Renowned director duo Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar made 17 Marathi films together and won various national and international accolades for their previous films like ‘Doghi’,‘Dahavi Fa’ , ‘Vastupurush’,‘Devrai’, ‘Samhita’ and ‘Astu’ (movie review). Two of these films were based on mental illness such as Schizophrenia and Alzimer’s disease. And they presented these two subjects very skilfully handling the subject with the support of Dr. Mohan Agashe himself a Psychiatrist, who was part of both these films.

In ‘Kaasav’ (कासव) we saw Dr. Mohan Agashe contributing in the form of a producer along with the film maker duo Bhave and Sukhtankar. This film has won the National award for the best feature film at the 64th National Film awards. Unfortunately, this film could not be released in a big way in theatres like other Marathi films, but was released recently on Sony Liv OTT platform, which has made it possible to reach out to the Marathi film lovers scattered all over the world.

‘Kaasav’ truly stands to the appreciation it received during the Golden Lotus National award for best feature film. The film’s story is presented in a beautiful cinematic way, to show the relevance of the issues of depression suffered by the youngster (Alok Rajwade) in the film, in relation to the life and nesting cycle of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles, being researched by Janaki (Iravati Harshe) a middle aged divorcee, who herself consults a psychologist for her panic attacks.

Shot at the beautiful beach location of Devgad in Sindhudurg district, the film captures some realistic moments to show, how this middle aged woman tries to treat the depressed youngster, by understanding his problems with the help of a local doctor. There are few other important characters in the form Yadu( Kishore Kadam) driver cum cook of Janaki, Dattabhau (Mohan Agashe) a local, who is working on an olive ridley sea turtles conservation project, Devika Daftardar ( short appearance) playing the step mother of the depressed youngster and others with their perfect Malvani accent, who provide very good support.

Beautiful cinematography by Dhananjay Kulkarni captures the beauty of Devgad beach, while Saket Kanetkar’s music provides good support to this artistic film with a timely message of showing the purpose of living life to a depressed youngster. Perfect editing by Mohit Takalkar has made this 104 minutes length film look very interesting. But, the overall credit goes to the director duo Sumitra Bhave – Sunil Sukhtankar for handling this difficult subject brilliantly with the help of Dr. Mohan Agashe, who has contributed his bit as an actor, but more as a producer. Certainly a worth watch film for all.

The teaser of much awaited Marathi film ‘Take Care Good Night‘ was released on Monday . The story of this film is written by Girish Joshi, which is based on a real life incident faced by his relative. Directed by Girish Joshi who is also making his debut as a director, ‘Take Care Good Night’ film is produced by Himanshu Patil and Mahesh Manjrekar with music by Narendra Bhide. The film stars Sachin Khedekar, Mahesh Manjrekar, Iravati Harshe, Aadinath Kothare and Parna Pethe and is set for release across the state of Maharashtra on August 31^st, 2018.

Actually, ‘Take Care Good Night‘ film’s theme consists of a city family fighting a cyber criminal who is threatening its stability and pride. There are problems, as the technologically handicapped father has to learn to overcome his fear of changing technology, while the mother needs to revisit her long-forgotten counselling skills, even as the daughter is compelled to open a channel of communication with her parents. All the answers are revealed in the story that examines the personal and social facets of a tech-driven lifestyle. So, in today’s time with technological advancement in every field and rise in cyber crimes, it will be interesting to watch a film on this subject.

Known for his literary contributions deeply rooted in Marathi language, late P.L Deshpande will always be remembered also for his humour filled speeches. From 8^th November 2018 his birth centenary year will be observed all over the world. To celebrate this occasion three film production companies namely, Mahesh Manjrekar Movies, Phalke’s factory – a film management Company and The Great Maratha Entertainment Company will be offering a biopic ‘Bhai- Vyakti Ki Valli‘ on this legendary actor- writer , which will be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. Sagar Deshmukh, whom we saw in the lead role in the Marathi film ‘YZ‘ 2 years ago, will be playing the title role in this film and Iravati Harshe will play his wife’s role.

An official announcement about ‘Bhai- Vyakti Ki Valli’ film was made in Mumbai yesterday evening, when MNS Chief Mr. Raj Thackeray gave the muhurat clap. Speaking on this occasion the well known cartoonist turned politician said, ” I expect this to be a grand film, almost of the level of Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’ .I have seen this film ‘Gandhi’ 150 times, while I was a student of Sir. JJ School of Art.So much I liked this film. And, I am confident that the director in Mahesh Manjrekar will give the best treatment to this film.” Incidentally, Mr. Raj Thackeray will also be holding his exhibition of cartoons on the life of Late P.L Deshpande next year, to pay him tributes on his birth centenary.

According to Mahesh Manjrekar, the film will be released on 4^th January 2019 to coincide with P.L Deshpande’s birth centenary year events. Besides P.L.Deshpande and Sunita Deshpande, this film will also present other important characters like Jawaharlal Nehru, Balasaheb Thackeray, Baba Amte, Bhimsen Joshi, Durga Bhagwat,Vasantrao Deshpande & Kumar Gandharva and these characters will be played by versatile artistes.
