‘Zindagi Virat’ offers casual entertainment
Movie: Zindagi Virat
Rating: ★★1/2 Genres: Drama Censor: U Duration: 130 min. Studio / Presenter: Anjaneya Sathe Entertainment Producer(s): Anjaneya Sathe Director: Sumit Sanghamitra Writer: Sumit Sanghamitra Cinematography (DOP): Satyajeet Shobha Shriram Cast: Bhau Kadam, Om Bhutkar, Atul Parchure, Kishor Kadam, Usha Naik… Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Presentation of script on the rural backdrop have become common now days in Marathi films. Latest released Marathi film ‘Zindagi Virat’ produced by Anjaneya Sathe (Grandson of Late Amrish Puri) and written and directed by Sumit Sanghamitra is no different than many such rural based films released in the recent past.
The story of this film begins with the death of Dattoba Ahiwale (Kishore Kadam) who is father of film’s young hero Santosh alias Santya ( Om Bhutkar) living in a village. Dattoba who is alcohol addict and working in a factory as night watchman dies in strange circumstances. Santya, who works as a construction worker performs all the rituals as per the tradition, to rest his father’s departed soul in peace. But, the crow doesn’t eat the food offered.
This disturbs Santya, who is reminded by his father’s ghost to fulfil his last wish i.e. of celebrating his birthday, by cutting a cake. This puts Santya in a dilemma, as he does not remember his father’s birthday. So, with the help of his close friend Asif alias Asfya ( Sumit Sanghamitra) from the same village, he goes in search of his father’s birth date. The rest of the film is their search for the same. And, this has been presented with a touch of light humour, with unfolding of the mystery in the climax.
The film could have been more interesting with more humour filled happenings, but the director who is himself a writer, has created more scenes for him, almost equal to the film’s hero, clearly indicating that he plays a parallel role. There is no doubt that both Om and Sumit have performed their respective roles with full commitment, but it is Kishore kadam, who steals the show, with whatever he finds to his share. In other important roles Usha Naik and Bhau Kadam are also impressive. It was not necessary to show the character of Usha Naik smoking Bidi in almost all her scenes in the film, with the caution message for tobacco smoking appearing all the time on the screen. Good support comes from Atul Parchure and others.
The film’s music by Suraj Dhiraj is just fine in few songs incorporated in the screenplay. But, Umakant Jagtap’s sound design and Satyajit Shobha Shriram’s cinematography appeal the most. All in all, ‘Zindagi Virat’ offers casual entertainment.

“You need a father with ‘Braveheart’ to make a film on the true story of his departed son”- Atul Parchure
A Narrator plays an important role in a film, especially if the film is based on a true story or a biopic. Many prominent actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Late Om Puri in Hindi and Sachin Khedekar in Marathi have played this role, while narrating the gist of the film, at the beginning of a film. I was myself very much moved, when I was approached to be a narrator of this film. I am sure, this film would be appreciated by film lovers. Comedy should not be the only criteria of entertainment. The film’s gripping subject can also offer a good entertainment of keeping the audience engaged,” said Atul.

‘Paash’ depicts psychological aspect of new generation
The demands of middle class people are rising day by day. Thanks to the well spread network of financial institutions offering quick credit and the business approach adopted by educational institutions. The flourishing money lending business supported by recovery agents has made the life of common man more miserable. The new Marathi film aptly titled ‘Paash’ has taken up this serious issue, which has forced the middle class to fall into this deadly trap, while meeting their necessities in the name of trust.
Arvind Jog comes up with his own story, screenplay, dialogues and direction to offer ‘Paash‘, which talks about the cunning attitude of people who take advantage of the good nature of their close friends, only for their personal gains. It is rightly said, “ Not all those close to you are necessarily your good friends and not all those whom you have kept away are your enemies”. Based on this logic, ‘Paash’ goes on to show how such innocent people who trust their close friends, ultimately fall into this snare. They only live on hope that their close friend would come to their rescue.
The film offers diverse characters, each one with an attitude, who speak for themselves. It is for the audience to judge how good and bad they are. The film has a very strong star cast comprising of popular artistes like Atul Parchure, Seema Deshmukh, Arun Nalawade, Sharad Ponkshe, Subodh Bhave, Sharvari Jemnis, Santosh Juvekar, Sunil Barve, Neelam Shirke, Meghna Erande, Samira Gujar and Shailesh Datar.
Anand Modak has composed the music of this film on the lyrics of Sudhir Moghe. The highlight of the film is that actress Sharvari Jemnis makes her debut as a choreographer through this film.
‘Be Dune Sade Chaar’- A Funny adult comedy !

Presenter: Video Place Production Producer: Nanubhai Jaisinghani Director: Girish Mohite Story: Aniruddha Potdar, Abhay Darvane Music: Anand Menon, Ajit Parab Cast: Mohan Joshi, Atul Parchure, Sanjay Narvekar, Vandana Gupte, Sai Tamhankar Movie Review by: Sandeep Hattangadi |
Nanubhai Jaisinghani (Video Palace) is a well known producer in Marathi(VCD’s and DVD’s and his first film production ‘Be Dune Saade Chaar’ is a lavish comedy with great production values.
The film revolves around Anant Kitturkar (Mohan Joshi) who leads a double marital life with two wives and children in two different cities. The first one is Manorama(Vandana Gupte) with daughter Rashmi(Sai Tamhanker) and the other being Anjali (Mugdha Shah) along with son Rahul(Sushant Shelar).
How Anant handles both the families, is a hilarious situation in the film , especially when his son and daughter celebrate their birthday on the same day. Anant’s secret is known only to his good friends played by Sanjay Narvekar and Atul Parchure. And these friends in one tight situation are forced to reveal Anant’s secret , that leads to many funny situations.
The story by Anirudh Potdar and Abhay Dakhne is nothing novel, as films like David Dhawan’s ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Gharwali Baharwali’ and the recent Marathi hit film ‘Hay Kay Nay Kay’ find similarity to their plot. It also has shades of Goldie Hawn’s Hollywood hit ‘Deceived’.
The film is watch able only because of the creation of funny situations and dialogues. The entire cast performs well, with Mohan Joshi leading the pack. Atul Parchure is hilarious and Sanjay Narvekar is impressive.
It’s a trendsetting film, as Mohan and Atul have sung a song for the first time. The highlight is Resham Tipnis’ sizzling dance number. Director Girish Mohite has handled the comic subject very well. The music by Ajit Parab and Menon(Ishq Ishq ) is tuneful. Technically, the film is first rate and a slickly made like any big budget Hindi film with dazzling cinematography by Santosh Shinde.
See this film, if you like yourself to be entertained by a mindless comedy.
