Arundathi Nag returns to Marathi cinema after 40 years
National award winner Padmashree Arundathi Nag ( Formerly Arundhati Rao), who made her debut in Marathi films in 1979 through the film 22 June 1979, is returning to Marathi cinema after 40 years, through forthcoming Marathi film ‘Medium Spicy’. After her marriage to actor Kannada actor Shankar Nag Arundhati lived in Bangalore. She did perform later in Kannada, South and Hindi films and also theatre. And was also in touch with Marathi theatre and did watch Marathi plays staged at Rangshankara auditorium.
She has even watched the plays of ‘Medium Spicy’ director Mohit Takalkar whenever he used to stage his plays in Bangalore. During on such play, Mohit personally approached Arundhati with a request to perform an important role in his Marathi film . He felt that only she was best suitable to perform the important character Lakshmi Tipnis, a kind hearted intelligent lady. According to Mohit, it was necessary to create that impact with the entry of this character in the film.
Mohit further said that Arundhati is a wonderful actress . “Though she will be returning to Marathi films after 40 years, she has good command over Marathi language. What is more important is that she loves the language of a film and gets connected with the character with total commitment.”
Arundhati herself is all praise about Mohit’s work and has also appreciated actor Lalit Prabhakar who is part of this film.
