. But, his selection in the lead role of a Bus conductor in the just released film ‘Ek Cup Chya‘ reminds us of another veteran stage and film artiste Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who also made his entry into films with a bang via stage. There is no similarity otherwise in both, as Kishore has his own style. His body language and dialogue delivery makes all the difference.

Ashok Patki , Music Director

Ashok Patki Music Director

Biography / Profile:

He made his entry into music world when there were stalwarts like Vasant Desai and Sudhir Phadke in the field. But, a determined Ashok Patki with the blessings of his Guru Jitendra Abhisheki entered the Marathi entertainment industry by composing music for children’s stage plays. Till that time he used to accompany his sister Meena Patki( Kakodkar) as her body guard for all her programmes. Meena was the only singer in their family. His father worked in a Mill and therefore being in a middle class family, he studied in a municipal school.

Since childhood, he was very fond of two musical instruments – Tabla and Harmonium; and mastered the art of playing the same at home. He was very much attracted to good musical rhymes and often composed music for them in his own style. He often bunked his classes in school, to attend music recordings of well known singers and music directors. After completing his school studies, he could not complete his college education; instead he focused on music facing opposition from family.

After a long struggle, he had an opportunity to compose music for Suman Kalyanpur’s album and later accompanied her as a composer for her shows abroad. There was no stopping for Ashok Patki since then. From 1969 till date. i.e. for forty years non stop he has been composing music for Jingles, stage plays, films and TV serials. Ashok Patki has to his credit 500 devotional songs, 250 music/ background score for stage plays, music for 50+ films, title song score for more than 250 serials and a record music for 5000 + jingles.

Like many other music directors, he too struggled a lot till the age of 32, but finally made his mark into this field. He first assisted Jitendra Abhisheki for background stage music and Robin Banerjee for film music and later worked independently. During his career, he had competition from music directors like Yashwant Deo( for his classical touch), Anil Mohile( known for Folk music) and Ram Laxman( who then composed for Dada Kondke films). But, with a lot of confidence in self, he made his own identity offering his variety. Even today, he is in great demand, with most of the Marathi serials having his title song.

There are still about 150 serials which are in the making, with his title songs. Having won several awards in Maharashtra state for his contribution to music, he has also won the RAPA award for best jingles. His jingle ‘Mile Sur Mera tumhara’ based on national integration is still fresh in our memory. Some of his other popular jingles are for Zandu Balm, Laajari and Santoor. Besides his background score for two Marathi dramas of Suyog, his forthcoming films as Music director are : ‘Kay Pahilat Majhyat’, ‘Me Ek Bandu’, ‘Kimayagar’ and ‘Disha’.

Shivaji Satam

Shivaji Satam

Biography / Profile:

If he had not become an actor, he would have become a cricketer. The entry of Shivaji Satam on the stage during his college days was a co incidence. It so happened that during Ganesh festival, when one of the performer fell sick, Shivaji was asked to perform his role and he did it omitting some of his dialogues. He got his next opportunity when Vasantrao Deshpande offered him a role in his ‘Sangit Vardaan’ on stage; but here again during one of his entries he omitted almost a page-full of dialogues. At that moment, Shivaji felt that his acting career had ended. But, Vasantrao did offer him another opportunity and that’s how Shivaji Satam as an actor was born. There after , there was no looking back for him.

Shivaji came into limelight with his role of Hambirao, in Goa Hindu Association’s popular stage play ‘Raigadala Jenvha Jaag Yete‘ . Thereafter he performed in various Inter –Bank competitions, as he joined Central Bank of India. Those days, he performed in some of the experimental plays and some popular plays like ‘Swapna Eka Valyache‘ and ‘Mansala Dankh Maticha‘. He made his debut in films through Kamlakar Torne’s ‘Kaiwari‘ and then also did few films; but he was more comfortable with stage and TV serials. His most popular TV serial ‘Ek Shoonya Shoonya‘ directed by his friend B.P Singh almost made him reach the popularity heights. His role as a CID Inspector made people believe that he was a real life Police Officer. People used be scared at his glimpse while traveling in Bus or Train. Bus conductors refused to take money from him. So much was the impact of his role. Otherwise, in real life he still continues to remain very modest and courteous person.

Shivaji has a long list of Hindi and Marathi films to his credit, but he is still comfortable playing ACP- Pradyuman’s role in B.P. Singh’s extremely popular serial CID, which has created a record on Sony Entertainment TV for being the longest running serial based on crime investigation. Shivaji has been honored with The Maharashtra State Best Actor Award, for his performance in the Marathi film ‘Ek Hoti Vadi‘, which almost makes you shed tears and also for his excellent performance in a stage play ‘Dhyaani Mani‘. He has also won other awards in various categories from the State as well as the Zee- Alpha and the Sahitya Sangh. He was nominated twice, for films like Ghulam-e-Mustafa and Nidaan.
