The title of the film ‘YZ‘ may sound weird, but don’t confuse it for something offensive. The makers of this film, writer Kshitij Patwardhan & Sameer Vidwans have described the meaning of the title as ‘attitude’ of a person in this film. The writer and director duo have already given us films like ‘Time Please‘, which was inspired by their own play ‘Nava Gadi Nava Rajya‘ and last year’s hit film ‘Double Seat‘ , inspired by old Marathi film ‘Mumbaicha Javai‘.
Through their latest film ‘YZ‘ they have presented a humour filled story of a 33 year old bachelor College professor Gajanan Kulkarni ( Sagar Deshmukh) from Wai, who suffers inferiority complex, when it comes to selection of a suitable bride. One day, he is asked by his college principal to go on six months deputation to a college in Pune. After arrival to this new place, he faces a big challenge, as the students from his class are more advanced and mischievous. But, Gajanan finds a good friend , philosopher and guide in one of those students Shyamsunder Prajapati, popularly known as Battis, who helps him to bring in that desired change in his personality.

After taking lessons from Battis, we do notice a big change in Gajanan, as he becomes smarter to understand who could be the right choice for him. During this period, first Parnarekha ( Sai Tamhankar) comes to his life, as proposed by his aunt living in Pune, so that he should settle down in his life, by marrying this 29 year old woman who is too religious. Then comes Antara( Parna Pethe) , his sister’s friend, who is just 20 years old. Antara, who is highly impressed by Gajanan’s Knowledge of Sanskrit and falls in love with him, after taking special tuition of this language from him.
In the meanwhile, he also meets his childhood friend Sailee, who is a divorcee with a little daughter, but in relationship with her friend. When Gajanan is in a dilemma, he consults Battis, who suggests him to take his own decision. Finally, Gajanan does take his own decision. The film has been presented very well, except for becoming little lengthy, in the second half. But, the sequences during Gajanan’s stay in Pune have been made interesting, by the writer and director. The use of Kalidasa’s Shakuntala has been used very well in the Sanskrit song picturisation on Sagar and Parna. Music has therefore played an important role in two songs.
Both Sagar Deshmukh and Akshay Tanksale have proved their class through their respective characters. Sagar in particular has shown his transformation in him, very well through his body language. The credit should also go to his make up artist and dress designer. The scenes picturised on Sagar and Akshay do remind us about the humour created by I.S.Johar and Joy Mukherjee in the 1967 Bollywood Super hit film ‘Shagird‘ Sai Tamhankar has done well through her sober kind of character, while Parna Pethe has proved that she could be the choice of Marathi filmmakers , for Mod-type of roles. The director has also exploited her dancing skills. Mukta Barve has limited role in this film, but, she has made her presence felt, through that lively character of Sailee.
Good support comes from other artistes. Sudhakar Reddy’s cinematography is appealing and so is the sound design of Anmol Bhave, while capturing the life of Wai and liveliness of Pune. The film ‘YZ‘ is targeted not only at the young collegians; but also at married couples and elders. In short, it offers quality entertainment, despite its odd title. Don’t miss it.
‘YZ’ trailer launched in absence of lead actor

Many a times, we find the lead character of the film missing during the music or trailer launch of Marathi films. This was observed during the trailer launch of forthcoming Marathi film ‘YZ‘. In absence of Akshay Tanksale, one of the lead actors, his cut out was displayed at the venue, to indicate his presence during the group photographs with other lead artistes. By the way, Akshay was shooting in London for another film and hence could not make it for this function.
But, during this trailer launch all others connected with ‘YZ‘ film , right from producers Sanjay Chhabriya, Anish Jog, writer Kshitij Patwardhan & director Sameer Vidwans to artistes Sagar Deshmukh, Saii Tamhankar, Mukta Barve, Parna Pethe were present. The trailer of this film clearly indicated that each one of the artistes were playing variety of characters, with a big surprise coming from Saii Tamhankar, who is playing the character of a simple looking bespectacled god fearing woman. Mukta Barve is playing a mod girl, while Parna Pethe plays an unusual character of a Mod girl, who is studying Sanskrit.
The film has already raised curiosity over its title. Now, it remains to be seen, how it defines its title, when the film is released on 12th August 2016.

‘YZ’ will present Mukta Barve, Sai Tamhankar & Parna Pethe together

We have seen two popular Marathi actresses coming together. But, forthcoming Marathi film ‘YZ‘ will present popular actress Mukta Barve not only with Sai Tamhankar; but also with ‘Rama Madhav‘ fame Parna Pethe. All three of them will be seen together, for the first time. Director Sameer Vidwans has succeeded in bringing three of them together, to present female versions of his male dominated film. Though Sagar Deshmukh and Akshay Tanksale play the lead male roles, the three actresses have equally important characters.
According to the director, all three of them have different types of roles , which will be appreciated by Marathi film lovers. Vidhi Kasliwal’s ‘Vazandaar’ towards completion

After making a film like ‘Sangato Aika‘ with Sachin Pilgaonkar, Vidhi Kasliwal is now towards completion of her new venture ‘Vazandaar‘ under the banner of Landmarc Films, with another exciting subject and an equally talented star cast, comprising of Priya Bapat Kamat, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Chandekar, Chirag Patil and Chetan Chitnis.
Director Sachin Kundalkar, well known for dealing with unique topics through his films, has come up with yet another compelling story. ‘ Vazandaar‘ has a very personal subject and it struck the chords with producer Vidhi Kasliwal, who has been all praise for the writer- director. ” Sachin is a very sensitive and sharp person who open-mindedly takes all suggestions and beautifully weaves them into the layers of the film,” says Vidhi Kasliwal.
Till now, nobody knows what the story is about, about Marathi film lovers will be keen to watch Priya and Sai together in ‘Vazandaar’.
Swwapnil’s ‘Teen Devian’ launch trailer of his film ‘Laal Ishq’

If at all remake of popular old musical Hindi film ‘Teen Devian‘ was made in Marathi, with Swwapnil Joshi asked to select his three Devian, he would select Sai Tamhankar, Sonalee Kulkarni and Mukta Barve. Incidentally, with each one of them, Swwapnil has given three hit films in Marathi in the recent past. Like true friends, all three of them were seen together, as special guests, to launch the trailer of his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Laal Ishq‘ produced by Popular Hindi film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi.
All three of them were all praise for Swwapnil Joshi for being such a wonderful co star, besides a good friend. “It’s a big moment for Swapnil, as he is part of this film, which is produced by popular Bollywood film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I am here to share this happy moment with him,” said Mukta Barve. Both Sai and Sonalee wished him a grand success on this occasion and hoped to attend the success party of this soon. All three of them also greeted Swapnil’s new leading lady in this film Anjana Sukhani.
Also present on this occasion were Sameedha Guru, Sneha Chavan, Piyush Ranade, Jaywant Wadkar, who are also playing important roles in this film. Music directors Nilesh Moharir, Amitraj, DOP Prasad Bhende, co producer Shabinaa Khan were also present on this occasion. From the trailer, it gives an impression that this film is a murder mystery.
Colors make Marathi Filmfare award a memorable event

Every Marathi film award function, when telecast on television channel, try to capture more and more audience, with entertaining programme. On Sunday 28th February evening Colors Marathi TV channel focused more on these entertaining events. Instead wasting much time on boring parody and skits, more attention was paid on sizzling dances performed by well known artistes from Marathi film industry. The use of laser show, cleverly used in offering special effects, during the songs, made it something special.
The programme started off well, with good performances by Adinath Kothare, Neha Pendse and Manasi Naik. Top Dancing actress Amruta Khanvilkar presented a wonderful dance performance and so was the dance performance presented by Sonali Kulkarni. Prasad oak and Pushkar Shrotri who shared the dais as show anchors, did a very good job, with the help of well written script.
The awards announced for the year 2014, in different categories, were not at all surprising and those who deserved, found the prestigious ‘black lady’ in their hands. Veteran Ramesh Deo, who is still active at 90, was the most appropriate choice for the Lifetime Achievement award and the same was presented to him by his family members, which was also good thinking, by the hosts. The Grand Old man of Marathi film industry has also completed 68 years of his non stop acting career, which certainly needs a special mention. But, the veteran actor, did not speak much, instead he thanked all those right from his parents to family members and those who offered him suitable roles, during the initial period of his struggle.
There were many non Marathi Bollywood artistes noticed, while giving away the awards; but barring Vidya Balan and Tabbu, none of them tried to speak in Marathi. But, our own Marathi Mulgi from Bollywood Urmila matondkar, while giving away one of the awards, delivered a sensible speech in Marathi, as she wished not only all award winners, but also all those, who were nominated. And, this was a fine gesture, shown by her.
Overall, this film awards programme was really well presented and very entertaining.

Marathi film makers are opening doors for TV artistes

The journey of most of the talented artistes in the acting field, has been from stage to television and finally the feature films. The best examples are artistes like Vikram Gokhale, Nana Patekar, Reema Lagoo, Usha Nadkarni, Shivaji Satam, Ramesh Bhatkar, Amruta Subhash, Sunil Barve, Subodh Bhave, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Siddharth Chandekar and so on. But, now days, some of the artistes directly get into television and films, through modeling , auditions or various reality shows, held to select the best acting talents. And, if you have to be into films, you have to be an all rounder, with acting plus dance skills. Therefore, female artistes in particular are equipping themselves, by learning different forms of dances, besides acting.
However, the general observation for the past few years is that our Marathi film makers have given scope to many television artistes. Right from Sai Tamhankar, Tejaswini Pandit, Mrunmayee Deshpande, Abhijit Khandkekar, Siddharth Chandekar, Aniket Vishwasrao, Santosh Juvekar, Aditi Sarangdhar, Mukta Barve, Umesh kamat, Priya Bapat to Spruha Joshi and so on; everybody found suitable roles in Marathi films.
In the recent past, Mrunal Dusanis also found roles in Marathi films, after her successful career on television. Suyash Tilak has also found roles in films and so have Bhushan Pradhan and Sankruti Balgude, the popular pair of ‘Pinjra’. Very recently, we saw Vaibhav Tatwawadi finding good offers from Marathi films. ‘Swapnanchya Palikadle’ TV actress Gauri Nalavade made a successful debut through ‘Friends’ that too opposite Swapnil Joshi. And now, popular Marathi TV actress Priya Marathe’s two films ‘Vighnaharta Mahaganapati’ and ‘1234’ are ready for release shortly. Isn’t that a good news for our television artistes?
