‘MUMBAICHA DABBEWALA’ REVIEW
Rating: ★★
Director: Manohar Sarvankar Writer: Pratap Gangawane Music: Ram-Laxshiman Singer: Usha Mangeshkar- Nandesh Upam-Sujan Art by: Anil Vat. Choreography: Dilip Mistry and Deepali Vichare Cast: Bharat Jadhav, Madhu Kambikar, Kuldeep Pawar, Vijay Chavan, Deepali Sayeed, Smita Gondkar, Vijay Gokhale, Subhash Palshikar, Jayant Wadka Movie Review by: Vijay Kudal |
Absolutely delightful movie portraying the dabbewalas of Mumbai and each aspect of their life. Though in Mumbai itself there were estimated 5,000 dabbewals and 2,00,000 customers and one six sigma certification not the rest India but Mumbai itself lacks grace in knowledge of this Dabbewala association and their work, work ethics, work culture. This movie satisfies all needs
Though fictional one but this story waves and spins through documentary aspect also, keeping tempo of events and balance of storyline.
Story starts with Normal introduction to characters like Namdeo (Bharat Jadhav) The dreamy boy and prominent dabbawala, after his father working in his same business line i.e. dabbewala owning the ‘Toli’
( company) of his mother (Madhu Kambiker) under management of his MAMA (Vijay Chavan), This simple person falls in love of Hema Lotterywali (Deepali Sayyad) Hema has own problems in life, drunken father and mobster mother, stills on his own finding way to earn money and trying to keep family bonds when her mother refuses to provide meal (Dabba) bharat gives his own tiffin and eats vadapav fro more than 6 months till accidentally Hema knows about it. He keeps that dabaa as Tajmahal, symbol of love but destiny awaits some thing more for him.
Also forming a triangle comes ani (Smita Gondkar) framing a documentary and real aspects of dabbewals ,their modus operandy and bridging this film from friction to facts The Boss (Kuldeep Pawar) is still cool in negative shade. Stealing atomic secrets whose spy actually hides CD containing atomic power plans ,where? in same tiffin box and well then routine starts (finding CD, kidnapping of heroine and climax battle)
Bharat is still green and steal hearts in his dream sequences specially when GOD vithal takes dabba from him. Newcomer Smita looks mod in glossy outfits Vijay Chavan and other makes us laugh at each pun.
Major highlight of this film is around 500 actual Mumbai dababwals are acted in it including Raghunath Medge. President of Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Supplier’s charity trust, all real life sets, shooting majorly on sundays to avoid disturbance in their work and still completed shooting in 25 days with all due research.
And yes, how many movies you have seen in which villain joins hero’s business? Glad to see such optimism.
Still some threads missing like what happened to captives of gangsters and parents of Hema. Item song of Sambhavna Seth was also boring one.
Well still it is unique movie which we better miss not.
‘VASUDEV BALWANT PHADAKE’ REVIEW
Rating: na
Producers: Ramesh Deo Production & Maharastra Govt. Director: Gajendra Ahire Music: Hridaynath Mangeshkar Art Director: Nitin Desai Cinematography: Krishnamurthy, Rajen Kotharis Background Score: Amar Mohile Dialogue: Ashish Deo Cast: Ramesh Deo, Ajinkya Deo, Sonali Kulkarni, Rahul Singh, Shrikant Moghe, Kamlesh Sawant, Vijay Kadam, Vijay Patkar, Smita Gondkar… Movie Review by: Nisha Garud |
Ajinkya Deo gives a mesmerizing performance as Vasudev Balwant Phadke in the much awaited movie of the year. The movie depicts the journey of the life of a great revolutionary and takes one from the green fields of his birth place in Shirghon (Raigad district) to the deserts of Eden where he takes his last breath.
Working as a assiduous clerk with military accounts department in Pune, Vasudev is denied a day’s leave to meet his ailing mother, an incident which becomes a turning point in his life and he takes up the task of liberating his Mother Land. He tours the country giving lectures; motivating and urging people to stop serving the British and break the bonds of slavery. He takes the help of the lower classes and forms an army to fight against the British. He and his army looted rich zamindars to fund their activities. His knowledge of working with military and handling their accounts helps him to know the hideouts of the arms and ammunitions of the Britishers. Touched by the condition of the farmers in Maharashtra, he rises to the cause of becoming their savior. Cause of his surpise attacks on the tyrant British officers he was known among the British Officers. British Officers announces reward of Rs 4000 to whoever got Vasudev Balwant Phadke in their notice. But this man has dare to place ‘wanted’ posters offering a reward of Rs 5000 for capturing same british officers. against that Rs. The Govt. is compelled to send more army officials to capture him and put an end to the terror he has caused among the Officers. To continue to carry his task forward, he is asked to go into hiding as Kashikar Bhooaa by his colleagues. A losing battle against the British takes him to Andhra Pradesh where he initiates ties with Ismail community and they decide to employ people as army officials and make a new army of their own to fight against the Britishers. Deteriorating health, ending rainy season and deception by the local Vaidya (doctor) lead to his imprisonment. Unending torturous life in the prison of Eden jail finally takes away this great martyr to the doors of death.
Sonali Kulkarni plays Bhavani, who is secretly in love with Vasudev. She is a great supporter of his cause and accompanies him on his all expeditions. Sonali is fabulous in her performance as a Ramoshi girl with the rustic language and accent. Legend Hridaynath Mangeshkar’s music and Amar Mohile’s background music adds a heroic, patriotic and vibrant touch to the story. Nitin Desai’s art direction is as marvelous as ever. Cinematographers Krishnamurthy and Rajen Kothari have done wonders to make the film realistic and lively.
Though the movie loses its thread in the middle and also lacks effective dialogues, a must watch for all those Marathi movie freaks
‘KADACHIT’ REVIEW
Rating: na
Producer: Mrs. Usha Bhave Director: Chandrakant Kulkarni Story: Girish Joshi Cast: Ashvini Bhave, Sachin Khedekar, Sadashiv Amarapurkar, Tushar Dalavi, Sulekha Talvalkar, Dr.Sharad Bhutadiya, Satish Aalekar… Movie Review by: Nayana |
Truth is always stranger than the fiction. Nevertheless, every one runs behind the truth. But sometimes we realize that it is better if some things remain unknown. The new marathi movie ‘Kadachit’ deals with conflict between truth and lies and its alarming impact on emotional entanglement resulted in psychological disorders.
Marathi Mulgi and the Producer of ‘Kadachit’, Ashwini Bhave was very excited talking to MMW team about this film. A well-known Neuro-surgeon Dr. Gayatri Pradhan, her husband and her lovely daughter Piyu… live happily till one day when a person (better to see this person on screen) from Gayatri’s past enters their lives and the happiness shatters. A little mistake done by Gayatri unintentially in the past disturbs the whole life of that person and when she realises this she gets psychologically disturbed . At last the truth comes into the light and Gayatri not only recuperates from this mental disorder but rejuvenate her beautiful life.
Well-known producer Girish Joshi has written the story. Ashwini accepted the challenge to make a movie on it and succeeded with the help of Director Chandrakant Kulkarni(‘Bindhast’ fame). Dialogues are by Girish Joshi.
After a prolong stay abroad, the graceful Ashwini has arrived with a bang!! A confident and successful Neuro- surgeon, an ideal wife, a caring mother and a collapsed lady… Ashwini has played the lead role whole- heartedly. Accompanying actors Sachin Khedekar, Tushar Dalvi, Sharad Bhutadia, Sulekha Talwalkar and child artist Twinkle Raikar’s performances are outstanding. Sadashiv Amrapurkar, in a role of a father grabs attention because of his performance. This movie has no songs, but Amar Mohile’s eerie background music is in palce with movies mood. Cameraman Rajiv Jain’s excellent work deserves a special mention.
A strong story, impressive dialogues, mature direction and outstanding performance lead to an excellent movie. ‘Kadachit’ just confirms this and MMW confidently says that the movie’s success is ‘Nakkich’ (certainly)!!!!
‘SADE MAADE TEEN’ REVIEW
Rating: na
Presenter: Zee Talkies Producers: Anubhuti Art Director: Ankush Chaudhari – Sachit Patil Music: Ajit Parabh – Hrishikesh Kamerkar Cast: Ashok Saraf, Makarand Anaspure, Bharat Jadhav, Siddharth Jadhav, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sujata Joshi… Movie Review by: Nayana |
What do u get when you put together 3 brilliant marathi actors and give a Desi Tadka of oldie Chalti ka naam gaadi? Simple…! This makes a new massala movie in marathi. A few years back Mahesh Kothare tried such a Tadka in his “Dhumdhadaka’ which was based on ‘Pyar Kiye jaa’, and marathi movie industry rejuvenated. Else marathi film was stucked in a wicked savkar(money lander)/ jamindar(landowner) and sasurvashin/ saas bahu type, so called ‘bechari bahu’ , and overflowing buckets of tears with sobbing women coming out of the cinema halls. It was Mahesh Kothare (Dhumdhadaka) and Sachin Pilgaonkar’s (Navari mile navryala) efforts, which really dragged marathi film out of such stuff.
When one started speaking about marathi films 2types of reflex actions suddenly blown on – one is with twisting faces ‘We don’t like to watch marathi films’, and another one with a deep sigh ‘Gone those golden days of marathi films’!!
History repeated and aapale Sachit Patil and Ankush Chaudhary along with Zee talkies and Anubhuti Arts entered in film production with ‘Saade Maade Teen’. Na!! It’s not a remake or replica, but it’s a metamorphosis of the same theme bloomed in the marathi mati. Ofcourse, inspired from ‘Chalti ka nam Gadi’ one of Kishor Kumar’s debut film, the film is a rib-tickling comedy set against the backdrop of Garage, filled with ‘Ek ladki bhigi…’ type ‘barasat’ ka gana or may be ‘panch rupaiyya’ type, leading to hilarious situations!
While this film promises to be potential blockbuster this year, it also makes the launch of Zee Talkies brand.
The story is of 3 brothers- the family head ‘Dada’ (Ashok Saraf) and his 2 brothers Madan (Makarand Anaspure) and Chandan (Bharat Jadhav), running their Kurale garage. The younger duo never dares to go against dada’s wish. Dada is a character who hates female because of his first crush. A gal (Sukanya Kulkarni) betrayed him after a marriage proposal.
Obviously, when 2 gals enters in the life of the younger ones, the chaos evoked, and both caught in dilemma of the threat of Dada and emotional attachments. Here enters the Villain to create obstacle between the life of our dupe Chandan, and opulent Madhura. Now guess who help this couple? So after removing all the barricades, the smashing end of the film…
Sachit and Ankush played a safe game. Well, half battle was already won by casting these trios, and afterwards director didn’t allow Makarand and Bharat to rove from the basic storyline. Even they haven’t added their famous accent shown in other films and used them tactfully as never seen before.
A little but most important thing, if they could use the Ashok saraf’s caliber more effectively, as the role offered to him is less challengeable as compare to his capacity, the film would be definitely full 2 dhamal!!!
Else nothing to say about their fantastic tuning, understanding, and coordination. Instead our wise audience won’t accept such a dupe characters. Needless to say Minor mistake like winning applause by repeating same dialogue excusable!!
Dialogues by Sanjay Mone satisfy you. Well, its not a burst of laughter in fact the film doesn’t need it, but more sharp dialogues would keep the film at great height surely.
The directors have taken some kind of support of farcical comedy. The climax fighting comes in the form of farce. Of course no one expects smashing de danadan fighting as it is not an action film, but still…..missing something in this shot only. Otherwise the film takes you from smiling to chuckling and then giggling. Overall a fresh comedy!!!
Bakula Namdev Ghotale, Directed by Kedar Shinde
Rating: ★★
Presenter: Shemaroo Entertainment Producer: Atul Maroo, Ketan Maru Director: Kedar Shinde Dialogue & Lyrics: Machindra More Music: Devdutt Sabale Cast: Bharat Jadhav, Siddharth Jadhav, Sonali Kulkarni, Vijay Chavan, Kushal Badrike, Ganesh Revdekar… Movie Review by: Pradip Patil |
Kedar Shinde and Shemaroo films continue their successful association with the latest movie ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’. To churn out 3 movies in the gap of 6 months, now that’s something interesting.
This time Kedar plays it safe by doing what he does best, That is directing a comdey. Yet there are few important things that show that he is indeed trying to do something new instead of sticking to the tried and tested path. So let’s have a look at those ‘different’ things.
First of all, This movie has Bharat Jadhav, but not as a hero. This time he is the bad guy.
Second and I think most important, it has Siddhart Jadhav in the role of protagonist, though he is not your typical hero material.
And last but not the least, this movie atleast deals with an issue which is much discussed these days, but let me tell you that’s not the main aim of this movie. Every new movie from Kedar raises the expectations high, so does his latest offering entertains? The answer is yes, but not as much as his earlier works.
The movie’s biggest drawback is it’s weak first half. The plot revolves around a newly wed couple Namdev (A forgetful simpleton), Bakula (Namya’s intelligent wife) and Ghotale (the wicked landlord). When Namya and Bakula come to Ghotale to take his blessing, Ghotale falls for Bakula and decides to win her at any cost. So he hatches a plan to kill namya. But namya survives the attack and returns home after few days. But its too late as the compensation money for Namya’s accidental death is about to be handed to bakula. So what games the couple play to make the most of the situation forms the rest of the story.
Unfortunately the first half drags on. The characters are effectively established but it could have been easliy achieved with less reels. The first half leaves viewers hoping for more action but nothing happens except few funny moments.
In the second half, Kedar has managed to salvage the movie and from there onwards it is total timepass. The second half is so well made that it actually makes you overlook the insipid first half. Full marks to the entire team for this. Ghaotale and Bakula’s efforts to outsmart each other keeps the audience entertained.
Devdatta Sabale’s music works pretty well. The movie has two lavani songs, both are picturised on gorgeous Resham Tipnis. The another duet song is really catchy and nicely picturised. I bet you will be humming it after the movie. Dialogs are funny and serve their purpose well.
Newcomer Sonali Kulkarni plays her part with confidence. Siddhart Jadhav is fun to watch and does justice to his role. Bharat Jadhav is excellent, Even though his character is picturised as funny for most of the part, he effectively portrays the mean and cunning shades of the character. I wonder why an actor like Vijay Chavan is wasted in such an insignificant role.
Bakula Namdev Ghotale has its own faults, but it does what it is supposed to do, that is to make you laugh.
‘JATRA’ Keep aside the logic
Rating: ★★1/2
Producer: Mrs.Bela Shinde Story, Screenplay & Director: Kedar Shinde Music: Ajay – Atul Cast: Bharat Jadhav, Kranti Redkar, Vijay Chavan, Priya Berde, Siddharth Jadhav, Sanjay Khapre, Kushal Badrike, Ramesh Vani, Ganesh Khedekar, Viju Khote, Upendra Limaye… Movie Review by: Pradip Patil |
This is the only way to enjoy this mad mad comedy offered by Kedar Shinde and his gang. In a long while, I haven’t seen a movie like ‘Jatra’. This is an out & out masala entertainment and that’s it, Nothing else. This is the kind of movie which begs not to be taken seriously. You might find people complaining about lack of lagic and stroyline but take my word for it. A movie like ‘Jatra’ doesn’t require these things to keep
you entertained. It has many more things for that purpose.
This movie can be compared with Kedar’s plays like Sahi re Sahi, Locha zala re and TV shows like ‘Hasaa Chakatfu’. The movie has no storyline and yet it manages to capture your attention.Kedar has pulled all the tricks to esure that viewers remains engaged. The events take place at such a fast pace that you hardly get time to think at all. The dialogues are another plus point of this film. One must give the credits to all the actors who have given such energetic performances. The movie belongs to Bharat Jadhav, Vijay Chavan and Siddharth Jadahv.
The movie has two catchy songs and both are hit all over Maharashtra. The movie begins with an Item Number by Ankush Chowdhary and the Kombadi Song in the second half is simply hilarious. The movie is
technically slick.
I would like few words of caution though -If what you seek is a sensible and intellectual movie (Are there any?) then please please stay away from ‘Jatra’. Otherwise go ahead and enjoy this mad mad comedy.
Afterall a healthy dose of laughter never does a harm, you see.
AAMHI ASU LADAKE REVIEW
Rating: na
Movie : Aamhi Asu Ladake Year: 2006 Producer: Abhiram Bhadkamkar Director: Abhiram Bhadkamkar Music: Ajay-Atul Cast: Subodh Bhave, Dilip Pravalakar |
Aamhi Asu Ladke” (WE – THE LOVED ONES) directed, produced, and screenplay by Abhiram Bhadkamkar drives its inspiration from “Reason and Life.” In this film the chasm between the capabilities of young men and women, and the expectations of their parents is explored. The film is based on mentally retarded children. Mr. Bhandamkar said that he started writing and in a flow of consciousness the story emerged. The story is also based on his own experiences and the character Abhijeet is a reflection of Abhiram himself. He chose the film method of expression rather than writing because the impact of the movies is much more potent.
‘PAK PAK PAKAAK’ REVIEW
Rating: na
Producer: Ashish Remo Story: Sai Paranjpe Director: Gautam Joglekar Cast: Nana Patekar, Saksham Kulkarni, Narayani Shastri, Jyoti Subhash… Movie Review by: Pradip Patil |
Think of movies for children and I am sure many inane and childish movies will flood your mind. But not any more!
“Pak Pak Pakaak” is the movie that breaks the stereotype associated with children’s movies. This is the movie that will entertain and enlighten the grown ups and kids equally. Pak Pak Pakaak, directed by Gautam Jogalekar and based on stroy created by his mother Sai Paranjape is a refreshing change from the usual marathi movies.
Pak Pak Pakaak has very solid storyline. The plot revolves around a village, a boy (Saksham Kulkarni) living with his grandmother and an outcast (Nana Patekar) living in the forest outside the village. Chiklu is a spoilt brat who lives with his grandmother and derives pleasure from playing pranks on everyone without caring for anybody’s feelings. Even the only two people he cares about can not change him! The whole village seems to be afraid of his pranks. To add to the villager’s woes there are rumors of a ghost called bhutya. It is said that he resides in the forrest and haunts anybody who venture inside the forrest.
One day, Chiklu slips into forrest inadvertently and stumbles upon bhutya. He realises that Bhutya is not a ghost but a normal human being who has decided to outcast himself from the society and protect the forrest. Bhutya and Chiklu soon strike a chord and become best of pals. How they both help each other to overcome the hirdles in their life forms the rest of the story.
When it comes to fine performances, this movie has plenty of them. But it’s the youngest of them all, Sakhsham Kulkarni who steals the show. He portays the innocence and the curiosity of a young mind with such an ease. Very natural performance. Nana Patekar gives very controlled performance. There are moments when you can see why he is considered as one of the best. The way he utilises his hypnotic gaze and his voice to get into the character is simply awesome. The duo has a such chemistry between them. The performances by Jyoti Shubhash(Grandma) and Narayani Shastri(Salu) are very effective.
Music is another strong point of Pak Pak Pakaak. The songs are part of the narrative and help the story move forward instead of being common dance and singing routine. The song picturisation is excellent, especially “Salu ga salu” and “Dhipadi Dhipang”. The movie captures the feel of a village very well. The supporting actors, their getups and dialogues are very natural and authentic. The cinematographer does the job of capturing various shades of the forrest very well.
This movie has social messages in it like “Education is good”, “Protect the Nature” and “Don’t be superstitious”. But instead of preachinbg them, the movie conveys them very subtely and that’s what makes this movie different from the others.
our word is that you should not miss this movie and once you watch this movie, I am sure you will keep coming back for more.
