Summer vacation is the right time to exploit the hidden talent in children. And, if there is any workshop which would entertain them, it is Drama workshop. Marathi actresses Madhura Velankar and Rujuta Deshmukh have come forward to conduct one such Drama workshop for children between 17^th and 29^th April 2017. It will be held at Sathye College, which is a hub for cultural activities.

Both Madhura Velankar and Rujuta Deshmukh have been associated with acting field for the past 18 years and they conducted their first such workshop in the 2015, which received overwhelming response. At that time, they had to take an extra batch. Now, keeping this demand in mind, this time, their workshop will be split into three sessions. Besides Madhura and Rujuta, Madhura Velankar‘s mother Rajani Velankar and renowned choreographer Deepali Vichare will also be associated in conducting this workshop.

‘तू माझा सांगाती ‘ या मालिकेमध्ये आवलीची भूमिका करणे तसे आव्हानात्मक आहे. तुकाराम हे स्वभावाने अगदी साधे, विठोबाच्या भक्तीमध्ये स्वत:ला झोकून टाकलेले असे आणि अगदी त्याविरुध्द आवली… “आवली हि स्वभवाने स्पष्टव्यक्ती तसेच व्यवहारी अशी होती अश्याप्रकारची भूमिका निभावण हे खरच खूप आव्हानात्मक आहे पण मी या भूमिकेला पूर्णपणे न्याय देण्याचा प्रयत्न करणार आहे “, असे ऋजुता देशमुख म्हणाली. ऋजुता ‘सावर रे’ या मालिकेनंतर तब्बल तीन वर्षांनंतर छोट्या पडद्यावर पुन्हा येत आहे. त्यामुळे प्रेक्षकांना आपल्या लाडक्या ऋजुताला एका नव्या आणि वेगळ्याच भूमिकेत बघायला नक्कीच आवडेल यात शंका नाही.

Actress Shilpa Navalkar , who had turned a playwright with her Marathi play ‘Selfie‘ , has proved successful as a writer, as her play has presented 100 shows. But, the good news for her, is that the rights of this play have been purchased by Paritosh Painter, for its remake in Hindi and English. The English version of this play will be staged soon, which will be directed by Tanaaz Irani and will star Tanaaz Irani, Dimple Shah, Shweta Gulati, Priya Malik & Kiswar Merchant. Joy Singh Gupta has translated this play into English, but the subject of this play having an universal appeal, it can work in any language. The original Marathi play directed by Ajit Bhure, had staged this play in USA for almost one month. Now, the play ‘Selfie‘  will be nearing the mark of 125 shows.

Reacting to this good news, writer Shilpa Navalkar has expressed her happiness, over staging of her play in English. “I feel, all the people should watch this play” she said. It ,may be recalled that another Marathi writer Bharat Dabholkar has also been successful in English with his plays like ‘Bottoms Up‘, ‘Carry On Heaven‘ & ‘Blame It On Yashraj‘ . We only hope that Shilpa also follows his footsteps.

Her father Avinash Deshmukh, who owned a theatre company, gave Rujuta her first break as a child artiste, when she was studying in 4th standard.
Rujuta then played the role of Rajaram, in the historical play ‘Raigadala Jhevha Jaag Yete’.
She has worked in the company of popular artistes like Alka Kubal and likes. Rujuta is a graduate with English Literature from Pune’s prestigious S.P. College, which is also known as a temple of Marathi artistes

‘Aabhalmaya’ was one such serial on Marathi television, which won the hearts of all age groups, 16 years ago. Recently, the team members of this serial came together, to celebrate their happy memories. All those who were present, remembered late Vinay Apte , who had directed this serial. Mr. Achyut Vaze the producer of this serial, who had designed the concept, briefed the future plans of his production house ‘One Tree Media’ , which was expanding into other fields of entertainment, including films.

Many child artists of this serial have today matured, performing variety of roles . And, Pari Telang is one of them. Even otherwise, this serial has offered many talented artists to Marathi entertainment industry, who have become versatile actors. Mr. Vaze also stated that there was a big demand from the home viewers to revive the subject of ‘Aabhalmaya’, as they felt very much attached to the characters and their close association with each other. Her memorable performance in another popular serial ‘Kalat Nakalat’ and her emotion filled role of a blind girl in another serial ‘Goshta Eka Anandichi’ goes on to say a lot about her potential as an actress. Two years ago, she has also proved her dancing skills in a TV reality show, suggesting that as an actress, she was ready for all challenges. Rujuta took time off to have a chit chat with Marathi Movie world. Excerpts from the chit chat.

Q: What are your memories about ‘Abhalmaya’, your first major exposure on small screen?
A: Yes, it was a great moment, which is very difficult to describe in words. Being a part of this popular soap on a popular private channel, gave a nice feeling. I cannot forget that character of Pallavi.

Q: You were also part of another popular serial ‘Damini’. How was that feeling ?
A: Again it was a happy moment to be a part of this big serial and playing Dr. Esha in the concluding part and that too in the company of great stars like Sanjay Mone , Sukanya, Uday Sabnis and others.

Q: You have also worked in one big banner Hindi film. Isn’t it ?
A: Yes, it was in Rajkumar Santoshi’s film ‘Family’.

Q: Wasn’t that a great experience too? How were you selected for that role?
A: Yes, it was a memorable moment in my life and also wonderful experience to be part of this film, as there was also good scope for my character, being an important member of a Sahai family. About playing this role, he just spoke to me and asked about my availability. And, that’s how I was selected. I was literally thrilled, as I had to perform few scenes also with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.

Q: How was your personal experience, working with a big star like him ?
A: He is a great actor and hence getting a chance to perform with him itself was a great moment in my life. After I gave my first day shot, I went and sat in one corner watching some of his scenes filled with emotions. He was simply a master in that. After his shot, I never noticed him going into his vanity van. Instead he sat on one side, watching others perform. That displayed his modesty. But, when I crossed him in the corridor during the break, he addressed me with my first name and exchanged pleasantries. I was overwhelmed with this gesture from a great actor like him.
