Swwapnil’s return to small screen is helping him to regain popularity
Swwapnil Joshi was at the top of popularity chart among the Marathi artistes, after his serial ‘Eka Lagnachi Doosari Goshta‘ was aired four years ago. Prior to that he had already been part of Hindi and Marathi television.
As far as his career in films is concerned, he received good response for his films ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai‘( 2010), ‘Duniyadari‘(2013), ‘Mangalashtaka Once More‘(2013), ‘Mitwa‘(2015) and ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai-2‘(2015). But, at the same time, his films ‘Pyarwali Love Story‘, ‘Welcome Zindagi‘, ‘Tu Hi Re‘ and ‘Lal Ishq‘ didn’t do well during past two years. In the meanwhile, Swwapnil had also switched over to Marathi stage, playing the lead role in ‘Get Well Soon‘, which also received good audience response . But, that was not enough for him to stay on top of the popularity among the Marathi artistes. And, who doesn’t want to remain popular ?
Perhaps, realizing this, Swwapnil must have decided to take up this good offer of show host of a big reality show from a big production house, ‘Kon Hoeel Marathi Crorepati‘ on Colors Marathi. And, he seems to have taken a wise decision, as this Quiz show has been receiving very good response with Swwapnil Joshi making every pair of participant very comfortable in his presence. In short, his return to small screen, is helping him to regain his popularity. An artiste can’t remain popular in the long run, just on the basis of performance in films, he or she have to balance it well between small and big screen in order to attract the larger section of the society.
‘Laal Ishq’- offers a stereotype suspense filled drama
Rating: ★★★
Genres: Romantic, Thriller Censor: U Duration: 120 min. Studio/presenter: Bhansali Productions Producer(s): Sanjay Leela Bhansali Director: Swapna Waghmare Joshi Writer: Amit Khan Music: Amitraj Sawant, Nilesh Moharir Cinematographer (DOP): Prasad Bhende Cast: Swwapnil Joshi, Anjana Sukhani, Jaywant Wadkar, Priya Berde, Kamlesh Sawant, Samidha Guru, Piyush Ranade, Sneha Chavan, Milind Gavali, Yshashri Masurkar, Uday Nene, Farzil Perdiwala Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke |
Finally, the much awaited first Marathi film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali is releasing on this Friday. But, frankly speaking though the film has all those ingredients to offer a suspense filled plot supported by good music and best performances, it lacks the touch of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film.
Set on the backdrop of a holiday resort close to a popular hill station near Mumbai, we notice a troupe of Marathi drama arriving there, for their rehearsal. While lead pair of the drama Yash Patwardhan( Swwapnil Joshi) his co-star Shreya ( Sneha Chavan) and director Potdar( Jaywant Wadkar) arrive in a car, the rest of the artistes along with production manager arrive in a tourist bus.
On their arrival itself, the hero of this film Yash falls in love with the young beautiful Resort Manager Janhavi ( Anjana Sukhani) and then begins a real life drama in their life. Director Potdar, known for his arrogance and who is in a habit of insulting all the artistes, fires Shreya, during the rehearsal on the very first day and that annoys Yash, who decides to walk out from the drama group. In the meanwhile, Potdar catches Yash and Janhavi together red handed and he threatens them that he would inform about the same, to the owner of the resort Guru Patil( Milind Gavali) , who is engaged to Janhavi.
Soon, we find Potdar being murdered and the Police team led by Sr. Inspector Randive ( Kamalesh Sawant ) and his deputy Nandini ( Samidha Guru ) arriving at the resort, to interrogate two main suspects, Yash and Janhavi separately . But, as their detection progresses, we find two more murders taking place . During the process of interrogation, we also find Nandini falling in love with her Boss, appreciating his efforts. Finally, both succeed in solving the multiple murder case.
Though the film ‘Laal Ishq‘ belongs to Swwapnil Joshi and Anjana Sukhani, for their good performances, director Swapna Waghmare Joshi has given enough scope to the two police officers, played by Kamlesh & Samidha. In fact, all the other important artistes in this film, namely Jaywant Wadkar, Sneha Chavan, Milind Gavali, Piyush Ranade have found prominent roles. Good support also comes from Uday Nene & Yashasvi Masurkar. However, senior artiste like Priya Berde has been wasted in this film.
One can understand the skills of the director to unfold the mystery, by showing all the important happenings through flashback, during the police interrogation; but still you find something missing. The reason is simple. All the happenings take place at one place, i.e. at the resort in the indoors. But, still Prasad Bhende’s cinematography is worth appreciating and so is the music by Amitraj and Nilesh Moharir, through those two good songs. The other two areas of appreciation are costumes and art direction.
All in all, though ‘Laal Ishq‘ offers a stereotype suspense filled drama with good music and fine performances, this two hour long film, fails to create the desired impact, as expected from a celebrity Bollywood film maker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali known for his majesty and Swapna Waghmare Joshi , who offered us a hit Marathi film like ‘Mitwa‘.

Swwapnil’s ‘Teen Devian’ launch trailer of his film ‘Laal Ishq’
If at all remake of popular old musical Hindi film ‘Teen Devian‘ was made in Marathi, with Swwapnil Joshi asked to select his three Devian, he would select Sai Tamhankar, Sonalee Kulkarni and Mukta Barve. Incidentally, with each one of them, Swwapnil has given three hit films in Marathi in the recent past. Like true friends, all three of them were seen together, as special guests, to launch the trailer of his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Laal Ishq‘ produced by Popular Hindi film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi.
All three of them were all praise for Swwapnil Joshi for being such a wonderful co star, besides a good friend. “It’s a big moment for Swapnil, as he is part of this film, which is produced by popular Bollywood film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and I am here to share this happy moment with him,” said Mukta Barve. ‘Laal Ishq’ promotion begins with a bang
If it is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali Film, it has to begin its promotion in a big way, no matter, it’s a Marathi film. So, ‘Laal Ishq ..Gupit Aahe Sakshila‘ First poster was out, in presence of entire team of the film, except Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Perhaps, he wants to present himself to Marathi media, during the music launch of the film. But the co producer of the film Shabina Khan and director Swapna Waghmare were present along with the entire star cast of the film.
Dressed up in designer clothes, both Swwapnil Joshi and Anjana Sukhani gave a glimpse of their get- up in this film. Co-producer Shabina Khan , who has designed the clothes for many Bollywood films, is also the costume designer of this film. And, her work was also clearly displayed, with the black dresses sported by the lead pair. Music of this film is by AmitRaj , while the film also stars popular TV artistes like Kamlesh Sawant, Piyush Ranade, Sameedha Guru, besides other artistes like Jaywant Wadkar, Priya Berde, Milind Gavali, Uday Nene, Yashashri Masurkar & Farzil Perdiwala.

Shooting for ‘Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai’ sequel to begin
‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai’ was a runaway hit a few years ago. It helped Swwapnil Joshi to find his base in Marathi films, after working in hindi television shows. Through this film, Mukta Barve once again proved her mettle as a splendid performer. Though Mukta is not visible on screen these days, Swwapnil has become a sought after star, of Marathi films.
Satish Rajwade, who directed ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai’, wanted to make sequel of the same, for quite some time now. Almost five years have passed after the release of ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai’, but, it was getting delayed due to various reasons. Now, it seems he is all ready to roll the sequel and will start the shooting soon. He wants the complete team of the original film on board this time too, like Mirah Entertainment, Director of photography Suhas Gujrati, Music duo Avinash-Vishwajit, Editor Rajesh Rao, co-writer Parag Kulkarni, all technicians, and even the spot boys.
The sequel will be called ‘Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai-2′ with a tagline … ‘Lagnala Yayachach’. The makers are targeting for a Diwali release. One thing for sure, superstition does prevail in entertainment world!
