Legendary Playback Icon Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92, Nation Mourns a Musical Era
In a profound loss to Indian cinema and music, legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday(12th April 2026) afternoon at the age of 92. She breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital, where she had been undergoing treatment following a sudden deterioration in her health on April 11, 2026.
According to medical officials, the veteran singer had been admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering from a cardiac episode, chest infection, and extreme fatigue. Doctors later confirmed that she succumbed to multiple organ failure despite continued treatment.
A towering figure in Indian film music for over eight decades, Asha Bhosle was celebrated for her versatility, distinctive voice, and an unparalleled body of work spanning thousands of songs across languages and genres. Her demise marks the end of an era that defined generations of music lovers.
The news has triggered an outpouring of grief across the entertainment industry. Veteran actress Hema Malini and lots of Marathi Celebrities expressed deep sorrow, writing on social media.
Music composer duo Ajay- Atul also paid tribute, sharing a heartfelt message that read, “The hope of music has faded.” capturing the collective sentiment of millions of fans.
Her son, Anand Bhosle, informed that fans and well-wishers can pay their last respects at her residence from 11 AM on Monday. The final rites will be conducted at Shivaji Park at 4 PM.
In a rare and moving tribute, players and officials observed a two-minute silence at Wankhede Stadium ahead of the IPL 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Players from both teams wore black armbands, while some of her timeless songs echoed through the stadium, honoring her extraordinary legacy.

Nirmitee Sawant seeks help from Makarand Anaspure to improvise her new character in ‘Super Duperr’
Known for her variety of roles presented through many films in the past, Nirmitee Sawant is now playing a character of a woman from a village in her forthcoming film ‘Super Duperr’. To give her best through that character, Nirmitee with the permission of her director Sameer Asha Patil, approached versatile actor Makarand Anaspure , to understand the perfect pronunciation of the village based language. And, this has helped her a lot.
Nirmitee herself has admitted this, before the release of this film. Speaking about her character in this film, she said, “I am playing this character of a woman from a village, whose lifestyle is well suited to that place. So, I wanted to be perfect with my diction, while speaking this language and therefore took help from Makarand Anaspure, whose roots are from a village.”
This entertaining film which is presented by Zee Studios and produced by Ninety Nine Productions and Siddhivinayak Productions will be released on 3rd April 2026.
