Today, we are watching him as Suhas, the husband of whimsical and adamant woman Priya, in Zee Marathi’s marathon serial ‘Tu tithe Mee’. But, through ‘Tu tithe Mee’, he has established his identity as a young TV star.

Sachin Suresh, began his relationship with Marathi stage, with his association through ‘Awishkar Group’, when he assisted Veteran Arun kakade and writer- director Chetan Datar in their plays. Earlier, during his college days, he was associated with Vishwas Sohni. Having gained considerable experience backstage, it was not difficult for Sachin to take a crucial decision of joining this field full time, as a career.

Marathi Movie world, spoke to this talented actor, to know more about his acting career.

Q: Was it a difficult decision to opt for acting career ?
A: Not at all. But, like any Maharashtrian youngster, after completing my college, I too took up a job and was simultaneously associated with stage, during my free time. Being a merit holder in Software Engineering, I also took up a job in a bank. But, I could not focus on my job. So, I decided to quit the job and joined full time, with Awishkar group. Though my parents opposed initially, I had made up my mind. I feel that one should join a profession, where there is 100% work satisfaction.

Q: So, it was a risk you took in your life.
A: Yes, there was a risk. But, my self confidence enabled me to take up challenges. But, I would certainly like to mention few names like Mr. Hemant Deodhar and Rajeev Sawant, whom I treat my gurus, in this profession.

Q: You are also associated with your other hobbies. Isn’t it ?
A: Yes, in the past, I played radio jockey for Worldspace Satellite Radio, almost for three years. I used to work for 4 hours day. But, for this, I had to do a lot of reading. I also worked as a dubbing artiste. Till now, I have done dubbing for about 80 Marathi films.

Q: So, what are your present hobbies, besides acting?
A: At present, I am on the job of transcription of an English film into Marathi. Similarly, a job of Tamil transcription into Marathi. As an Anchor, I am presenting a musical programme of talented blind people ‘Akhiyon Ke Jharokonse’. Please do watch this programme and encourage this talented group.

Q: You have assisted many well known directors in their projects. Don’t you feel like directing a project independently ?
A: Yes, having worked as an assistant to some reputed directors, I have gained considerable experience. Surely, I look forward to such an opportunity in near future.

Q: Haven’t you tried your luck at Hindi or Marathi films?
A: Frankly speaking, I don’t even know when and where such auditions are held. I am so busy and committed to work in hand. I also keep myself away from parties. I have no bad habits like smoking or drinking. Whatever work comes to me, I do it sincerely.

“I am a great fan of my father” – Amol Bawdekar

Today he is looked upon as the most dubious bad man on Marathi television screen. His portrayal of kedar in ongoing Marathi serial ‘Radha Hi Bavari’ on Zee Marathi has already invited adverse reactions of female viewers. But, in reality, Amol is a thorough gentleman. Best quality about him is that he is Soft spoken and modest. And, you quickly notice these qualities in him, when you meet him for the first time. Meeting Amol during the drama show of ‘Aamhi Sou Kumud Prabhakar Apte’ was a coincident. He had come along with his team of ‘Radha Hi Bavari’, as a special invitee, to watch this inaugural show at Prabodhankar Thackeray Auditorium; as the director Viren being the common factor.

When asked about an interview for Marathi Movie World, he agreed to meet the next day, being sunday; at his residence. So, on Sunday morning I walked into his spacious big house at Borivali, where his parents had lived for past several years. A big display board outside his house, clearly indicated that a female member of his family was a doctor. On entering his well decorated house, also suggested the choice of an interior designer in Amol. Then, Cherry, a sweet little Lowchen pet dog craved for my affection, till I reciprocated. Taking a glance around the house, I found musical instruments kept in one corner of the drawing room, with portrait size photographs of his father Suhas Bawdekar displayed on the side wall. Soon, Amol steps in, with a broad smile on his face to welcome me and quickly ordering his kitchen help to get tea and biscuits.

amol-bawdekar-tv-actor-interviewSpotting me gaze at his father’s photographs, he begins with his background. “My father was passionate about music. That’s how, music has come to me. ‘I am a great fan of my father, Late Suhas Bawdekar’. Today, I am missing him the most. 5 years ago, he passed away, due to heart attack. Like me, he had also studied from Sir J.J. School of Arts and later developed passion for music. Besides designing sets for Dramas, he also provided music for plays. His mastery in art could be noticed with his work. Once, he had erected a huge replica of Siddhi Vinayak temple with minute details, during the Ganapati festival at Dattapada. It received a lot of appreciation from media ,” he explained.

Amol had lot to convey about his father, who had been almost his mentor in the field of music. He had seen his multifaceted personality, very closely. “I have witnessed My father’s musical baithaks going on non stop for hours. He had the ability to perform from 11 pm till 4 am in the morning, his solo vocal performance, with the help of 2 -3 musicians. His rangolis were appreciated by one and all. To say something about his art work, the logo of a tiger of Shiv Sena was drawn by him, when late Balashaeb Thackeray launched Shiv Sena. Even the design of ‘Samna’ newspaper letters, were his creation. He was that close to Balasaheb; but didn’t expect anything in return,” said Amol, while showing some of his artistic collections. He was more vocal about a beautiful small replica of Lord Vitthal, which was specially presented to him by his father.

But, what brought you into acting field? “I don’t know. It just happened,” he quipped. “It could have been inherited from My Grand Uncle C.V.Bawdekar, who was the first secretary and founder member of Sahitya Sangh Mandir. He was close to famous personalities like late Prabodhankar Thackeray, Acharya Atre and Jyotirbhaskar Salgaonkar.” said Amol.

Talking about the other members of his family, Amol introduced his mother, who is a practising Physiotherapist and had just returned from her clinic. His little son, who also returned with his grandmother, also gave a light smile and took the agile pet Cherry inside his room. When inquired about other members of his family, Amol said, “My wife is also a Doctor- a Skin Specialist and a dietician and I have a son, whom you saw just now.”

Then, talking about his stage career, he recalled his first break, offered by Late Mohan Wagh, who had always given scope to newcomers. “He selected me to sing for his play ‘Aamhi Jagato Befaam’. But, my acting debut came through Kedar Shinde’s “Turtur’ in 1994, when I was selected to play the character of a Bengalee, which was earlier played by Prashant Damle. There was good scope for singing in this play; but, I was not confident about acting. However, Kedar was confident about me. He offered training during rehearsals and I was fortunate to perform with all those top stars of today, for next 1 and half year,” he explained.
In 1996-97, it was time for Amol to launch his own production ‘Shreeman Yogi’. “It was on a big scale with an initial investment of Rs. 5 lakhs”. “I hosted 110 shows at different places in Maharashtra. The income was not much and we had 35 artistes performing in it; but, it certainly gave me satisfaction of offering something of my own. My real test came in 1999, when Mr. Panshikar invited me to play the lead role of Sadashiv in his play ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusali’, followed by offer from Vijay Gokhale’s ‘Reshimgathi’. Till date , I have performed in 22 plays and 10 serials,” he added.

Talking about the contrast characters played by him in the recent past, Amol described how he used to prepare for presenting his characters. “When I was playing the characters of saints in serials like ‘Kripasindhu’ and ‘Sant Tukaram’, I used to think only about their characters, before leaving home for shooting on that particular day, to get the feel of those roles.” But, when asked as to how he felt playing the role of Kedar, he smiled and admitted that he was playing a whimsical character with a negative shade. “Yes, I am playing a bad man and do receive messages from women asking me to stop playing such characters. Even my mother doesn’t like my character in this serial. But, when you receive such reactions from women folks, I consider it as a compliment,” he reacts.

We have seen many performances of Kedar in TV serials and Marathi plays. We have also seen him giving his best in Music reality shows; but, now we are looking forward to watch him play an important character in a feature film. It could be a Marathi film or even a Hindi film. He is all set to grab the attention of film makers, with his negative role of Kedar in ‘Radha Hi Bavari’.When you suggest this to him, he smiles and quietly reacts.”Yes, there are two three films, for which talks are on. Hope, it works,” he concludes.

“My hobby turned into passion for acting” – Chinmay Udgirkar

As an actor, he has been performing in experimental theatre for the past seven years. But, his debut serial ‘Swapnanchya Palikadle’ in lead role, brought him name and fame. In the recent past Chinmay Udgirkar, the talented actor from Nashik, who was part of a Theatre Group Genius, has performed in many experimental plays and was also part of serials like ‘Raja Shiv Chhatrapati’ & ‘Mann Udhaan Varyache’. Chinmay has also made his film debut with latest released film ‘Shyamche Vadil’ in which he plays a young 22 year old protagonist, who is a Rock singer. Marathi Movie World spoke to Chinmay, to know more about his acting career.

Chinmay UdgirkarWhile in school and college, Chinmay used to perform on stage, just as a hobby. But, after winning the prizes for his performance; he himself doesn’t remember when exactly his hobby turned into passion. Today, Chinmay has gone through all the three areas of acting; i.e. stage, television and now films. His role of Shyam in ‘Shyamche Vadil’ has offered him a right platform for his entry into Big screen. Speaking about his selection for this role, Chinmay says that Mr. Ajay Pathak, who was creative head of his serial, had this idea in mind, to make a film. “When he turned Producer and decided to make this film, he selected me for this role, as he had seen my work and was impressed with me,” he ads.

Chinmay Udgirkar

Chinmay feels that hard work and sincerity is very important in any profession, you opt for. “I exactly did that and tried to give my 100%. “While I was doing theatre, I not only performed on stage; but, was also part of back stage work and even selling tickets of the show at the window, whenever required. May be this commitment and sincerity, enabled me to find my roles in serials and film,” he stated.

Chinmay’s favourite actors are Tom Hanks and Aamir Khan; but as far as idol is concerned, there is none who has really inspired him. Since the time, he became serious about acting profession, he has been on his own. When asked to comment on Reality show, he preferred to avoid comments, as he felt that it was a different field.

In the recent past, there were news floating about his close links with actress Mrunal Dusanis. When asked to comment on this close friendship, Chinmay was frank enough to comment, stating “Both of us are very good friends for past few years, since we belonged to the same theatre group and have been always supporting each other in this city of Mumbai. This does not mean that people should start linking up our good relationship for something else. We are just good friends,” he concludes.

Shreya Bugade, Actress

“I am lucky to find all good hearted people in the field of acting” – Shreya Bugde

She has done her schooling from a Convent School in Mumbai and she graduated from Mithibai College with a cosmopolitan culture. Having done her stage in other languages like English, Hindi and Gujarathi, she has not forgotten her roots with Marathi language. Shreya Bugde is a TV Luminary today, with three of her shows being aired on TV, at present. Besides her role of Manjusha Holkar, she is playing a College Professor in ETV’s ‘Majhe Mann Tujhe Jhale’ and also giving glimpse of her variety in acting, through Zee Marathi’s reality comedy show ‘Fu Bai Fu’, in the company of another talented actor Hemant Dhome.

Shreya Bugade, ActressAt the young age of 26, Shreya has gained more than 13 years of experience in acting, as she began her acting career as a child actress on stage. Marathi Movie World spoke to this brilliant actress, who promptly responded to our call, exhibiting the best public relations she maintains, in this competitive field.

Q Going through your work experience in brief, we find that you have done a lot of stage in different languages. When did you actually begin ?
A: Actually, my first performance on stage was at the age of 8, when I took part in a competition, while in school. Later, with the timely encouragement from parents, I started performing in children’s theatre. Then, as a child artiste I became part of the famous Marathi play on child abuse – ‘Vatevarti Kacha Ga’, which performed 275 shows.

Q: What were your other projects on stage?
A: ‘Medha’ and ‘Zoombish’ in English, were directed by Ramu Ramanathan, ‘Jantarmantar’ in Gujarathi, which did 250 shows and then there was ‘Pramay’ also in Gujarathi, in which I performed at NCPA festival last year. ‘Missed Calls’ was a mono act. ‘Rabdi’ the Hindi one act play won 13 best actress awards in inter collegiate competitions. In short, it was a good stage experience for me.

Q: You have also done television in Hindi . Isn’t it ?
A: Not only Hindi; but I have also done Gujarathi television, besides Marathi serials. For the past ten years I have done ‘Karamyudh’(DD national), ‘Thoda Hai, Bas thode ki Zaroorat hai’ and ‘Bairi Piya’ ( for Colors), besides ‘Tuzhyavina’ (Zee Marathi), ‘Lek Ladki Hya Gharchi’ (ETV Marathi), ‘Mandala Don Ghadicha Daav’ (Star Pravah). Presently, I am doing ‘Tu tithe Mee’ (Zee Marathi), ‘Majhe Mann Tujhe Jhale’ ( E TV) and ‘Fu Bai Fu’ reality show on Zee Marathi .

Q: But, your role in ‘Tu tithe Mee’ invited all the attention, in spite of many other popular artistes around. What’s your reaction?
A: Yes, my character of Manjusha Holkar has given me an opportunity to play the same character in two different ways. Though earlier, playing the wife of Dada Holkar under the shadow of Milind Shinde, it was like constantly moving under fear, covering my half face with Saree ; but now, they have given me enough scope to communicate with different characters. Performing in the company of Milind Shinde itself was a big thing. This actor is an institution in himself.

Q: How do you look at the change that has come in the entertainment industry? Do you think that it is the right place for young girls to make their career?
A: Today, there is a good scope for artistes. It does not matter, whether you are talented or not; there is work for all. Some people have always spoken about ‘Casting Couch’ existing in this profession; but, I have not experienced any such thing. May be, I am lucky to find all good hearted people in this field of acting, so far.

Q: Being a talented and good looking actress, don’t you regret that you have not been offered lead roles, so far ?
A: Sometime back, I had this feeling in my mind. And, while working with a senior artiste like Neena Kulkarni, I expressed this to her. What she advised me, was very important. According to her, there was nothing like lead role and character role. How you perform your role with total conviction, is important. “I have not played lead roles so far; but I am still existing in this field, with offers coming in,” she said. Soon, I realised that there were many such artistes, who performed lead roles in serials; but later, we never noticed them on small screen. I am lucky that there are roles coming to me, no matter, they are not lead roles.

Q: You are also part of the TV show ‘Fu Bai Fu’, which offers below the belt comedy. How you landed up there?
A: Yes, sometimes it is ‘below the belt’ comedy. It all depends upon the script. But, an artiste performing in this show, finds a lot of variety. Now, the hosts have even given the liberty to the performing pair to present their own scripts and my co artiste Hemant Dhome works on it. When we began, he was not much aware of my ability. But, when in the second episode we were judged the best performers of the day, he realised my potential and now we are doing well, with perfect understanding.

Q: Besides the ongoing three projects, are there any other projects in pipeline ?
A: Yes, I am going perform in a Marathi drama soon. But, I don’t want to discuss the details now. There is also a film with a different subject; but it will be too early to comment, as the shooting is yet to begin.

Q: How you will be able to manage your schedule, with so many assignments at a time?
A: No, I will not be overworking. It’s all planned. The schedule of ‘Tu Tithe Mee’ is going on well for the past 16 months. For ‘Fu Bai Fu’, I have to give two days a week. So, there is always time for Drama and films.

Shreyas Talpade

“I have not yet achieved, what I want” – Shreyas Talpade

After offering Sanai Choughade’ his first Marathi production, Shreyas Talpade is getting ready to launch his second Marathi production ‘Poshter Boyz’. Recently, the news also spread about his signing Marathi’s first Superhero film ‘Baji’. Looking at his keen interest to promote Marathi films, besides being busy in Bollywood, Marathi Movie World spoke to Shreyas Talpade, to find out the details of his future plans. Excerpts from an interview:

Shreyas TalpadeQ: After ‘Sanai Choughade’, it has taken five years for you, to launch your second Marathi film. Why, so much time?
A: This gap was not deliberate. While producing our first film, we really enjoyed every moment and decided to produce more films. Actually, we were in search of a good story. In the meanwhile, I was also busy with my assignments with Hindi films. One day, Sameer met me for some other work. While talking, he mentioned about a script which was with him. I asked him to narrate the same and liked it. Thereafter, we worked on screenplay and dialogues and got ready with the final script. Then we spent some time deciding on the artistes and blocking their dates. I am very passionate about my work, be it acting or managing my production. I would like to involve myself, in every department to see as to who is taking care of camera, costumes, editing etc. After all, I am a student of film making.

Q: What is ‘Poshter Boyz’ all about ?
A: It’s a story of three characters, who come from three different backgrounds and age group. One of them is Dilip Prabhawalkar , who is playing an old man. Then, Hrishikesh Joshi is a middle aged character and the third one is Aniket Vishwasrao. Basically, all three of them are not connected to each other; but, they get into trouble in one varied situation; and how they fight together with the system , is all that this film has tried to tell.

Q: So, the characters have no connection with the film industry?
A: Not at all. When you see the film, you will agree that the title is justified for this story.

Q: Who is the directing of ‘Poshter Boyz’?
A: Sameer Patil is taking care of direction. He has already assisted Chandrakant Kulkarni for many plays, serial and films. He is also a good actor himself. I have worked with him in Pimpalpan‘.

Q: Is there any chance to see you in ‘Poshter Boyz’?
A: As of now, I haven’t decided , whether I’m doing any guest appearance. Let’s see. During making, If we feel the script demands, then definitely. But, there will be one surprise element in one song of Poshter Boyz’, for sure . May be, if not through visual, then vocal for sure.

Q: You have done many films with superstars from Bollywood. So, are you also inviting anyone of them for guest appearance in ‘Poshter Boyz’?
A: Yes, I will definitely try. There are couple of scenes, where we were thinking something like that. If our team feels so, then I will definitely try to invite them for a guest appearance.

Q: When is ‘Poshter Boyz’ going on floors?
A: In January 2014, we will start the shooting and release is planned for July 2014.

Q: Who is the actress in the ‘Poshter Boyz’?
A: There is Pooja Sawant, Neha Joshi & Dyanada Chembuerkar. Besides them, you will see Uma Sardeshmukh, Suhas Paranjape..

Q: You are also playing a Super hero in Indian Magic Eye and Dar Motion pictures’ upcoming Marathi film ‘Baji’?
A: Yes, in that film, I am performing lead role. It’s very interesting action story. This might be the first film of its kind in Marathi industry .

Q: You have worked with many top actors in Bollywood, How was your overall experience?
A: It was fantastic! I have learnt a lot from each one of them. Maximum, I have learned from Shaharukh. I have observed him very closely, while working on ‘Om Shanti Om’. He gets totally involved as an actor as well as producer. During production, he thinks very clearly, about the post production and marketing . Therefore, I feel that as a Producer, one should take care of each and every thing. The kind of person I’m today, is all because of my interaction with such hard working people.

Q: Some of our Marathi actors do not have a very good experience of working in Bollywood. What’s your say?
A: So far, I haven’t come across anything like that. If you are looking at that industry, it’s not that 100% are their mistakes, some where we are also wrong in some percent. I think it’s a fair industry; which is always accommodating all . You have to go there and work . Recently, someone asked me, ki ‘Ab Marathi production bhi kar rahe ho, acting bhi kar rahe ho.. to ab hindi kum karonge ya chod denge?’ That time I said, “Are you married ? Aap shadi se pehale mummy ko gift dete the ?” He said ‘yes’. “So have you stopped gifting your mummy after marriage?” He said “No”, Correct!. It’s as simple as that. You know what I mean? Some people thought, after entering into Hindi film industry, Shreyas won’t work in Marathi. It wasn’t like that.. If you observed, after Iqbal, I have done two Marathi films . ‘Aaishappat’ and ‘Bayo’. But after that, whatever scripts came to me, were all similar. I’m willing to do Marathi films, I’m willing to contribute in my way. But, get me something interesting, I’ll do it.

Q: Then, what was so special in ‘Baji’ to invite your attention ?
A: Basically, it’s a super hero theme. High- action adventures, hidden treasures, mistaken identities and all that. So, it’s a huge responsibility with great expectation. But, I am willing to take that chance. If you look at my filmography , on one side, I have done a film like Iqbal, and other side I did a films like ‘Apana Sapna Money Money’ and ‘Welcome to Sajjanpur’ . So, I never get worried about film’s budget and all. Whatever appeals to me, I have done it. Sometimes its works, sometime not.

Q. Have you seen Nikhil’s first film ‘Pune 52′ ?
A: Yes. I saw the film. It’s a parallel cinema and he has done the film very stylishly.

Q: Finally, How do you define a success?
A: It is something subjective to each one. I feel, it also depends, what are your priorities in life. What is it, you want to achieve? Some want to only earn money, some want work satisfaction, while some want both. If you ask me, I have not achieved, what I want. . Because, there is a lot that I want to achieve in this field. As I said, the industry has given me so much. I look at someone like Sachin Tendulkar, Mr. Bachchan, for inspiration. What these people have done, is unbelievable. There cannot be another Sachin Tendulkar or Amitabh Bachchan; something like that.

Sushant Shelar

“My struggle is still going on” – Sushant Shelar

Sushant Shelar has been in the field of acting, since his school days. So, among the youngsters of today’s Marathi entertainment industry, he has acquired considerable experience, for the past twenty years. He did his first commercial play in 1992, when he was in 7th standard. The very next year, he made his debut as a child artiste in a film and a TV serial ‘Mayur Pankh’ .

Till now, Sushant has won best supporting actor award for his film ‘Picnic’. Marathi Movie world spoke to this talented actor. Excerpts from an interview.
Q: We understand that you have gone through a lot of struggle in your field. Any memories of the past happenings?
A: Actually, I enjoyed that period. Surviving the days on Vada Paav …. even today, when I recollect this period ,I feel happy. And, I am sure, many like me, have gone through this stage.Sushant Shelar
Q: Watching you perform variety of roles today, in films; don’t you feel that in spite of possessing talent, it took a long time for you to establish yourself? A: There is nothing like that. Actually, even today, my struggle in going on.

Q: According to you, what is the reason for success of ‘Duniyadari’ ?
A: First of all, I would like to mention about the writer of the novel Suhas Shirwalkar. Thereafter, the credit goes to the team of ‘Duniyadari’ . During the making of this film, there was an inner feeling amongst all of us that this film would become super hit.

Q:Now, you are also there in late Rajiv Patil’s forthcoming film ‘Vanshavel’. What’s your reaction?
A: Rajiv was a very good friend. I had earlier worked with him for the film ‘Blind Game’. I feel that I was fortunate to get another chance to work with a director like him. I am sure, ‘Vanshavel’ would also attain grand success.

Q: Can you please tell us something about this film.
A: Today, we are missing the joint family system. Therefore, those who have separated from the Joint family, if they go and watch this film, they will certainly be inspired to join back with their original joint family system. So much will be the impact of this film. The tagline of the film speaks everything. i.e. ‘If the family survives, the nation will survive.’

Q: And, what about your role ?
A: I am playing an important main character of a Doctor, who is very much influenced by his father, who takes all the decisions in the family. But, one day, when his own wife deserts him, he suffers. When a woman walks out of the life of a man, the vacuum created thereafter in his life, is all that this film talks about.

Q. Recently, you were also seen on stage. Why did you stop doing theatre?
A: I have not stopped. Actually, I am planning to perform in a new play. But, recently, due to preparations for MICTA,I could not find time and hence it is postponed. With my association with Maharashtra Kalanidhhi I was totally occupied with the event along with Mahesh Manjrekar. Even otherwise, I am associated with Natya Parishad activities as their active member.

Q: Do you consider anyone as your idol in this acting field ?
A: There is no one in particular. I like to learn from all of them. Because, there is something to learn from each one of the, But, my favourite actor is Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.

Q: What do you think about the taste of today’s audience?
A: Today, people like to have a complete package, which was offered by ‘Duniyadari’. There was a love story, action, drama and good music; offering total entertainment. In Marathi films, people also need a good story. Therefore, a film like ‘Grand Masti’ will never work in Marathi.

Shashank Ketkar

“New chocolate hero of Marathi small screen” – Shashak Ketkar

Academically he is an Engineer. And, Swimming was his passion, before he opted for acting profession. In fact, he was a national level swimmer. But, after acquiring his Engineering degree, when Shashak Ketkar proceeded to Australia to do his Masters in Engineering management; he never knew that on his return to India, he would turn an actor.

Shashank KetkarThings changed for him, during his two year stay in Australia. Shashank had then joined Maharashtra Mandal, to spend his free time. He found his major break in acting through Star Pravah’s serial ‘Suvasini’ where he played the role of Jayaram.

The character of Jayaram in ‘Suvasini’ gave Shashank his independent identity as an actor. But, when you ask Shashank, the turning point in his acting career, he quotes a scene in ‘Kalay Tasmay Namah’. “It was an intense scene with Mr. Vikram Gokhale and when it was over, director Mandar Deosthali, walked towards me and said that I was a hero material. His words came true, when I received the role of Shrirang Gokale from him, in ‘Honar Sun Mi Hya Gharchi’.” he said.

Till the time we saw this chocolate lover boy image of Shashank in ‘Honar Sun Mi Hya Gharchi’, Shashank had already played variety of roles in serials like ‘Rang Majha Vegala’, and ‘Swapnanchya Palikadle’ besides other serials. He also established himself in negative character for a change in ‘Swapnanchya Palikadle’. According to Shashank, this was an experience to learn new things. “Even today, I am learning a lot from my seniors. Tejashree is a wonderful co artiste; but Atul Parchure has also been of great help on the sets. We make a very good team on the sets of ‘Honar Sun Mi Hya Gharchi,” Every day on the sets, is a school to me.” he concludes.

Shashank is certainly a talented actor and has a bright future ahead. With the progress of his ongoing serial, he looks more and more confident . And, Nirmiti Sawant made her presence felt through that role. Thanks to director Chandrakant Kulkarni, who opted for her in that role. Thereafter, Nirmiti Sawant found roles in films, but they were not prominent enough to exploit her talent.

Nirmiti Sawant, ActressFilm maker Mahesh Kothare did present her in that memorable role of Gauri Shringarpure in his film; ‘Khabardar’ and later found her a suitable role in the film ‘Shubhamangal Savdhan’, where she played Najuka Aatya, the kind of character with orthodox thinking. Her co star in this serial was Pandharinath kamble. So much was the success of this serial that a film was made on this pair, with the same name and released recently. Nirmiti played a double role in this film, which had offered ample scope to make maximum use of her talent. Needless to say that Nirmiti dominated the film, with her superb performance.

Being a versatile actress, Nirmiti has terrific timing for comedy. Even in a smallest scene, she is able to create an impact. She was almost nearing 30,when she was playing the role of Kasturba in Richard Attenborough’s English Academy awards winning film ‘Gandhi’. But, that role made her an internationally acclaimed actress. Born as Rohini Oak in Pune, Rohini married Jayadev Hattangadi, who was her batch mate in NSD, Delhi. Today, Rohini Hattangadi, is a renowned personality in films, theatre and television industry. So far, she has won two Filmfare Awards, one National Film Award, and is the only Indian actress to win the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Kasturba Gandhi in Gandhi (1982). Since her childhood, she always wanted to become an actress and began her lessons through theatre. Rohini made her film debut with Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s ‘Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan’ in 1978. The film won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie. This was followed by her appearance in Mirza’s next picture, ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai’ (1980), which won the same award, and Rabindra Dharmaraj’s drama Chakra (1981). Her roles in these films were not big; but after her performance in ‘Gandhi’ in 1982, she was mostly offered character roles in mainstream Hindi cinema and was often typecast in mother’s roles, much ahead of her actual age. Respected for her acting prowess, she has appeared in about 80 feature films, and is today very active on Marathi television.

Rohini Hattangadi, Actress
Being a versatile actress, Rohini has performed in many Hindi and Marathi serials in the recent past; but, her eTV’s serial ‘Char Divas Sasuche’ which made a record run of more than 6 years continuously. Today, she is the most popular TV actress, returning back with another important role of a head of the family in Zee Marathi’s new serial ‘Honar Sunn Mee Hya Gharchi’. Marathi Movie world spoke to this resourceful actress, to know more about her 35 year long acting career.

Q: We have heard that every serial you are part of in Marathi, turns out to be a marathon serial, gaining popularity. What’s your reaction ? A: Yes, I have seen the success and popularity of ‘Char Diwas Sasuche’; and now, being part of ‘Honar Sun Mee Hya Gharchi’, I watching almost the same reactions coming from people, who I come across. They have appreciated the subject and my role. But, I would attribute the credit of popularity of the serial to the entire team, the writer, producer, director and all the artistes. It’ happens because of good team work.

Q: In your acting career, right from the beginning stage, you have played the Mother’s role for actors, who were much elder to you. How did you react to that situation? A: Being a professional actress, I had to be prepared for any role that was offered to me. Yes, some of the actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Jitendra were more than10 years elder to me. But, it all depended, how that actor playing my son, responded in all those important scenes with me. For any actor, it is very important to extract the best out of him or her; with the good support coming from the artiste who is opposite that person in a particular scene.

Q: Recently, we even saw you performing in a Marathi film ‘Premachi Goshta’ after a long time. Your comments. A: Yes, I did accept that role, as I liked the script.

Q: There are many new Marathi stage plays on different subjects. Aren’t you tempted to perform on Marathi stage now? A: I had done stage in the past. But, in the recent past, I had not received any offers with a good script. But, very soon, you will see me performing in a play ‘Jagadamba’ which is on the life of Kasturba Gandhi. The play was already staged in 2009 and is being revived now. I will be playing the lead role with a solo performance in this two act play. There is lot to be told about life of kasturba Gandhi and her actual role in the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The general feeling is that, ‘behind every successful man there is a wife’. But, in the case of Gandhiji, kasturba was always with him and not behind him. That’s what this play will be speaking about. Through this play, the main character will be communicating with the audience. So, just wait. I am getting ready for this play.

Q: Tell us something about this ongoing serial of yours, ‘Honar Sun Mee Hya Gharchi’? A; Well, I liked the concept and even my role in it. The head of the family I play, is very strict, who wants everybody to be disciplined and speak truth. She is taking good care of all the women folks in the house, after getting rid of the useless men; except her Grandson- Shree, who is well behaved and very much attached to her.

Q: So, can we expect this serial also to be the most popular serial in coming days ? A: I Hope so. After all, success is achieved through excellent team work. Thank you.

There is a lot of scope for Dubbing artistes- RJ Mayuresh

rj-mayuresh-interview-image

We have been hearing many voices in original English and South Indian movies, which are dubbed in Hindi. There are many advertisements on Marathi television, which are dubbed in Marathi for Maharashtrian viewers. Then there are Voiceovers for films and TV serial promos on various TV channels. But, we never know, who are these dubbing artistes. Marathi Movie World spoke to one such Radio Jockey, who is not only popular Hindi and Marathi R.J. on AIR’s100.7 FM Gold channel, Mumbai; but we hear his voiceover regularly on Star Pravah channel, when it comes to advertising a particular serial or programme. Incidentally, he was also the narrator of ‘Agnihotra’ Marathi serial for their 100 episodes.

For the past 9 years, Mayuresh Shirke has been entertaining radio listeners, with his mesmerising voice on FM Gold channel. But, Mayuresh also trains people in Voice Culture and Dubbing, at his own studio Kkhanak Audio Recording studio, at Bhavani Shankar road, Dadar. He has started this work along with Rashmi Warang, his colleague from FM radio, who is also a copy writer and translator. This studio which is managed by Vishakha Tikale Pandit; has offered training to many aspiring dubbing artistes.

Mayuresh has worked very hard to get himself into this profession.he has learned many things through experience. And, one of them was punctuality, which is very important in R.J’s job. Many popular Radio artistes like Ameen Sayani, Ajit Bhure, Pradeep Bhide,Ninad kamat and others have inspired him.

RJ Mayuresh, MumbaiMayuresh alongwith Rashmi Warang has not only trained newcomers from Mumbai; but he has also conducted workshops for R.J. Voice modulation and dubbing for the aspiring artistes in all age groups in Kolhapur,Silvasa, Malegaon and Nashik, numbering about 600. He also worked as a visiting faculty at Mumbai Educational trust ( MET). “There is plenty of scope for such artistes, who would like to remain behind the screen; yet impress audience with their graceful voices.” he said, while explaining importance of this training . When we met him, Mayuresh was busy training a batch of students for dubbing an original cartoon film in English. “It is the most challenging job to dub cartoon characters, as you can’t read the lip movement of the characters, as we do in the feature film dubbing. But, we have to get involved into the scene, their actions and literally act like them, while lending voice for them.” he said.

According to Mayuresh, dubbing artistes for Cartoon film characters are paid more than those who dub for feature films or advertisements. “Voiceover artistes are also in big demand for some of the popular Channels like Discovery of National Geographic, who are having their Hindi versions too in India.” he added. Whenever, Mayuresh is busy with his personal assignments, his colleagues manage his work at the studio. He has a very competent sound editing expert in the form of Prashant kamble, who is totally dedicated to his job. “There are no fixed hours for this studio recording; as many a times, we have to make adjustments according to the busy schedule of some celebrities, who have visited our studio for audio recordings.” he stated. At Kkhanak studio he has done the advertising for popular films like ‘Dombivali fast’, ‘Nishani Davaa Angatha’, ‘Bedhund’, ‘Huppa Huiyya’ and TV serials like ‘Bhagyavidhata’,’Bandhan’, ‘Vasudha’ and ads for Hundai Sonnata car, various banks, Birla white and Sagarika Music Co.

While we watched Mayuresh at work, explaining the learning artistes about their involvement in character, there were many retakes of the artistes, during that dubbing session. But, Mayuresh was trying to explain each one of them, their drawbacks. In fact, to dub one minute sequence; one student had 16 retakes; till Mayuresh finally got the results. His sound expert did the rest, with his quick copy- paste job. After the session , we had detailed discussion about the scope for such artistes in the entertainment industry; and Mayuresh said, “Those who really practice hard and have clarity in their voice, besides acting skills with well suited body language, at the time of recording, really do well. It’s almost like acting; but the only difference is that there is no camera in front of them. But, there’s a mike with a filter which is capturing their voice. So, you have to imagine that you are playing that character yourself. Then you really enjoy it.” he concluded.

In 2010, Mayuresh released his book ‘Manasparshi’ along with his friends Rashmi Warang and Ganesh Achwal, narrating experiences in the life of a radio Jockey. Now, he is all set to open a new branch of Kkhanak at Pune. At the same time, his next workshop in Mumbai will be held at his Dadar studio from 26th Sept onwards.
