Four Marathi films for Friday release

 MovieThere will be as many as four Marathi films to release simultaneously this Friday. This has obviously resulted in limited availability of screens for each one of them. With competition from three Hindi films also to be released this Friday, three Marathi films, namely ‘Yellow’, ‘Surajya’ and ‘Campus katta’ are still occupying about 50 screens in Mumbai. In spite of this problem, ‘Postcard’ has been able to manage at least 50 screens in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai areas. This being 45th film of film maker Gajendra Ahirey, it has also raised expectations, for being different from the traditional Marathi films, with well known artistes like Dilip Prabhavalkar, Girish Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Subodh Bhave, Radhika Apte, Vibhavari Deshpande, kishore kadam and others.

Rajendra Bandivadekar’s ‘Dhamak’ which is claimed as a big budget Marathi film in a bollywood style, has also raised hopes for being an action packed film with popular artistes like Aniket Vishwasrao, Girija Joshi, Mohan Joshi, Vidyadhar Joshi, Ashok Samarth and two well known dancers from Bollywood. The third Marathi film ‘Cappuccino ‘ written & directed by Shiv kadam also has a good star cast, comprising of Varsha Usgaonkar, Mohan Joshi, Sanjay Narvekar, Jitendra Joshi, Manasi Naik, Anuja Sathe Gokhale, Viju Khote and Dr.Girish Oak. Form the name itself, it indicates comedy, but it remains to be seen, how it will manage to get crowds in cinema halls with limited screens available.

The fourth Marathi film also due for release this Friday, is Sushil Gajawani’s ‘Aditya V Aditya” , which has claimed to be a psychological thriller. With very few screens available, even this film poses competition from the three films, mentioned above.

‘Doosari Goshta’ first look out

Known for their quality work in Marathi films, the trio comprising of Chandrakant Kulkarni, Ajit Dalvi and Prashant Dalvi, is all set to hit the silver screen once again. ‘Doosari Goshta’, their second film, based on the political graph after block bluster ‘Aajacha Divas Majha (which won national award for best Marathi film this year) , is ready for release in 172 theatres across the State on May 01, 2014. The film is directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, while Ajit and Prashant Dalvi have shouldered the responsibility of the story, screenplay and dialogue.

‘Doosari Goshta’ is presented by Jigisha Creations and has been produced by Dr Shailaja Gaikwad, Manjiri Hete and Prasad Mahadkar of Jeevangani, an organization known for its contribution to the musical field. The film’s first look was officially released yesterday evening at Citylight cinema, Mumbai.
Story of this film revolves around a young boy from lower caste, who had no option but to resort to petty thefts to make both ends meet after he lost his father at an early age. But the boy did not look back once he realized the importance of the education. He kept climbing higher steps of ladder of his life, with enormous hard work. Portraying all the ups and downs in the life of the protagonist, the film, ‘Doosari Goshta’, captures all emotional values. The story has many dramatic turns and twists and at the same time, focuses on the people who helped him reach his ultimate goal.

On one hand the where this protagonist is helped to do something for the country, on the other hand, the truth does not hide the fact that the progressive Maharashtra State had to wait for 50 years, to find a Dalit in CM’s chair. Hence the example carved by the protagonist of the story stands inspiring for the gen-next. Positive approach and uncompromised hard work helped this unparalleled personality to a height, which has been depicted in the film.

‘Doosari Goshta’ has the attractive and inspiring personality, Vikram Gokhale – the national award winner actor- is featuring a protagonist in the film. His younger version has been featured by Siddharth Chandekar, who is doing the most challenging role of his career. Anand Ingale will be a ‘Surprise Package’ for his fans. Sandeep Mehta is also doing a very important role. Neha Pendse is in the lead role and other actors include Aditya Ganu, Bharati Patil, Smita Sarvade, Sunil Tawde, Girish Joshi and Mugdha Godbole.. Pratiksha Lonkar and Renuka Shahane will be seen in guest appearance.

‘Campus Katta’ and ‘Surajya’ to release simultaneously

Last week there was no Marathi film released. But, coming Friday two New Marathi films are being released simultaneously. ‘Campus Katta’ produced under the banner of ‘Sharp Eye productions’ is directed by ‘Rangakarmi’ fame Sanjeev Kolte; while ‘Surajya’ is directed by ‘ ‘Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ fame Santosh Manjrekar. While Santosh Juvekar plays the protagonist in ‘Campus Katta’, newcomer Vaibhav Tatwawadi also dares to challenge the system through his lead character in ‘Surajya’. In ‘Campus Katta’ it is the fight against the existing education system, while ‘Surajya’ has shown a fight against blind faith.

Incidentally, subjects of both the films relate to the ‘change’ desired by the young generation and therefore the timing of the release of both these films is most appropriate, taking into account the ongoing parliamentary elections in the country. While ‘Campus Katta’ has a team of popular artistes like Santosh Juvekar along with Namrata Gaikwad, Sheetal Dabholkar, Milind Shinde, Vikram Gokhale, Kishori Shahane, Arun Nalawade & newcomer Rahul Dongre; ‘Surajya’ offers a new lead pair Vaibhav Tatwawadi and Mrunal Thakur with stalwarts like Sharad Ponkshe and Madhav Abhyankar in supporting cast.

‘Campus katta’s music is composed by Pravin Kunwar and cinematography by Jitendra Achrekar; while ‘Surajya’s music is by Pankaj-Padgham and cinematography by Vikram Amladi. Expectations are high from Santosh Manjrekar, having given a super hit film like ‘Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ in the past and so are the expectations from angry young man of Marathi films-Satosh Juvekar. So, over to 18th April, to check, which film succeeds in gathering crowds in the cinema halls.

Marathi artistes score once again at National Awards

Marathi artistes have once again proved their ability at the national level. While ‘Fandry’ received two awards for the best child artiste- Somnath Avaghade and best debut direction- Nagraj Manjule, Bela Shende received the best playback female singer award for her song in Marathi film ‘Tuhya Dharma Koncha’ . This film also won the national award for best social film. Sumitra Bhave has won the national award for best dialogues in her Marathi film ‘Astu’, while Amruta Subhash has won best supporting actress award for her performance in the same film.

Marathi film ‘Yellow’ received special jury award , while child artiste Gauri Gadgil was special mention by the jury, for her performance in ‘Yellow’ . This year’s Best Marathi film award went to ‘Aajcha Diwas Majha’.

Music of the much awaited Marathi film ‘Ek Hazarachi Note’ (1000 Rupee Note) was released by the Eminent Film Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, in a big way at Swatantraveer Savarakar Rashtriya Smarak Auditorium, Shivaji Park, Mumbai on 15th April 2014. The Music Director of the film is Shailendra Barve, a National Award Winner, was present along with singers Neha Rajpal, Vivek Naik and Amol Bawdekar on the occasion. Also present was Shrihari Sathe, the internationally acclaimed Indian Filmmaker, who is the Director and Producer of ‘Ek Hazarchi Note’ (1000 Rupee Note). This movie is his first Indian venture.

The story of the movie has been written by Shrikant Bojewar who has also penned its 5 songs. ‘Ek Hazarchi Note’ (1000 Rupee Note) is a simple yet significant movie portraying the drama amongst the common folk, especially in rural areas, who tend to enjoy all the little things in life.

Star cast of the film comprises of veteran actor Usha Naik with Sandeep Pathak, Shrikant Yadav, Ganesh Yadav, Pooja Nayak and Devendra Gaikwad. Ming Kai Leung (USA) is the Director of Photography and Art Director is Prashant Bidkar. While Kalyani Kulkarni Gugle is the Costume Designer and Make Up is by Santosh Gilbile. Ranjit Gugle and Shekhar Sathe are the Executive Producers. The sound designer is Thorsten Minning (Germany).

According to the director, the film revolves around the fact that the poor folk have to face life as it comes, with little control over themselves. Even when money comes, it brings problems. They unfortunately have to take things as they come and are not in a position to retaliate, if anything wrong is done to them. People wielding power, have inhuman control over their destiny.

‘Ek Hazarachi Note’ is produced by him under his banner ‘Infinitum Productions’. Prior to this Shrihari has produced two feature length films, both in the US. ‘Pervertigo’ (2012) world premiered at the Warsaw Film Festival was also shown at Mumbai Film Festival. The second film he produced was ‘It Felt like Love’ which premiered at 2013 Sundance Film Festival last year and was screened at about dozen festivals all over the world. It released theatrically in March 2014 in the US

Zee Marathi & Mahesh Kothare getting ready with ‘Jai Malhar’

‘Jai Malhar’ the biggest saga and first mythological soap is coming soon on Zee Marathi. The show explores the life of Maharashtra’s most famous family deity, Khandoba. According to the maker Mr. Mahesh Kothare, it will be a grand, mythological drama which will be set in that time. Khandoba is worshipped as Martanda Bhairava, a form of Shiva, mainly in the Deccan plateau of India, especially in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. He is also the patron deity of warrior, farming, herding as well as some Brahmin castes, the hunters and gatherers of the hills and forests.

Khandoba is mostly known for his battle with demons Malla & Mani. But, this serial will be exploring the lesser known side of his life. Among his many wives, there were 2, who were his favorites- Mhalsa & Banai. While Khandoba’s first wife Mhalsa was from the high caste merchant community, his second wife Banai was a Dhangar (shepherd caste). Mhalsa had a regular ritualistic marriage with Khandoba; while, for Banai, it was a love marriage. Mhalsa, known to be fulfilling Parvati’s promise to Shiva, had taken the mohini avtaar;while Banai who was beautiful & attractive, who didn’t even know how to cook. Because of their possessiveness towards Khandoba, both Mhalsa & Banai never got along with each other & Khandoba used to be at receiving end, during their quarrels. ‘Jai Malhar’ will be a mega show on Marathi television; which would depict a love story of Khandoba and his two wives; is all set to release on 18th May 2014.

‘Dhamak’ promises wholesome entertainment

C. S. Films first venture ‘Zale Mokale Aaksh’ gave an opportunity to businessman Rajendra Bandiwadekar to learn film direction, in the company of his co – director Yogesh Mahajan. This time, through his home production C.S.Films, he is independently directing forthcoming Marathi film ‘Dhamak’, starring renowned artistes Mohan Joshi, Aniket Vishwasrao, Ashok Samarth, Girija Joshi, Uma Sardeshmukh, Vidyadhar Joshi, Viju Khote, Jaywant Wadkar, Ajay Padhye, Dhananjay Mandrekar, Moushumi Tondvalkar, Girish Salvi & new villain Shoneel Shinde. The highlight of the film is special appearances by Meghana Naidu and Mumait Khan; who have performed an item song and lavani respectively.

On Wednesday evening the entire unit of ‘Dhamak’ presented themselves before the media; when some clippings from the film were shown, besides the director and main artistes of the film talking about their experience. After Mr. Rajendra Bandiwadekar briefed about his desire to make such a film, the lead artistes of the film- Aniket, Ashok, Girija, praised the dynamic film maker for his generosity, for not compromising on the budget of the film. Choreographer Umesh Jadhav , who was also present on the occasion; admitted that he received the amount, what he quoted. “Never before, I have come across a film maker, who agreed to pay, what I asked for. And, that was the biggest incentive for me, ” hesaid. Lyricist Rajesh Bamugade and music director Nirmal Kumar also spoke on the occasion.

The film’s cinematography is by Prasad Bhende and editing by ‘Duniyadari’ fame Ashish Mhatre and Apurva Motiwale. Scheduled for release on 25th april, the film promises wholesome entertainment, as noticed from the clippings of the film, including Meghana Naidu’s item number, romantic song on lead pair picturised at beautiful Konkan location and the action scenes. Best thing about the entire team was that all of them were dressed in specially stitched “Dhamak’ T shirts, clearly indicating their team spirit.

Renuka Shahane makes a comeback through ‘Bhakarkhadi – 7Km’

Renuka ShahaneProducer Dr. Dinesh Vaidya and Co producer Priyanka Prashant Kamat are presenting a Marathi film ‘ Bhakarkhadi- 7 Kms’ , which is a story of a young devoted doctor and directed by Umesh Namjoshi. Highlight of the film is that renowned actress Renuka Shahane is making her acting comeback through this film.

The film has already received critical acclaim at various national and international film festivals and is now scheduled for release all over Maharashtra on 9th May 2014. Many popular artistes from Marathi film industry are performing in this film; namely Aniket Vishwasrao, Veena Jamkar, Anant Jog, Uday Tikekar, Dr.Girish Oak, Late Anand Abhyankar,Bharat Ganeshpure, Ashok Samel, Suyash Tilka and others. Music by kamalesh Bhadkamkar, Lyrics by Dr.Dinesh Vaidya, Editing by Jayant Jathar and cinematography by Prashad Bhende are other credits.

Campus Katta’ all set to release on 18th April

Sheetal DabholkarThe angry young man of Marathi Cinema- Santosh Juvekar will be seen in action through forthcoming Marathi film – ‘Campus Katta’, which is all set to release on 18th April 2014. At a press conference held in Mumbai yesterday, director Sanjeev Kolte made this official announcement. According to the director, the film is based on social values and deals with the most relevant global issues through its script. Perhaps, the new subjects handled by Marathi films these days, has inspired the director, to choose this theme, which throws light on the corrupt system and how the students movement helps to counter it.

Instead of passing out from the college and search for his career options, te hero of the film played by Santosh Juvekar remains in the same college, to challenge the system. “Selecting Santosh as a protagonist, this is a tailor made role for Santosh. I could not think of any other person, while finalising the script.” said the director.

Alongwith santosh Juvekar, the other important artistes in the film are: Vikram Gokhale, Arun Nalawade, Milind Shinde, Namrata Gaikwad, Sheetal Dabholkar, Swati Chitins, Kishori Shahane, Manasi Maggikar and newcomer Rahul Dongre. Music by Praveen Kunwar, Cinematography by Jitendra Achrekar and choreography by Santosh Palwankar are other credits. Many popular singers like Avadhoot Gupte, Swapnil Bandodkar and others have rendered their voices for the songs in the film on the lyrics of Mandar Cholkar, meena Govind and Sanjeev Kolte himself.

 

Shreyash-Preet attempt variety through their music

Shreyash PreetMusic has always played an important role in the success of many Marathi films. Some film makers consider, music as the heart of the film. And, director Pradeep Ghosanikar is one of them. Pradeep , who is making a film ‘Ticha Umbartha’ under the banner of RDX Cinema, is also presenting a new pair of Music directors through this film. Shreyash- Preet, who had earlier presented popular album ‘Shree Gananayaka’, are offering variety through three songs, which are given different treatment in this film.

There will be a semi classical song rendered by kavita Seth along with Mandar Apte and Suhas Sawant. Then, there is a Party song with Rap mixing rendered by Jasraj Joshi, Akshata sawant and Pinky Chinoy and the third song is a club song rendered by Akshata Sawant. The film stars Chinmay mandlekar and Tejaswini Pandit in the lead, supported by Jyoti Chandekar, Harsha Khandeparkar & Suyash Tilak. Camera by Yogesh Jani and art direction by Nitin Desai are the other credits. .
