  Synopsis :

   In Marathi film ‘Sher Shivraj’, we’ll see how Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan at Pratapgad fort.  Pratapgad and Afzal Khan have a very close relationship.  With the intention of defeating the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Khan reached the base of the fort with a large army, well prepared, but could not retreat.  His grave was dug there.  Because Khan had no idea of Shivaji Maharaj’s war strategy, ingenuity, guerrilla tactics and diplomacy.  These wonderful qualities and unique fighting skills of Shivaji Maharaj will be seen in the movie ‘Sher Shivraj’ It may be recalled that the Slaughtering of Afzal Khan is an important chapter in the history of Shivaji Maharaj’s period. Every Sardar and every soldier of the Maratha army played an important role in strengthening the power of the Great warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Film maker Digpal Lanjekar who offered us two films namely ‘Farzand’ and ‘Fatteshikast’ were based on the bravery acts of such Sardars and soldiers. The latest film of writer- director Digpal Lanjekar offers the episode of aggressive battle of Pavankhind fought between Maratha Sardar Baji Prabhu Deshpande along with Bandal Army comprising of only 600 soldiers with the mighty 10,000 + army of Adilshah Sultanate led by Siddi Masud.

It was a well planned battle to mislead the enemy and enable Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to reach Vishalgad through safe route. The film highlights the sacrifice of Baji Prabhu Deshpande and the Bandal army, while fighting the enemy in this region. So, the film is a tribute to Baji Prabhu Deshpande and all those soldiers from his army who were severely injured and laid down their lives for the safety of their beloved King.

The film has therefore given enough scope to Ajay Purkar, who has played the important role of Baji Prabhu Deshpande. He seems to be the favourite of the director, as in his earlier films he had played equally important characters of Tanaji Malusare and Motyaji Khalekar. Another artiste who invites all the attention is Harish Dudhade in the role of Bahirji Naik. At present, he is most popular actor on Marathi television. It may be recalled that Harish had played the character of Bahirji Naik very efficiently in Digpal’s previous film ‘Fatteshikast’.

Among others, Chinmay Mandlekar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mrinal Kulkarni as Rajmata Jijau, Ankit Mohan with his strong physique as Rayaji Bandal and Kshiti Jog as Badi Begum make their presence felt in this multi starrer film, which concludes with the great battle in Maratha history , in which both the sides suffered heavy casualties. And therefore, we notice a lot of bloodshed while watching these action scenes. At the same time, there are many emotion filled scenes reminding about the love and respect every soldier from Maratha army had for their brave King. This film is now available for viewing on Amazon Prime.

Digpal Lanjekar who had successfully directed earlier Marathi films like ‘Farzand’, ‘Fatteshikast’ and very recently released his film ‘Pawankhind, is now getting ready to release his next film ‘Sher Shivraj’.  Through this film Digpal has focussed on how Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan at Pratapgad fort.

 It may be recalled that the Slaughtering of Afzal Khan is an important chapter in the history of Shivaji Maharaj’s period. We can say that then ‘Hindavi Swarajya’ was established in the true sense.  Now, the Marathi film lovers are getting ready to witness the historic golden chapter on the silver screen on 22nd April all over.

A glimpse of this historic moment can be seen on the recently released poster and Teaser of the film ‘Sher Shivraj’.  The saffron flag of ‘Hindavi Swarajya’ proudly fluttering on Pratapgad, the blood soaked hand of the Maharaj, the tiger nails which pulled out the bowels of Afzal Khan and the dazzling sun, which is a silent witness of all the happenings from that time till today.

But now, the bravery act of this great woman will come alive on big screen .Puneet Balan Studios have announced their big historical Marathi film ‘Bhadrakali’ on the occasion of Shiv Rajyabhishek Day on 6^th June recently.

 The launching of this film has brought together many renowned personalities together. Puneet Balan as producer combine with Digpal Lanjekar as writer, National award winning director Prasad Oak as director and Ajay-Atul as music directors of this new film. The story of this film will revolve around this brave Woman Commander in chief of Maratha army during the period Shahu Maharaj in 18^th century. There is a lot of curiosity about the star cast of this film. But, the same will be disclosed by director Prasad Oak in his own style very soon. According to the makers, this film will be released in the year 2022.

Writer-director-actor Digpal Lanjekar, inspired by the different episodes in the life of brave Maratha King Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj , has offered two grand Marathi films ‘Farzand’ read review and ‘Fatfeshikast‘  read review and his third film ‘Jangjouhar’ which is complete, is due for release in theatres shortly. In the meanwhile, he has announced his fourth Marathi film ‘Sher Shivraj Hai’. The title of this film is inspired by the poem penned by Poet Bhushan, in praise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

At present Digpal is busy giving finishing touches to the script of ‘Sher Shivraj Hai’, where he is paying a lot of attention on Shivaji Maharaj’s mind set and his planning and execution while fighting the battles. He will also present the highly respected character of this King who was well versed in geographical knowledge. The first poster and teaser of this film will be released soon, but in the meanwhile this film too has generated a lot of curiosity in the minds of Marathi film lovers.

360 years have passed since this great battle was fought. And therefore it was a big challenge before the makers of this film Ajay and Anirudh Aarekar of Almonds Creations, who recreated the scenes with suitable huge sets, difficult action scenes with the help of advanced technical support. Therefore, there is a lot of curiosity about this film. The film stars Mrinal Kulkarni and Chinmay Mandlekar in prominent lead roles along with the big team of 21 talented artistes. ‘Fateshikast’ has now been included in the archives of Maratha Light Infantry on the recommendation of their Regiment. It may be recalled that when the film was released in theatres in November 2019, it was seen by four thousand army cadets who were undergoing training at Belgaum along with their army officers . They highly appreciated the inspiring subject of this film, especially the planning and strategies of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj in fighting the difficult looking battles those days. This is the biggest honour received by a Marathi film.

The film had presented Chinmay Mandlekar in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with Mrunal Kulkarni playing his mother Jijamata.

Director Digpal Lanjekar known for making films on such historical battles and was heroes, was inspired by the battle fought by Baji Prabhu Deshpande and hence decided to make a film to enable the audience to feel his bravery act in cinematic form. During the muhurat ceremony director Digpal Lanjekar and actor Chinmay Mandlekar performed the pooja. On this occasion other artistes of the film like Ankit Mohan, Harish Dudhade, Hrishi Saxena, Vikram Gaikwad, Rohan Mankani and Sushrut Mankani were present.

Produced by Ajay Aniruddh Aarekar this film is expected to release in the month of June.
