Replacement of characters in the TV serials is very common these days. But, when the main character is replaced, it certainly creates confusion among the regular TV viewers. Last month we saw disappearance of Mrunal Dusanis from the ongoing popular TV serial ‘Assa Sasar Surekh Bai‘ on Colors channel. Her character of Jui is now played by Sayali Patil, but her regular admirers are finding it difficult to watch this serial without Mrunal.

We find hundreds of messages pouring in from her fans on her social networking page. They have all expressed that they are missing her the most. Undoubtedly, Mrunal Dusanis has been the most popular television actress and besides her performance in ongoing TV serial ‘Assa Sasar Surekh Bai’ , she had won the hearts of millions of home viewers, with her past performances in serials like ‘Majhiya Priyala Preet Kalena ‘ and ‘Tu Tithe Mee‘.

Mrunal herself has not replied to their comments. Instead, she has been displaying her photos with her husband, who lives in USA and also sharing some videos of ‘Chala hava Yeu Dya‘ comedy show, which seems to be her favourite programme.

It may be recalled that after her marriage, there were already talks going on that Mrunal would soon join her husband; but, everyone felt that she would do so after the end of this serial. However, there seems to be no possibility of this serial coming to an end so soon. Finally, we saw Mrunal herself saying ‘Good Bye’ to this serial. Does that mean that she has said ‘Good Bye’ to acting? Or she has taken a break ? Only Mrunal can answer this question. Speak up… Mrunal. Your fans are eagerly waiting for your decision.

There have been many films made, on Gangsters in Mumbai. Three years ago, there was a film ‘Shootout at Wadala’, which was based on middle class graduate turned gangster of Mumbai Manohar alias Manya Surve. John Abraham had played his character  in this film. The film presented detailed story  of this gangster, showing his final encounter with Mumbai police.

Now, producer Udaydada Lad and director Sushrut Bhagwat have made a film ‘Mumbai Time-A revenge Story’ which is based on another qualified youngster turned gangster,  Amar Bhargav Surve. The film has declared in the beginning of the film that no character in this film resembles any person dead or alive.  Also,  the director of the film has denied that the character of Amar has any  relationship with late Manya Surve. But,  the crime records available on internet, show that Manya Surve had a step brother , Bhargav dada, who was also a gangster.

In the film, there is a character of Bhargav dada( Played by Sanjay Mone) , who is shown as the father of lead character Amar ( Umesh Kamat). He is shown returning from jail, to begin his business, as a bar owner. In the film, Amar’s mother( Ashwini Ekbote) encourages her son to take up a good job, after completing his education. And, Amar does try for the same, being an intelligent youngster. But, his father’s name and his past comes in the way of his getting good job. One day, Amar goes out with his friend( Advait Dadarkar) and when his friend is being attacked by local goon Ravdya ( Kishore Chougule) belonging to notorious gangster Anna( Deepak Shirke), he intervenes and injures Ravdya. Later, Amar surrenders before the police. But, ravdya takes revenge, by killing Amar’s parents.

At this stage of this film, we see the beginning of the revenge story, with Amar joining the Khan ( Ramesh Bhatkar) gang, pleasing Khan,  by eliminating the members of  Anna gang, one by one, using his skills. His father’s right hand( Rahul Mehendale) also joins Amar, in this revenge drama. But, the right hand of  Khan – Dattu Fighter( Rahul Gore) , is unable to bear the closeness of the film’s hero with Khan and he keeps on playing his dirty tricks.

There is a special Police officer Mr. Inamdar ( Mahesh Manjrekar) called from Nagpur to stop the Gangwar, but instead of solving the case, he wastes his time playing chess and drinking tea with Amar. No freehand is given to his character.  Similarly, Mrunal Dusanis, who plays Amar’s girlfriend, keeps on supporting Amar, even in his shoot out revenge story.  Towards the end of the film, we find Dattu Fighter  swearing for revenge; though all members of Anna gang including his chief are eliminated. In the climax, we clearly find a clue being given, that the sequel of this film will be made, by the makers of this film to go with the present trend.

‘Mumbai Time’ has lot of resemblance to many past Bollywood films on gangsters, including recently released film ‘Dagadi Chawl’, especially the concluding part. There is lot of violence in the film, with firing of bullets in most of the scenes. Umesh Kamat has played his role convincingly. Good support comes from Ramesh Bhatkar, Sanjay Mone, Deepak Shirke, Ashwini Ekbote, Mrunal Dusanis,Kishore Chougule and others.  The character of Police officer played by Mahesh Manjrekar is not well defined in the film, which goes on to show that police have been given less importance in this gangster dominated film. Even the character of a school master, is just for name sake in the film.

Technically, the film is well made, with good editing work by Rajesh Rao and well captured photography by Ajith Reddy.  Ashok Patki & Yogita Chitale have provided well suited  music, to few songs in this film. All in all, the filmmaker has been able to create an atmosphere of Gang Wars in Mumbai, during 80s, with some of the  dialogues in Hindi, especially,  those uttered by the character of Ramesh Bhatkar and few others. Only those, who love to watch action films, on such subjects, may like this film. The film could have been more gripping and entertaining.

After achieving success through his Super hit mythological serial ‘Jai Malhar’ on Zee Marathi, Producer director Mahesh Kothare is now all set to offer his next mythological serial ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’, which will be telecast this time on Colors Marathi channel. This will be much bigger project, cost wise, than the previous serial, as the set cost of this serial has touched around 1.75 Crore. Even otherwise, while offering a serial based on mythology, there is lot of cost on art design, costumes and special effects and the well known film maker, has accepted all these challenges. Having gained a lot of experience through ‘Jai Malhar’, this time, we expect something big from him.

‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ will be telecast from Tuesday 24th November 2015 at 8.30 pm from Monday to Saturday. Since, this serial is based on mythology ,with more emphasis on Mother –son relationship, it will be interesting to see the events involving Parvati and Ganesha. With women and children likely to shift to this serial, Zee Marathi’s ‘Majhe Pati Soubhagyavati’ will face a tough competition, at prime time 8.30 pm.

Actually, this serial witnesses overacting from Vaibhav Mangle, especially in his original male appearance, in all those scenes of excessive drinking in the company of friends and later abusing others. Even otherwise, Vaibhav Mangle taking his hair dresser for granted, to use her house, for his change over, that too in absence of her husband, looks odd and unconvincing.

Incidentally, Colors have also started an entertaining reality show for housewives, ‘Aamchya Gharaat Suunbai Joraat’, anchored by Harish Dudhade (‘Majhe Mann Tujhe Jhale’ fame).With new team games for housewives, the show is likely to compete with Aadesh Bhauji’s ‘Home Minister’ on Zee Marathi. After dismal show in the initial episodes, their comedy show ‘Aali Lahar kela kahar’ seem to have shown some improvisation, taking up the local issues of Mumbaikars and especially Marathi people, through the skits in the recent episodes. But, in ‘Asa Sasar Surekh Bai’, they need to include some interesting happenings, rather than stretching on the problems faced by Yash’s uncle and his family. But, the saving grace of this serial is Mrunal Dusanis, whose presence on the screen, makes the viewers happy.

It is better not to talk much about ‘Star Pravah’ serials. It is high time, they replace their old serials, with outdated subjects with new offerings. Now, they are also facing competition from  who have also started showing serials on social issues with better subjects, that too at prime time. And, we have already covered them last time.

Your character of Shamika in the show ‘Mazhiya Priyala Preet Kalena’ is catching on. What do you feel is the reason?
– I feel the character of a simple innocent and a bit naive girl who totally loves her parents and is family oriented with the girl next door values made the viewers identify with her and touched a chord somewhere. It is my first stint in television and I am learning new things everyday especially the technicalities which are so important. Previously I had done only experimental theater in my home town Nashik but this television stint was something new to me and I am enjoying it. Mrunal Dusanis, Shamika Photo
How was your experience working with the rest of the cast?
– My co-star Abhijeet is from my hometown too and I kind of know him from my experimental theater days where we acted together.So I share a comfort level with him. Other senior actors on the show like Suhita Thatte, Sanjay Mone, Amita Khopkar,have taken me under their wings and make things easier for me and I am very thankful to them for that.
Ekta Kapoor is the undisputed queen of television. Does she give her reactions to your show?
Yes. Ekta madam regularly is in touch with me and has always complemented me on my acting stint and has been encouraging me a lot.

How has the journey from Nasik to Mumbai been?
It has been a very good journey starting from overnight trips for my theater work and now I am firmly settled in Mumbai for a career in the entertainment industry. Even otherwise, Mumbai has been kind to me with a premier channel like ZEE MARATHI offering me a prime time show.
