Fakt Marathi channel which is known for offering good entertainment, will be offering entertainment in the month of May by offering series of super hit Marathi films. Making this announcement Fakta Marathi Business Head Mr. Shyam Malekar said, “Due to lockdown, people sitting at home are already under stress due to spread of corona virus. And therefore holding the premiere of every super hit film daily, will offering good entertainment to the home viewers. These thirty films selected are not only popular films at the national level but also received good response at the international level.”

There have been many feature films made in Marathi on popular rulers of India who fought against the invasion by outsiders. And one of them was Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. But, behind every successful King there are many unsung heroes, whose bravery acts are not known to all, especially the new generation. There is enough scope to make films on their lives and latest released Marathi film ‘Farzand’ is the best example.

Being a period film, the story of this film revolves around one such brave Soldier from Chhhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army. Little before his official crowning ceremony , Shivaji Maharaj feels that his main wish hasn’t been fulfilled yet and hence insists that his crowning ceremony will be held only after capturing the historical Panhala Fort, Off. Kolhapur. So, he selects a brave young fighter Kondaji Farzand trained by his ex commander Late Tanaji Malusare, to lead the attack.

Being the most difficult task, the Kind asks Farzand how many soldiers in thousands he would need, but the brave hero opts for only 60 best soldiers to be part of his team. With his Special 60, Farzand plans his  tricky attack, which has been skilfully pictured by director Digpal Lanjekar with the help of action director Prashant Naik and expert cinematographer Kedar Gaikwad.

However, this 155 minute length film has wasted a lot of time in unwanted conversations and  few action scenes, especially in post interval and climax part, which is the only drawback of this film. Also there is lot of bloodshed with continuous stabbing  during the actual battle, in the climax, which could have been avoided with the help of special effects.   Otherwise, the director has succeeded in offering the best talent from among the Marathi artistes, including the hero Ankit Mohan playing the title role, who is a non Maharashtrian. In the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj , Chinmay Mandlekar is very convincing. In the role of Jijamata, Mrinal Kulkarni has given her best by modulating her voice very well to suit her older character. Prasad Oak has found a good role of Bahirji Naik and he succeeds in bringing some humour into this war film. Good support comes from other artistes like Mrunmayee Deshpande, Harish Dudhade, Astaad Kale, Neha Joshi, Nikhil Raut and above all Sameer Dharmadhikari, who has portrayed the cruel Moghul King Beshak Khan effectively.

Overall, it is a good effort from film maker Digpal Lanjekar. Those who like to watch war films based on Maratha history, would certainly love to watch this film.

After witnessing three Marathi films ‘Bucket List’, ‘Raja’ & ‘Sobat‘ last Friday, we now understand that four more Marathi films namely, ‘Farzand ‘, ‘Maska‘, ‘Bedhadak‘ and ‘Gadbad Jhali’ have lined up for release coming Friday. If we look at the opening day bookings of last Friday, we find that except ‘Bucket List’ no other film has been able to invite the attention of film lovers. And the reason is obvious. After all the Dhak Dhak actress of Bollywood was opening her second innings with her grand debut in Marathi. And, this was enough for the film to get its seats booked online with an overwhelming response, before every show in multiplex.

Now, can this happen with any of these three films to be released next Friday ? Only time will tell. But, if we look at the past experience of many Marathi films, whatever is realistic and based on facts and true stories is well accepted by Marathi audience. In addition to this the screenplay of the film has to be strong, so as to keep the audience engaged from start to finish. Now, looking at the theme of these films, ‘Farjand’ has a backdrop of history during the regime Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and therefore much will depend on film’s presentation and performances of artistes. The other film ‘Maska’ has a common factor in the form of Chinmay Mandlekar, who is also playing prominent role in ‘Farjand’. With other popular artistes, ‘Maska’ is directed by Priyadarshan Jadhav, indicates that it could be a comedy film. Santosh Manjrekar is making his comeback as a director with a so called action film ‘Bedhadak’ coming Friday. And the fourth film ‘Gadbad Ghotala’ by writer- director Santram promises a comedy, as suggested through this film’s poster.

Marathi film makers have till now presented period films based on history. Now, one such film on a great warrior Kondaji Farzand in Maratha history will be presented on big screen through forthcoming Marathi film ‘Farzand‘ by director Digpal Lanjekar. It may be recalled that Kondaji Farzand along with Mavalas had successfully captured Fort Panhala. ‘Farzand‘ film will be released next year on 11^th May 2018 all over Maharashtra. Recently, the first look poster of this film was unveiled by Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare.

Speaking on the occasion Shivshair Purandare said that this will be a grand historical war film which will educate the audience about the history of Marathas during the era of the great Kind Shivaji Maharaj. This will be the debut film of director Digpal Lanjekar, made under the banner of Swami Samarth Movies by producers Anirban Sarkar, Sandeep Jadhav, Mahesh Jaurkar & Swapnil Potdar.
