‘Don’t worry, be happy’ – a timely message to today’s stressed young couples
Somebody has rightly said, “A successful marriage is falling in love with your life partner again and again.” We all know that a good married life, is based on perfect understanding between the couple. However, in today’s stressful life, the young married couples are facing a tough situation, especially when each one needs space for self. This generally happens with working couples, living independently and without having a child. New Marathi play ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy‘ gives a timely message to such stressed married couples, for solving their issues in a harmonious way.
Written by Mihir Rajda and directed by Advait Dadarkar, this play presents the story of a young working couple Akshay and Pranoti Pradhan , who are both over-occupied with their respective work commitments, with no time even for their honeymoon. Both have differences over petty issues; but Pranoti feels that the reason for her stress is the annoying habits of her husband. They keep blaming each other. But, Chintan, a close Gujarathi friend of Akshay, always tries to keep them together. One day, they plan their delayed honeymoon; but their trip is required to be cancelled due to some gynecological problem faced by Pranoti. What happens further, is very intelligently presented through the crisp dialogues written by Mihir Rajda and efficient direction of Advait Dadarkar.
There are only three main characters in this play, but you don’t feel bored at any moment, as the interaction among them, keeps the audience engaged and entertained. Wonderful performances of both Umesh Kamat and Spruha Joshi are well supported by the small role of Chintan, played by Mihir Rajda himself.
Proper light effects by Amogh Phadke, apt background music by Sai-Piyush and perfect costumes designed by Chaitrali Dongre make this play more presentable.
No wonder, ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy‘ has won various awards at the recently concluded Maharashtra State awards. A must see play for all drama lovers.

‘Paisa Paisa’ deals with an unconvincing plot
Rating: ★★
Genres: Thriller Censor: U Duration: 130 Min. Studio/presenter: The Nine Films Producer(s): Shivvilash Chaurasiya Director: Joji Raechal Job Music: Soham Ajay Pathak Cinematographer (DOP): S. Prasad, Anik Verma Cast: Sachit Patil, Spruha Joshi, Milind Shinde, Aashish Newalkar, Pankaj Vishnu, Vikas Patil Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Marathi films have made progress at the international level, for their new subjects and ability to handle ‘out of the box’ topics. But, still there are some film makers in Marathi, who believe in borrowed subjects from Hindi or remakes of south Indian films. Latest released film ‘Paisa Paisa‘ falls in this category. Produced by Shivvilash Chaurasia and directed by Joji Raechal Job, the story of this film revolves around an ad film maker Ajay ( Sachit Patil) who is already struggling in his life, with financial problems. His wife Janhavi( Spruha Joshi) , who is a Model, has separated from him for the past six months and they are in the process of patching up.
Janhavi calls Ajay to their old meeting point- a coffee shop to forget the past and start a new life. But, on his way, Ajay receives a call from his friend Rajiv ( Ashish Newalkar) that he has been kidnapped in Nagpur , where he had gone to give an interview; and the captor( Milind Shinde) had demanded Rs. 10 thousand for his release. So, he goes out of his way, to raise the money for his friend’s release, which could be deposited in his bank account. By the way, his friend Ajay is already broke like him and does not have any balance in his savings account. Before contacting Ajay, when Rajiv requests his girlfriend Neha ( Vinita Joshi) in Mumbai to remit the amount, without telling her the real story, she misunderstands him and refuses to oblige.
So, with this limited plot, we find the film’s hero begging money from all his sources, except his wife; who keeps waiting for him at the coffee shop for two long hours. Now, looking at the methods adopted by Ajay to raise money in parts from different sources, including an illegal trade, fails to convince the Marathi film audience. In today’s smart phone age , they really wondered, why the helpless hero, at a particular point, didn’t think about taking police help, especially when he receives a call from the captor’s number. Perhaps, he was not watching Marathi serials like ‘Lakshya‘ and ‘Asmita‘. Even Rajiv, who appears to be street smart, fails to stop or resist the auto-rickshaw driver, when he knows that he is being taken to an unknown destination.
With all those unconvincing happenings in the screenplay, the film reaches the climax, where again the audience is taken for granted. The only good thing about this film, is its good cinematography and background music. Lead actor Sachit Patil is impressive in his performance. Spruha Joshi is a waste in this film. Except for one title song in the beginning of the film, she doesn’t face the hero face to face, in any of the scenes. It is only conversation over phone. Milind Shinde, who plays the auto rickshaw driver, kidnapping Ajay’s friend, has delivered the same type of dialogues repeatedly, except for last scene. Artistes like Madhav Abhyankar, Pankaj Vishnu, Pushkar Shrotri, Deepali Sayed & Vinita Joshi are just namesake in this film. All in all, the film fails to appeal, for its unconvincing borrowed plot.

Sachit Patil – Spruha Joshi together in remake of south film ‘Paisa Paisa’
Remakes of South films in Marathi have received mixed response. Though a film like ‘Classmates‘ was a hit film, subsequent remakes of south films in Marathi, like ‘Time Bara Vait’, ‘Shutter‘ and ‘Vrundavan‘ didn’t receive much response. But, still the remakes of south films haven’t stopped in Marathi. Producer Shiv Vilash Chaurasia and director Joji Raechal Job, an ad film maker are now getting ready to release their film ‘Paisa Paisa‘, which is a remake of Malyalam Film with the same title.
The film presents young pair of dashing Sachit Patil and beautiful Spruha Joshi for the first time together. The music of film ‘Paisa Paisa’ was released in Mumbai recently, after unveiling the trailer and song videos of this film. According to the producer Shiv Vilash, he was inspired by the original Malyalam film’s story, which talks about the value of money and relationship. He said that he was lucky enough to find the right people at the right time, in the form of director and the distributors.
While speaking on the occasion, the director of the film Mr.Joji said that the subject of the film has been given a different treatment through this film. The lead actor and the actress will not be seen together, except for the few scenes in the romantic song of the film. “This film will not have the lip movement songs; as all the songs are played in the background, to take forward the story of this film.”
The other important artistes of the film are, Milind Shinde, Asish Nevalkar, young Hindi TV actress Vinita Joshi, Pushkar Shrotri, Deepali Sayyad, Rajendra Chawla, Pankaj Vishnu, Madhav Abhyankar & Vikas Patil. Music by Rockstar Soham Pathak and cinematography by S.Prasad Chaurasia and Anik Verma. The film is all set to release on 13th May 2016.
