Produced by Meghana Jadhav and Zee Studios , this film stars Abhinay Berde and Kashmira Pardeshi in lead roles. The other important artistes of this film are, Priya Berde, Abhijit Chavan & Kushal Badrike. The film also presents Vaibhav Mangle, Anand Ingale, Chandrakant Kulkarni, Ankush Choudhari & Amruta Khanvilkar in guest appearance. Amber Hadap, Ganesh Pandit & Ravi jadhav have written the story, screenplay and dialogues of this film while Abhijeet Dehpande has done the editing. Background music by Saurabh Rane and cinematography by Vasudev Rane are the other credits of this film.

After the success of ‘Dagadi Chawl‘, Ankush Choudhary has become the new style icon of Marathi film industry. Now, he looks more confident of shouldering the responsibility of a film, as a solo hero. And, to begin the new year, he has a suitable role to play in his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Guru’, directed by Sanjay Jadhav and produced by Eros International, Dreaming Twenty Four Seven and Bagpiper Soda.

No wonder, we have seen the commercial ads of Bagpiper Soda, presenting Ankush Choudhary along with his leading lady Urmila Kanitkar Kothare and actor Sayaji Shinde. The makers of this film, unveiled the special poster designed by Publicity designer Sachin Gurav and also the first look of ‘Guru’ presenting a song picturised on Ankush, displaying different styles of sunglasses, while singing, dancing and fighting, on the music of Amitraj. Singer Adarsh Shinde has rendered the voice for him, with lyrics by Sachin Pathak.

Director Sanjay Jadhav was the happiest man today, to notice a good attendance of media persons, for this event. This also gives him an indication of Ankush Choudhary’s popularity. The film is all set to release on 22nd January 2016.

Past happenings of Marathi films released during past  5 to 6 years, show that films released during the first month of the new year, have always been hits. Best examples are films like ‘Zenda’, ‘ Natarang’, ‘Shala’, ‘Balak Palak’, ‘Time Pass’ & ‘Classmates’.  Now, director Sanjay Jadhav is also getting ready to release his film ‘Guru’, which is presented by Eros International , during January 2016. So, after Diwali Dhamaka, we hope to see  new year bash too, with ‘Guru‘ declaring  its release during January 2016.

For the year 2015 , Sanjay Jadhav didn’t have a good time, as both his films ‘Pyaarwali Love Story’ and ‘Tu Hi Re’ not achieving expected success. So, for Sanjay, it is very necessary to begin the new year with a bang, as he has two more big projects, to handle during 2016. Luckily, for ‘Guru’ he has his ‘Duniyadari’ lucky star Ankush Choudhary, who is presently in great form, with two successive hits, in the form of ‘Double Seat’ and ‘Dagadi Chawl’. Ankush too wants to make it a hat trick with this film, as a successful solo hero. By the way, ‘Guru’ stars Ankush along with Urmila Kanetkar.

Mumbai chawl life is not new to Marathi films. But, to make the entire film on the backdrop of a chawl, is always challenging. Way back in 1970 filmmaker Raja Thakur first depicted the chawl culture of Mumbai, through his film, ‘Mumbaicha Javai’ starring Arun Sarnaik, Ratnamala, Surekha Kudchi & Sharad Talwalkar. Then, inspired by this film Basu Chatterjee made ‘Piya Ka Ghar,’ starring Anil Dhavan & Jaya Bhaduri ( Now, Bachchan) which was a remake of this Marathi film. Then, in 2003, we saw Mahesh Manjrekar making a Hindi film based on Mumbai chawl culture.

Now, director Sameer Vidwans has presented his Marathi film titled ‘Double Seat’ indicating, how both young husband and wife, who aspire to move to a bigger house from a chawl, work hard to make their dream come true. Actually, the film hits out at the traditional joint family system, of living in One Room Kitchen and making adjustments. But, today, with both husband and wife earning, the days are changing. And, young Maharashtrian couples are willing to work harder, to buy their own house, no matter, it is far away from the city.

Through this film’s story, writer Kshitij Patwardhan and director Sameer Vidwans have tried to generate lots of humour through this emotion filled film. Being the elder son in the family and that too just married, Amit ( Ankush Choudhary) quickly understands the problems faced by his wife Manjiri (Mukta Barve) in their One Room Kitchen house in a chawl located at Lalbaug, Mumbai. So, Amit , who works as a supervisor in a Courier Company earning Rs. 25 thousand a month, takes his wife into confidence, to have their own house, where they can have their privacy. Manjiri, who works as Insurance agent, supports his idea.

After hearing about the bold step taken by her elder son, his Mother (Vandana Gupte) and Amit’s younger brother ( Shubhankar Tawde) also support him, selling some home made products to raise money. Only his stubborn father (Vidyadhar Joshi) , does not approve his idea. The film’s screenplay moves ahead, with lots of hurdles faced by Amit and Manjiri, with Manjiri also becoming pregnant. But, as they say, there is always sunshine, after the darkness. And, so we notice happy ending in ‘Double Seat’, with joint effort of entire family.

However, the end of the film, is not very impressive, except for showing the way. But, there is no solution, as to how the couple is going to travel for their jobs from a far away place, to the city. It would have been better, if the film had shown, some other way, of starting their own business. But, the new latest mobile phones shown in the last scene, only indicates, their prosperity.

The intention of the film, is to inspire today’s youth and see big dreams and work hard, to find their own house, no matter it is small and far away from the city. At the same time, it sends a message to those Maharashtrian people, who keep adjusting themselves, in this expanding and developing city, without themselves becoming part of this development. The film does go against the Joint family system; but if one has to live in this city of Mumbai, one needs to plan better future for their little ones.That’s what the writer had to suggest, through this film.

Looking at the performances, Ankush Choudhary, is at his best. He hardly finds such an opportunity, as he is generally seen in multi starrer films. The director, knowing his stage background well , has tried to exploit his full potential, through this film. Mukta Barve, who is always comfortable playing such roles, has once again proved that she is a talented actress. But, through this film, she has gone one step further, to be part of intimate love scenes. There is also a lip lock kissing scene, shot on this lead pair. But,one should not call it a bold scene. Best performances also come from versatile artistes like Vidyadhar Joshi, Vandana Gupte and other TV and film co stars like Sandeep Pathak, Pushkar Shrotri, Aarti, Shivani, Vikas, Shubhankar and others.

Music of this film goes very well with the story, with good lyrics noticed in two songs. Editing of the film is good with good camera work, especially in all those close up scenes.

‘Double Seat’ is certainly inspiring and shows the way to young dreamers.

Every parting indicates a big loss; but, every reunion is a reminiscence. Based on this philosophy is ‘Classmates’, the latest offering from Aditya Sarpotdar. No matter, this film is an authorised remake of a South film, with the same name, Aditya has used his past seven years experience, to skilfully captain his team of talented performers. Set on the backdrop of a college life during 90s, the film begins with a scene 20 years later, when the classmates of 1995 batch reunite for a purpose, in their college. So, we witness the seven batch mates comprising of Satya (Ankush Chaudhari), Appu(Sai Tamhankar), Aditi (Sonalee Kulkarni), Rohit Bhosale, now a MLA (Sachit Patil), Pratap, now a Police Inspector( Sushant Shelar), Amit(Suyash Tilak), now husband of Appu and Heena ( Pallavi Patil), a Muslim woman and close friend of Aditi; attending the opening ceremony of the Music section in memory of their departed friend.

They are all welcomed by the lady principal (Kishori Shahane Viz), mother of late Ani (Siddharth Chandekar). As they are about to meet late in the evening, after the function, an unfortunate accident takes place in respect of one of their classmates. This being a biggest twist in the story, the film progresses with the investigation of the accident and at the same time, taking the viewers into flashback, to show the happenings twenty years ago, while they were in the college. So, we witness the acts of ragging, which prevailed those days, the rivalry between two groups, with the entry of politically backed youth wings, dance n music and of course the love affairs. In short, it is all in one contribution of action, saga, friendship, music and revenge.
Best thing about the film, is its well written screenplay by Sameer Vidwans and Kshitij Patwardhan and suitable dialogues by Kshitij, to meet the requirement of the realistic college lifestyle, during that period. But, above all the director Aditya Sarpotdar shows his presence through many important scenes. Watch the scene, where ace swimmer Sachit Patil folding his call letter from foreign university for admission, to support one of the tilting legs of the side table in his house.
This clearly displayed the gravity of the situation, where his father who is in deep trouble in Politics, requiring the support of his son and the son offering the same, through this act. Very cleverly, he has managed to unfold the mystery, in the screenplay. Though he gave a Marathi feel to this film, the two songs have a south Indian flavour. Even otherwise, barring two songs, the music is not very impressive. Perhaps, too many cooks couldn’t match well, with each other. But, the background score is simply fabulous. Good support comes from impressive camera work and sound design.
In the acting department, three actors have shown maturity in their acting, while portraying their respective characters. They are Ankush Choudhary , Sachit Patil and Siddharth Chandekar. All three of them stole the show, displaying diversity . The director has exploited their full potential. Among the females, Sonalee Kukarni has also shown lot of improvisation, in the role of Aditi. Sai Tamhankar suits well in the role of possessive Appu, but her performance is more dependent on the dialogues offered to her. Sushant Shelar and SuyashTilak are convincing, but Pallavi has been wasted in the role of Heena. Not much scope was given to this promising new find actress, who was picked up from the talent hunt programme of 9X Jhakas. Veterans like Kishori Shanane, Ramesh Deo and Sanajy Mone offer good support. But, the ultimate winner is Aditya Sarpotdar. He really stands tall, for his effective presentation style, in this story based and suspense filled film.

Well, we are all aware that new Marathi film ‘No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey’ is a remake of popular Hindi comedy ‘No Entry’. But, while making this film in Marathi, the entire film has been copied scene to scene, instead of offering it a Marathi touch. As a result, it has failed to hold the audience for entire 163 minute show on the screen. Nevertheless, being a sit- com, the film has succeeded in offering the expected entertainment through good performances coming from all the seven important artistes in the film.

The original film had succeeded in creating laughter, because the theme was new to the audience. Moreover, in Maharashtra most of the Marathi film goers watch Hindi films. Even if they haven’t watched this original film in theatres, they must have surely watched it on their TV screens and that too in repeat runs. All that was expected was a Marathi touch to this theme; but, it has gone the Bollywood way, even to the extent of retaining the names of all the characters. If they could change the name of MLA, why couldn’t they find suitable names for seven important characters ?

When we see some of the remakes of South films in Hindi, these original films are not watched by majority of the cine goers from places other than south region. And hence, such films whether action or comedy, turn out to be successful in North India including Maharashtra. But, same is not the case, with remake of Hindi film in Marathi. It may be kept in mind that about 50 % of the Hindi film’s business is from Maharashtra.

Now, the million dollar question still remains to be answered is, whether a remake of popular Hindi comedy film and that too with predictable sequences, will be accepted in Marathi ? Let, the people of Maharashtra decide the fate of this film. The opening day, witnessed very poor response at a multiplex in the suburbs. Now, the weekend collections will decide the success of this film.

Looking at the efforts put in, it may be mentioned that the film has been shot with the high quality standard observed in big budget Hindi cinema,, with good camera work by Arwind Soni and perfect music by Nakash-Sargam. The selection of locations are good, including picturesque Goa. Even the titles of the film have been presented well. But, there seemed to be some budgeting on costumes of the artistes and the dancers in the song sequences. In the case of Sai Tamhankar, who played an important character of Bobby, there wasn’t much issue of costumes, as the film has been focused on her. She is the centre of attraction in this film. And, she has lived up to the expectations of the film maker. One can say that she has offered more than what Bipasha could offer in the original, as far as glamour is concerned.

Looking at the performances of others, both Bharat Jadhav as Kishan and Kranti Redkar as Kajal match well in their respective roles, with their perfect timing for comedy. Aniket Vishwasrao as Shekhar gets a kind of role, which has tested his strengths in comedy sequences. And he has done extremely well. Manwa Naik playing Sanjana also supports well as his partner. Both Ankush Choudhary (Prem) and Sai Lokur (his wife Pooja) have limited scope, especially after interval, but they too have done well. Paddy kamble is just fine as Bobby’s bodyguard. Anant Jog is good as fun loving MLA. Viju Khote does well in the small role, he has to his share.

As predicted, this film is a musical sitcom with good performances. But, it has certainly failed to offer the Marathi feel to the characters.

In the past, we saw many Marathi films influenced by some Bollywood films. Latest Marathi film ‘Bluffmaster’ has not only copied the name of Bollywood film with the same title, but has also gone on the lines of few David Dhavan’s popular hits. If you have seen Govinda’s films ‘Aunty No. 1′ and ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’, there is striking resemblance of the characters of Aunty and Uncle in this film to that played by Govinda in a similar circumstances. There is no doubt that Ankush Choudhary has succeeded in portraying these roles; but thanks to Vikram Gaekwad for his creative work on the make up of Ankush Choudhary.

Only last month we saw Ankush playing a Bluffmaster through three different characters in the film ‘Zhakaas’ and now we once again find him playing three different characters by changing over quickly from one role to other. Isn’t that a coincidence ?

The story of this Marathi ‘Bluffmaster’ revolves around Niki (Ankush Choudhary), who is a struggler and is in search of a role to play hero in films. He shares his room with his friend Prakash (Mangesh Desai) who is a script writer and also struggles in his life. Both Niki and Prakash are offered Junior artiste’s roles by Assistant director Deepak ( Pushkar Shrotri) who is aspiring to become an independent director and marry Sanica( Tejaswini Pandit), whom he likes. But, when Niki sees Sanica, he falls in love with her. Deepak does not like it and he seeks the help of Sanica’s aunty (Kishori Ambiye) to foil Niki’s plans. But, Niki with the help of his friend Prakash, plays different roles i.e. of his aunty and Father turn by turn; after he comes in contact with a stranger ,who offers him an assignment.

What happens further, is all that we have witnessed in some Bollywood comedy films. Written by Anil Dixit, the screenplay of the film by Rajesh Kolan is no different than clippings from David’s past films. The director Kishore Saav, seems to have been influenced by this Bollywood film maker.
The title music also goes on the lines of Bollywood’s ‘Bluffmaster’ on ‘Rock and pop’ style, with the inclusion of Poorva Pawar giving company to Ankush Choudhary on the dance floor. Music by Prasad – Advait is not very impressive , but background music by Avinash Vishwajeet is remarkable. Art director Sachin Nevse and cinematographer Sanjay Khanzode have tried their best to make this film more presentable with their respective jobs. But, while watching this film, one has to leave their brains at home, as the logical thinking process is missing in the film.

‘Bluffmaster’, is basically just a time pass film, with situation based comedy. Throughout the film, you find the hero dodging someone or the other and it is only in the climax that you come to know, his actual identity. Had this film been released before ‘Zhakaas’ it would have made a big difference. But, as you see in most of the Marathi films, good performances by the artistes, make such films watch able for the entire family. It is a one man show by Ankush Choudhary who plays all his three characters with conviction. He is more perfect while playing that father’s role. Kishori Ambiye, Pushkar Shrotri, Vijay kadam and Mangesh Desai have supported extremely well. Tejaswini Pandit has less scope, as this film is a male dominated film; but, she does her job very well. Others in the supporting cast are just fine. All in all , ‘Bluffmaster’ is an average entertaining film.

Known for his Police detection stories, writer Shrikant Sinker had also written in the past a play ‘Aaliya Bhogasi’ based on a team of mentally unstable people in a mental asylum, who only think of their past profession and enact their skills all the time. Producer Mahesh Manjrekar, perhaps got inspired with that play, while projecting his characters through his new film ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’, which also revolves around 5 such mentally unstable characters( Bharat Jadhav, Siddharth Jadhav, Ankush Choudhary, Vaibhav Mangale & Sanjay Narvekar), who are being treated in his own way at a private Mental asylum by Dr. Subodh ( played by Mahesh himself) , attached to that asylum.

Mr. Manjrekar known for his offerings on sensational subjects, this time thought of moving into comedy and hence selected this performance oriented film with the sole motive of entertaining the audience. Directed jointly by Atul kale and Sudesh Manjrekar, the producer has himself got involved into the screenplay and dialogues in the company of Abhijeet Deshpande and Sanjay Pawar. There is nothing much seriously happening into the screenplay, except for theose mischievous acts by the five characters , which only encourage competition among themselves. It only looked like that the directors had during the pre-interval stage had given complete freedom to them, resulting into overacting by atleast two characters.

It was only after interval, it gave an impression that the director duo had taken total control of the film. The happenings in the film clearly indicate that each character had his own share to display talent under a given situation, which was nothing but pose mentally disturbed and perform an act to look more natural in that condition. And, this experiment succeeds only to a certain extent in post interval session comprising of 55 minutes.The film does not pay much attention on the past history of these characters, except for Bharat Jadhav, whose past incidence has been shown for proving him mentally unstable. The total length of film is just nearing two hours, a perfect length, as further extension would have certainly taxed the audience.

‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ is a male dominated film, as the three girls namely Manva, Kranti and Poorva play just show pieces and have been rightly used in the climax scene as item girls. Manva makes her appearance just at the stroke of interval, while Kranti comes in almost towards the end of the film. Most of the scenes in the film are based on ‘mind act’ done by each character and among them Sanjay Narvekar invites all the attention for his cricket gimmicks that go very well with his body language. His character also springs a surprise in the climax, thus turning him into a real hero.

Watching the performances of other artistes, Bharat Jadhav, Vaibhav Mangale, Ankush Choudhary and Mahesh Manjrekar himself are all within their limits, except for Siddharth, who has been controlled in the second half, avoiding dialogues for him. Kamlakar Satpute, playing the gay Don is just fine; nothing exceptional about his performance, as we have seen such characters on the screen in the past. Since the film has Bollywood flavour, he reminds you of Kulbhushan Kharbanda in ‘Shaan’, but doesn’t look dangerous. Among the three doctors from the asylum playing villains, Kishore Kadam is impressive. Others in the supporting cast have done well, but Santosh Juvekar has been wasted in that ordinary looking side role.

There isn’t much scope for music in the film, except for the so called item number in the climax, where lavani has been performed in a different style. The background music sounded loud pre interval, but has been used well in the later part of the film. Cinematography by Ajit Reddy is good . The film is likely to impress the kind of audience who enjoy watching TV shows like ‘Comedy Circus’ and ‘Fu bai Fu’, as this film is based only on performances to entertain the audience with a given theme.
