Gautam Joglekar has a strong background of film and stage; having been blessed by renowned personalities like Sai Paranjape and Arun Joglekar. As an actor, we saw very little of him; but as a film maker, he proved his ability through his first film ‘Pak Pak Pakak’. This time he strikes with something big in the form of ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ a commercial Marathi film with music and Marathi culture as its base. The story of the film revolves around one of the leading tennis players in the world -Ashwini Stevenson (Anusha Dandekar), who is on a short trip to her motherland.
Having been deserted by her biological mother after her birth, Ashwini is adopted by her American mother from a children’s home in Pune, when she was just four years old. After attaining a celebrity status, she does not forget the culture of her birthplace and does her duty by donating 10% of her earnings towards charity. On her short visit to Maharashtra, she is a guest of Royal Mohite family from Kolhapur. They depute their young son Vishal (Hemant Dhome) to receive her and take her around tourist places on their way to Kolhapur from Mumbai. Among many other experiences, she is also invited as a special guest at the children’s home, where she has spent her early childhood.
During this short journey, Ashwini comes across a TV anchor (Aditi Govitrikar), a trainee Journalist- Rajat and his parents Dilip & Amruta Rege ( Mahesh Manjrekar & Mrinal Kulkarni). Ashwini is a fun loving young girl who loves to be part of the traditional festival and food in India, but Vishal is over protective about her food and is constantly accompanying her, during her short trip as her guide. He falls in love with her and Ashwini too loves his innocence. When Ashwini lands in Pune, she is shocked to discover the presence of her real mother around.
At the stroke of interval, the audience also becomes aware of the reality, besides Ashwini, who hates her biological mother for having deserted her, after her birth. Director Gautam Joglekar has tried to link the sequences with flashback, to reveal the truth behind the happenings of the past. The electronic media goes after the story, with the rival channels competing with each other trying to cover different angles. But, as the film’s story moves on, we find the breaks in the form of songs offering good music by four different music composers. The film concludes with a happy ending, when Ashwini gets ready to return back.
‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ has tried to offer a different type of entertainment with a new subject, with special emphasis on the culture of Maharashtra. Very cleverly, the director has tried to use his sponsors, during Ashwini’s trip to Pune, supported by a song; suggesting the importance of the historical city. With the inclusion of Mahesh Manjrekar and Mrinal Kulkarni, he has tried
to make the film emotion filled and at the same time he moves simultaneously with the fun loving pair of Hemant and Anusha. With the help of Siddharth, he has offered a character of a confused son, whose mother suffers from a neurological disorder. There are many other characters in the film, who form a big team to bring some relief to the serious subject.
What makes the film more interesting, is its presentation. There is no doubt that all the artistes have responded well through their respective characters. But, without the excellent camera work, perfect editing and good music, it would have turned out to be a serious tale. Both Mahesh Manjrekar and Mrinal Kulkarni have given their best performances, with a perfect understanding between them for every scene. Siddharth Chandekar displays his skills through his emotions as and when he got an opportunity. Anusha Dandekar is the perfect choice for the role of Ashwini, because of her accent and looks. She impresses in that role. But, it is Hemant Dhome, who in the lead role of Vishal Mohite has invited all the attention. He is simply superb!
The film does have few drifts; like inclusion of four friends of the hero and a song sequence with them and the unnecessary sting operation by a TV channel, involving Amruta and Ashwini . These are not ethical practices, at least by Marathi news network. But, barring these few scenes, the film has tried to present something sensible to the Marathi viewers. ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ is a film for all, who respect Marathi culture.

“Tomorrow is a big day for me”- Hemant Dhome
Few years ago, he was in UK doing his Masters in ‘Wild Life Conservation’. The feeling of loneliness brought him back to India and he really started thinking seriously about ‘acting’ as his career. Hemant Dhome was not new to this field, as he had performed at the Inter collegiate level before, while he studied in Garware College, Pune.
Besides acting, Hemant was also passionate about writing. His association with friends like Sameer Vidhwans and Kshitij Patwardhan, prompted him to do a play ‘Nava Gadee Nave Rajya’ which became a hit within six months of its release and won many awards. Hemant was also adjudged the best supporting actor, for his wonderful performance in this play, which also brought him into limelight. It may be recalled that Hemant was also part of the film ‘Kshanbhar Vishranti’ where he not only played the role of one of the four friends, but was also involved into screenplay writing of this film along with Sachit Patil, who directed this film, besides acting. Hemant was also part of writing, for the film ‘Satarangee Re’.
Now, we find him in the lead role in Gautam Joglekar’s new film ‘Jai jai Maharashtra Majha’ opposite Anusha Dandekar. The film is all set for release on Friday.
25th May all over Maharashtra. Marathi Movie world spoke to Hemant, a day before the release of this film. Excerpts from an interview:
Hemant Dhome
Q: First of all, hearty Congratulations! We heard the good news of your marriage to Kshiti, who also belongs to your field.
A: Oh! Thanks a lot.
Q: So, how do you feel today, Hemant ? Tomorrow , your film ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ is all set for release.
A: I am excited. But, at the same time, I am little nervous, thinking, as to how the audience would respond to my performance. It is a big project of Gautam dada and I am glad to be a part of this film, that too in the lead role.
Q: Tell us, how you got selected for this role ? Did you know Gautam Joglekar before?
A: Yes, I knew Gautam Joglekar for the past four –five years. To tell you about my selection, one day I received a phone call from Gautam da, asking me where I was. That day, I was in Pune. He asked me to immediately come to Mumbai. When I met him, he narrated me the script in brief and offered me this role. I was thrilled, as it was not only a lead role, but was a challenging role.
Q: How was your experience, working in this film ?
A: Oh! It was a great experience working with a director like Gautam and other artistes. Siddharth has been a good friend, but it was a pleasure working with senior artistes like Mahesh Manjrekar and Mrinal Kulkarni. Even Anusha has done very well. It was a good team work.
Q: We did watch you promoting this film on television, offering Anusha her favourite dish ‘Varan-Bhaat’ ( Rice and Curry) . But, which is your favourite dish ?
A: I too prefer home made food, be it simple Chapati and home made vegetable and Varan-Bhaat made by my mother; I just love it. But, I also enjoy Non-Veg food, occasionally. I also love to cook the food, with my own recipe.
Q: You are also a good cook. Isn’t it?
A: I had to learn cooking on my own, while I was doing my Masters in UK. While you are away and lonely, you get into this habit of cooking, to avoid outside food.
Q: Now that you have found your better half in Kshiti, who is also from your field of acting; tell us, how it all happened?
A: Kshiti had watched my performance in ‘Nava Gadee Nave Rajya’ and since then she approved me. Later, when we did the play ‘Saavdhaan Shubhamangal’, it brought us more closer, only to help our ‘Shubhamangal’ happen in real life.
Q: Now, you are a full time actor and also a writer. How do you look at Marathi cinema?
A: In Marathi cinema, ‘script is the hero’. Stronger the script, better and effective the presentation.
Q: You are not associated with television serials, but you were part of the entertainment show- ‘Fu Bai Fu’. Did you consider performing in such show, more challenging?
A: Yes, in such shows, you can offer variety. There is a good scope to test your ability.
Q: After the release of ‘JJMM’, do you have other projects ?
A : Yes, there are two films in pipeline. I am associated with their script too.
Q: Okay Hemant. Tomorrow is a big day for you. We wish you all the best.
A: Oh! Thanks a lot.
Music of ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’ launched on a grand scale
Film maker Gautam Joglekar is back again. After ‘Pak Pak Pakak’, this time he has something big to offer in the form of new Marathi film ‘Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha’, which is scripted and directed by him. On Monday evening, the music of this film was launched on a grand scale at MIG Club, Mumbai in presence of Shiv Sena President Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi Thackeray, Ms. Sai Paranjape besides the stars, unit members of the film and many invitees from Marathi entertainment industry.
Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha
After releasing the Music CD of the film Mr. Gautam Joglekar appealed to Mr. Uddhav Thackeray to come for the premiere of the film to be held on the occasion of Maharashtra day and the shrewd politician quickly responded, “If I am invited, I will surely come.” Thankfully, there were no speeches on the occasion and even the bouquet presentations were restricted to the chief guests-Mr. Thackeray and Mr. Aniruddha Deshpande, Managing Director of City Corporation. Mr. Deshpande belongs to Amanora Group, who are the main sponsors of this film, as indicated by Gautam Joglekar. Sanjay Ghodavat Group are presenting this film, which also has many co sponsors.
Before the release of music, the hosts had arranged the first look of the film, when during screening of one song on leading lady Anusha Dandekar, they offered a surprise. To complete the song on the screen, Anusha with few dancers appeared on the stage and performed the dance live, only to receive a laud applause from the invitees. Prior to this show, when Mr. Uddhav Thackeray arrived with his wife and was asked to occupy his seat in the first row, he noticed Ms. Sai Paranjape on the other side. He immediately approached the veteran film maker, to wish her and spent few minutes with her.
‘Jai jai Maharashtra’ is a tale of a young girl Ashwini, who is adopted by an American couple at the age of 4, from an orphanage in Pune. After becoming a Top tennis player in the world, she returns to India only to offer donation to the Orphanage. Her trip is sponsored by Mohite family from Kolhapur and they depute their son Vishal (Hemmant Dhome) to receive her at Mumbai airport. On her journey to Mumbai-Pune-Kolhapur and back on the same track, she comes across many people including a photo-Journalist – Rajat (Siddharth Chandekar), a couple Dilip and Amruta Rege (Mahesh Manjrekar and Mrunal Kulkarni) and many others.
During her stay at these places, Ashwini is highly impressed by the culture and loves all the places she visits. The director has cleverly picturised a song on Pune city to highlight the rich heritage of the historical place. The music for this song has been specially composed by Yashwant Deo. There are total four Music directors for this film including Gautam himself for one song, besides Ajit Parab and K.C. Loy, the official Music director.
Speaking to Marathi Movie world after the function, Gautam said that he would release the film in May after the 2 premiere shows to be held on 30th April and 1st May respectively. About the selection of Anush Deshpande for the lead role, he said that there was no other girl, to meet the requirements of this role. Anush should have been dressed up in tennis kit; but, since she was to perform on the occasion, she was presented in a traditional Nine yard saree with typical Maharashtrian look. Among the other invitees were artistes of the film, Mahesh Manjrekar, Mrunal Kulkarni, Aditi Govatrikar, Yatin Karyekar, Hemant Dhome, Siddharth Chandekar. Also present on the occasion to wish the unit were Aniket Vishwasrao with Pallavi Subhash, Santosh Juvekar, Jitendra Joshi, Adinath Kothare, Atul Sarpotdar, Manva Naik, Kshiti Jog , Music director K.C. Loy and many others.
