Latest released Marathi film ‘Taath Kanaa’ presents a captivating  biopic on the life of world renowned neuro-spinal surgeon Dr. Premanand Ramani, who believed in himself, since his childhood. His PLIF technique in spinal surgery, made him stand tall in the field of medical innovation. In short, nothing was impossible for this surgeon, who possessed human spirit.

In the film ‘Taath Kana’ versatile actor Umesh Kamat has played the character of Dr. Ramani convincingly, presenting his emotions at every important stage of his life. His looks at different stages in his life and his body language speaks about his involvement into the character. Credit for the same also goes to writer Shrikant Bojewar and director Girish Mohite, for their extra ordinary skills, to make this film entertaining in spite of its serious emotion filled subject, which touches the heart of the audience.

‘Taath Kanaa’ captures the attention of the audience right from the beginning till the end, as it relates to Doctor – patient relationship . Their interactions and the hospital atmosphere have been well exhibited. Writer Bojewar and director Mohite have presented two important operations, namely Ms. Parminder from Haryana and young Narendra from Maharashtra. Emotions of Parminder’s husband and Narendra’s family members and their faith in Dr. Ramani have also been presented very well.

Besides notable performance coming from Umesh Kamat, who stands tall with the central character; good support comes from Deepti Devi who plays Dr. Ramani’s wife Pratima very convincingly. She seems to be a button artist, quickly changing her expressions, according to moving situations in the screenplay. In the role of a young patient Narendra, Suyog Gorhe has done well, while Sayali Sanjeev as his would be wife and Shailesh Datar and Anupama Takmoge as Narendra’s worried parents have performed their respective characters very sensibly.

There are no songs in this film, but Avinash -Vishwajeet make their presence felt in the background score. Good editing by Nilesh Gawand and wonderful cinematography by Krushnakumar Soren make this film more presentable. Certainly, an inspiring film, which can be watched by all age groups.

‘Darav darav..’ song from the forthcoming Marathi film ‘Naal 2′ will be in the voice of ‘Saregamapa’ fame singer Jayesh Khare .This song which is pictured on little children Chaitu, Chimu and Mani is written by Vaibhav Deshmukh and music of this song is composed by A.V. Prafulchandra. Along with Jayesh Khare Master Avan has also given his voice for this song.

Film maker Nagraj Manjule has been offering scope to many newcomers through his films. And the selection of Singer Jayesh Khare was also done by him along with Prafulchandra and Sudhakar Yankati from the Saregamapa programme. In a short time this ‘Saregamapa’ competitor has won the hearts of many music lovers. ‘Naal-2’ which is produced by Zee Studios and Nagraj Manjule will be released during Diwali on 10^th November 2023.

Marathi film makers challenging the exploitation of people in the name of God through their film’s subject, is not new to Marathi film lovers . Film ‘Deool‘ was the best example. Actually, it all depends on how effectively this subject is handled, to present the package of entertainment, which is so necessary to invite the audience to cinema halls. Latest released Marathi film ‘Mantr‘ also deals with one such subject. In this film, the leading female character of the film Antara played by Deepti Devi who is an atheist, voices against the blind faith of the people in the priests and so called Godmen.

Holding a cigarette in one hand and sometimes a glass of drink, she brainwashes her new boyfriend friend Niranjan( Saurabh Gogate) who is three years younger to her and whom she likes. But, Antara is not aware that her new boyfriend is the son of a renowned Hindu priest Sridharpant ( Manoj Joshi) , who lives in their neighbourhood in Pune. However, when she comes to know about it, she slaps him for hiding the facts from her. Niranjan, who is also cheated by one of his close friend David in an incident, drinks heavily that night and dares to question his father about the transparency in his profession. Disturbed by this all of a sudden happening, forces his father to proceed to his native place for peace.

Actually, Niranjan is himself is in a dilemma, whether to take up a priest job in Germany for a short period, as suggested by his father. But, he decides to go only because his friend promises him a Business Dev Manager’s job of his web development company over there. Antara is also going on an assignment to Germany. In the meanwhile , an unexpected incident in the climax of the film, brings the lead pair together, with Antara also realising the importance of Niranjan and his point of view.

Debutant Director Harshavardhan has tried to create humour in the screenplay of this film, through some interesting happenings taking place among the three friends, between Antara and Niranjan & between Niranjan and his brother kashinath( Pushkaraj Chirputkar). Through the character of most respectable Sridharpant, Manoj Joshi has tried to put forward the side of all those sincere priests, who are preserving the traditional culture of showing faith in God.

Wonderful Performances by all the leading artistes is the plus point of this film. In the role of Sridharpant Manoj Joshi is at his best. Deepti Devi finds good scope in this film and she finds good support from debutant Saurabh Gogate, who has performed well. Pushkaraj Chirputkar and Shubhankar Ekbote generate the required humour to entertain the audience. Music by Avinash Vishwajeet is fine .Pran Shirurkar’s camera work is impressive . Writer –director Harshavardhan does pass a timely social message through this film. ‘Mantr‘ does have some content to voice the opinion of a section of young generation, but it remains to be seen, how this subject would be accepted by the regular film lovers?

Nowadays a new trend has been set in Marathi film industry to launch the music and teaser together. This not only helps the filmmaker to reach out to the prospective audience but also promote his film in a right manner. Recently, Dreambook productions with the help of Vedarth Creations launched the music and teaser of their forthcoming Marathi film ‘Mantr’ in Mumbai, in presence of lead actors and media persons. Directed by debutant Harshavardhan this film presents a sensitive issue, where a son of a Hindu priest accepts the profession of his father, only to earn good money. But, when a girl who does not believe in rituals comes into his life, the story of this film takes a new turn.

Speaking on the occasion the director of this film said that he has presented the dilemma of today’s youth in understanding spirituality. He also appealed to all to watch this film in cinema theatres. The film stars Deepti Devi with debutant Saurabh Gogate in lead role. But, the film stars National award winner versatile actor  Padmashri Manoj Joshi in a prominent role. The other artistes of this film in supporting roles are Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Siddheshwar Zadbuke, Sunil Abhyankar, Dhiresh Joshi , Rajesh katkar, Shubhankar Ekbote , Sujay Jadhav, Vrushali katkar, Anuradha Marathe & Shubhangi Damle. The songs in this film with different genres are rendered by prominent singers Ajay Gogavle, Avadhoot Gupte, Rohit Raut,  Dhaval Chandvadkar & Vishwajeet Joshi on the music of Avinash- Vishwajeet. The film is all set for release on 13th April 2018.

Till last year, we knew her as popular television actress Deepti Shrikant Devi, who found place in the hearts of many television serial lovers, in Marathi as well as Hindi. But, ever since she changed her name to Deepti Devi, it has turned out to be lucky for her, to find lead roles in films.

Now, Deepti Devi has  not only found a prominent lead role through this Marathi film ‘Conditions Apply’, but has also found a creative director like Girish Mohite to exploit her acting potential on big screen.  Met Deepti during the press meet arranged by the makers of this film, to introduce the artistes of this film, besides unveiling the first look of the film. Dressed in white designer wear, she looked gorgeous with her charming smile, which added radiance to her slim and fit looks.

Excerpts from an exclusive interview :

Q: Tell us something about your educational background.
A: I have done my M.Com. and also done specialisation in graphic designing.

Q: How your specialisation in Graphic designing is helping you in your acting career ?
A: Well, it helps me in my creative thinking even in this field.

Q:  We understand that  this is a big opportunity for you in this film. Can we call this role of Radio Jockey, a major breakthrough in your acting career?
A: I wouldn’t say so, as it will be like giving a full stop to other characters played by me so far. Instead, I would say that it was a big opportunity for me, as far as the big screen is concerned. I would like to call it a turning point, which is more challenging.

Q: So, you feel that Films are going to help you a lot in exploiting your potential?
A: I feel that our Marathi films are known for good content, offering more scope for the artistes. Their visuals are strong and highly creative. In short, working in Films, is like exploring myself .

Q: How did you prepare yourself to play the character of Radio Jockey Swara Haldankar, in this film?
A:  Actually, this type of role needs lot of energy and therefore it was more challenging to perform this character. Script was not given to me. The director wanted every reaction from me to come spontaneously.  So,  I used to hear RJ Shonali of Radio City, before preparing for this role; but, did not copy her.

 Q: We understand that ‘Conditions Apply’ is also a love story of a young couple almost on the lines of the current trend set by few films released in the recent past. What do you think?

A: I feel that every writer or  director has to convey his subject in a different way. When you watch this film, you will notice the difference.

 Q: Do you yourself believe in ‘Live in relationship’ or ‘Proper Marriage’?
A: ‘Marriage’.
