‘Swarajya’ offers new angry young man to Marathi Cinema

The burning issues of Marathi Manoos have been exploited by two rival political parties in Maharastra. But, the Marathi films also have been doing their bit to raise these issues through better scripts. In the recent past, we saw ‘Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ followed by ‘Arjun’ encouraging the Marathi Manoos in Maharashtra to rise against injustice.
Now, director duo Vishal- Vihar have carried forward this success formula through their suitably titled film ‘Swarajya’ with a tagline… ‘Marathi Paul Padate Pudhe’. Though the theme of the film is the same as previous two films, ‘Swarajya’ goes further to encourage the educated youth to move with Unity as strength. The film does have a melodrama to expose SRA related manipulations, corruption by political leaders through hard hitting dialogues which is USP of this film.
All this was possible only because of a good star cast led by the angry young man Rajesh Shrungarpure, who with his graceful personality and rich voice, almost rocks in this film. Supported by well presented screenplay, the film is sure to inspire otherwise tolerant people from Maharashtra.

Zee Talkies’ favourite Kon awards
![]()
Zee Talkies’ popular awards – ‘Lux Maharashtracha Favorite Kon2011′ took place on late night on Sunday 6th November at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Andheri. As usual the function was delayed by almost 90 minutes, when favorite Zee Talkies anchor Mahesh Manjrekar finally commenced the function by pulling the legs of few personalities from Marathi film and television field. It was the turn of Santosh Juvekar, Anand Ingale, Bhalachandra Kadam, Vaibhav Mangale, Pushkar Shrotri, Swanand Kirkire to listen to his gimmicks for no reason; till Sachin Khedekar joined him in the later half to break the monotony.
While there were some routine skits based on Political situation presented by Makarand Anaspure and company in their regular style. Even the songs presented by the artistes like Subodh Bhave, Vaibhav Mangale and others did not go well with the occasion, till Kranti Redkar and Sanjay Khapre brought some form of entertainment through their unusual skit. The award presentation ceremonies kept happening at every break of variety entertainment item. And one such item was presented by Smita Tambe on the song of Ooh la la…. From ‘The Dirty Picture’.
Smita was fortunate to perform this number in front of Bollywood star Vidya Balan, who was present in the capacity of special guest. Vidya later called up Smita and appreciated her performance. She presented the the awards for Best Style Icon and Lux celebrity Diva to Aniket Vishwasrao and Kranti Redkar respectively. But, it was Aniket, who showed a fine gesture by sharing this award by inviting the other nominees Santosh Juvekar and Jitendra Joshi on stage.
While Bela Shende bagged the award for favorite female playback singer for the film ‘Balgandharva’, it was Suresh wadkar, who was declared the favorite male playback singer for the film ‘Mee Sindhutai Sapkal’. The best song award also went to ‘Mee Sindhutai Sapkal’. Sachin Khedekar was declared the favorite villain for the film ‘Fakta Ladh Mhana'; but there was no favourite for negative role among the females. There was however favorite supporting female actress in the form of Vishakha Subhedar, while Siddharth Jadhav was declared as favorite supporting male actor.
The dance performances of some of the artistes like Amruta Khanvilkar, Neha Pendse and others had lined up, but it was almost turning midnight and hence mmw could not cover the remaining main awards for Favorite Actor’s category, where Sachin Khedekar (Taryanche Bait), Subodh Bhave (Balgandharva) and Swapnil Joshi (Mumbai Pune Mumbai) were nominated, while Tejaswini Pandit (Mee Sindhutai Sapkal), Madhura Velankar (Haapus) and Mukta Barve (Mumbai Pune Mumbai) were nominated for Favorite actress section.
All in all the Zee Talkies- Lux Maharashtracha Favourite Kon 2011 wasn’t that impressive, like it was previous year. Delaying the schedule almost by two hours and extending the event beyond 12 midnight was certainly taxing.
