Will Rucha Inamdar create her magic in Marathi film industry ?
Today there are many Marathi actresses, who are waiting for their turn to work with Marathi’s superstar Swwapnil Joshi. But, not all of them are lucky. Barring few like Mukta Barve, Sai Tamhankar, Urmila Kanitkar, Amruta Khanvilkar, Prarthana Behere & Sonalee Kulkarni there are others, who are in the waiting. But, what if a newcomer like Rucha Inamdar gets a chance to work with him in a forthcoming Marathi film ? Obviously, the model turned actress will be delighted.
Marathi Movie World experienced the excitement and happiness on her face, during the launch of her debut Marathi film ‘Bhikari‘ recently at a reputed hotel in Mumbai. Rucha Inamdar was in seventh heaven that evening, as Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the capacity of chief guest, gave the clap of her film. Another popular young Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff also shared the dais standing on one side, while her hero Swwapnil Joshi was there on the other side.
Speaking to Marathi Movie World after the function, Rucha Inamdar admitted that it was the most memorable moment in her life, though she had worked earlier in two film projects, namely ‘Children of War‘ (2014 film) and ‘Under the Same Sun‘ ( 2015) film. She also appeared in a small role in multi starrer film ‘Ventilator‘. Rucha had also done a TV commercial for VIP Skybags with John Abraham. When asked, as to how she was selected for this role, she said, “Actually, Rohan Mapuskar had taken my audition for a previous project. So, when director Ganesh Acharya was looking for female lead opposite Swwapnil Joshi in this film, he suggested my name and that’s how I was selected.”
Shooting of this film will begin shortly and is likely to complete by February 2017. So, next year we have a new actress in Marathi films. Luckily for her, she has found a good script and top hero of Marathi to start with. Now, it remains to be seen, whether Rucha Inamdar creates her magic in Marathi film industry? ‘Kanha’ may open new innings for Kiran Karmarkar
A big banner, proper promotion of the film and distribution of the film through proper channel, helps an actor, who is part of the film. Now, if we talk about talented actor Kiran Karmarkar, he could establish himself on Hindi television and Hindi films, because he was lucky to find a lead role in Ektaa Kapoor’s serial ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki‘ 15 years ago. Thereafter, he has been continuously seen in Hindi serials on different channels. Recently, we saw him playing Anuja Sathe’s father in the Hindi serial ‘Tamanna‘. During the past few years, he has been the favourite of Film maker Prakash Jha, having performed in his films like ‘Rajneeti‘ and ‘Chakravyuh‘ . He is also there in his forthcoming film.
Besides working in Hindi, Kiran has also been performing in Marathi films. Some of his films of the past have been ‘Nishpaap‘, ‘Kshanokshani ‘, ‘Aarohi‘,’Aaghaat‘,’Pune 52‘,’Janiva‘, ‘Bhatukali‘ & ‘Shasan‘. Unfortunately, most if these Marathi films either didn’t do good business or were not promoted properly. But now, Kiran is all set to present himself in a full fledged negative role in Avadhoot Gupte‘s forthcoming film ‘Kanha‘ which will be released on 26th August 2016. The film is produced by well known builder and MLA Pratap Sarnaik and distributed by Zee Studios.
Playing a main villain in this film, Kiran Karmarkar is certainly curious to know, how the Marathi audience and film critics would respond to his role. Marathi Movie World spoke to Kiran, during the grand music release of this film, when many dignitaries from Political field, business and Bollywood industry were present in large number. “Yes, I am overwhelmed with this response. Thanks to Avadhoot Gupte, for selecting me for this role of a main villain. I don’t want to say much about the story, which is on the backdrop of Govinda festival, but I can tell you one thing that the film ends with my end too. I have even done some stunt scenes in this film,” he said.
“I feel I was lucky to find roles in time” – Sandeep Gaikwad
Today Marathi television and film industry have many such actors, who have come from different parts of the state like Pune, Kolhapur, Nashik, Sangli, Konkan and even far off places like Nagpur & Aurangabad. One of them is from Satara. Sandeep Gaikwad after finishing his education in Electronics Engineering B.E.( Electrocis), came to Mumbai on a job assignment, but his interest in Marathi drama, brought him in contact with some TV serial makers and Sandeep shifted his focus on acting and preferred this profession as his career. Luckily, he found roles in TV serials, which helped him to survive in this high profile city of Mumbai. “I feel, I was lucky to find roles in time.” says Sandeep, when we initiated our discussion with him.
Sandeep was fortunate to find roles in different TV serials, on almost all Marathi TV channels. Besides ‘Kalat Nakalat’ on Zee, he was also part of ‘Mangalsutra’ on Mee Marathi and ‘Parijat’ on Saam TV. Then, there were about ten serials, in which we noticed him in important roles, including ‘Vachan Dile tu Mala’. Presently, he is seen in Zee Marathi’s serial ‘Nanda Saukhyabhare’ playing a prominent role. Sandip was seen in his debut Marathi film ‘Poshter Boyz’, followed by ‘Dagadi Chawl’ and now he is playing a central character of a Sports Coach, in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Yaari Dosti’.
Speaking about his entry in Marathi films, Sandeep doesn’t forget to thank his senior Ankush Choudhary. “Actually, Ankush was so impressed with my performance in ‘Poshter Boyz’ that he recommended my name for a role in ‘Dagadi Chawl’. Luckily, for me, both the films turned out to be hit films. So, I am hopeful that with ‘Yaari Dosti’ I make a hat trick. In this field, it is very important to find roles one after the other. And, at present, I am focusing more on roles in films.” says Sandeep.
Over the years, Sandeep has worked very hard over his fitness. Since his school days, he has played cricket, representing his school. “ Actually, I have taken active interest in all sports, but, cricket has always been my favourite sports. I am glad that I am playing a sports coach in my forthcoming Marathi film ‘Yaari Dosti’. If you have seen Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Chak De India’, then, this role, is of that type.” he says with a smile.
While talking to Sandeep, you realize that he is very passionate about films. When we asked him, whether he sees all the films, he quickly reacted, “I see all new released Hindi and Marathi films. I do find time for the same. English films I see only on television. I just love to watch films. And, I don’t even miss foreign language films, which are shown at different film festivals in Mumbai.”
Sandeep has earned name and fame through TV serials. Now, he is focusing more on films and he is getting good offers. We only wish that he does a hat trick with his forthcoming film ‘Yaari Dosti’ also becoming a hit.

प्र: आज दूरदर्शनद्वारा तुम्ही महाराष्ट्राच्या काना कोपऱ्यात पोहोचलात. तुमचे काम लोकांना आवडतेय. तुमच्या आज पर्यंतच्या प्रवासाबद्दल थोडं सांगा.
उ: माझा प्रवास अतिशय ग्राउंड लेव्हल वरून झालाय. अमरावतीला मी थिएटर करायचो. १९९८ ला मी मुंबईत आलो. नाटक, मालिका, चित्रपटांशी निगडीत,मिळेल ते काम केले. मग ते मेक-अप असेल किंवा आर्ट डिपार्टमेंटचे असो, ते मी करायचो. काम करता करता, मी त्यांच्याकडे रोल मागायचो. पहिला ब्रेकमिळवायला खूप कष्ट घ्यावे लागले. पण नंतर काम मिळाल्यावर, लोकांना वाटलं कि मी चांगला ऍक्टर आहे. हळू हळू काम मिळणे सोपे होत गेले आणि एक एक करता करता, मी दूरदर्शनच्या मालिकांमधून पण झळकलो. मग माझं काम लोकांना आवडत गेलं. आणि मला दिग्दर्शकाचे फोन यायला सुरवात झाली. शेवटी एवढच की, काम छोटे असो की मोठे. तुम्ही ते काम इमानदारीत करणे महत्वाचे आहे. प्रामाणिक प्रयत्नांना यश नक्की मिळते.
प्र: ‘बरड’ चित्रपटातील तुमच्या भुमिकेबद्दल थोडक्यात सांगा ?
उ : ‘बरड’ म्हणजे अशी जमीन, जिथे काहीच पिकत नाही. फक्त दगड असलेली जमीन. फारफार तर पाऊस पडला तर गवत उगवतं . अश्या जमिनीला काही भाव नसतो. ह्याची जमीन त्याला आणि त्याची जमीन ह्याला, असा जमिनीचा व्यवहार करणाऱ्या दलालाची व्यक्तिरेखा मी ह्या सिनेमात साकारलीय.
प्र: प्रेक्षकांनी हा सिनेमा का बघावा? सिनेमा बद्दल थोडं सांगा.
उ: मुळात जमिनीतील व्यवहारांबद्दलची जागरूकता आहे. चित्रपट दाखवलेली जमीन विक्रीची फसवणून हि जी समस्या आहे ती शहर आणि ग्रामीण अशा दोन्ही ठिकाणी पाहायला मिळते. अफवांवर विश्वास ठेऊन कशी फसवणूक होते आणि मग संपूर्ण कुंटुंब कसे उध्वस्त होऊ शकते, ह्यावर हा सिनेमा आहे. फसवणुकीच वातावरण सगळीकडे निर्माण झालय, त्यासाठीच हा चित्रपट लोकांनी बघावा. आणि एखादी अफवा माणसाच्या आयुष्यात किती वाईट नुकसान करू शकते. ह्याचे चित्रण ह्या सिनेमात केलय.
प्र: हल्ली संपूर्णपणे केवळ मनोरंजन, धांगडधिंगाणा असलेले सिनेमे, हे जास्त प्रमाणात प्रेक्षकांच्या आवडीस उतरत आहेत. ‘बरड’ सारखा वास्तववादी सिनेमा पाहणारा प्रेक्षक कमी होताना दिसतो, तुम्हाला काय वाटतं ?
उ: हा सिनेमा वास्तववादी आहे. पण त्याची हाताळणी वेगळ्या प्रकारे केली गेली आहे . चित्रपटाची पटकथा प्रभावी आणि फास्ट आहे. चित्रपट रेंगाळत नाही. शिवाय, फिल्म मध्ये मनोरंजनाचा भाग माझ्या वाटेला आहे. लोक हल्ली कॉंमेडी फिल्म जास्त बघतात. पण त्या बरोबरीस असं अंतर्मुख करणारे सिनेमे सुद्धा पाहायला हवे.
प्र: तुम्हाला नाही वाटत, की तुम्हाला उशिरा यश मिळाले ?
उ: तसं नाही म्हणता येणार. आल्या आल्या यश नको मिळायला. कारण, अनुभव हा कामांतूनच येतो. प्रत्येक गोष्टीची ठराविक वेळ असते. तसं खूप प्रोसेस मधुम काम केल्यानंतर, मिळालेल्या प्रसिद्धीची ही एक वेगळी मज्जा असते. त्यामुळे असे नाही म्हणता येणार की खूप उशिरा यश मिळाले.
प्र: यशाचे श्रेय कोणाला देणार ?
उ: अर्थातच प्रेक्षकांना, खरं सांगायचे तर मी शाळा, कॉलेज किंवा इतर कुठूनही अभिनय शिकून आलेलो नाहीये पण जनतेला, प्रेक्षकांना माझा अभिनय, माझी विनोदाची शैली आवडली आणि त्यांनी मला मोठं केलेय. त्यामुळे त्यांचेच आभार.
प्र: ‘बरड’ व्यतिरिक्त इतर कुठले सिनेमे आगामी काळात प्रदर्शित होणार आहेत?
उ: येत्या ऑगस्ट महिन्यात ‘वाघेर्या’ नावाचा एक वेगळा चित्रपट प्रदर्शित होणार आहे. समीर आशा पाटील ने त्यांचे दिग्दर्शन केले आहे. कॉमेडी फिल्म आहे. पण, त्यातील माझी व्यक्तिरेखा नक्कीच प्रेक्षकांच्या लक्षात राहील अशी आहे. ऋषिकेश जोशी, सुहास पळशीकर, किशोर चौघुले, किशोर कदम ह्यांच्या बरोबर अभिनयाची भट्टी चांगलीच जमलीये. शिवाय काही चित्रपटांवर काम चालु आहे. जे कदाचित वर्षा अखेर आपल्याला पाहायला मिळतील.
“I am more keen on doing films and stage”- Astad Kale
Television gives you name and fame. One such youngster from Pune is Astad Kale, who is more known as a Marathi television actor. Astad, who during his earlier years was trained in classical music, did perform in classical plays, including Paresh Mokashi directed classical play ‘Lagna Kallol‘. He was actively associated with Marathi stage in Pune, till he found suitable roles in Marathi serials ‘Oon Paus‘, ‘Vadalvaat‘ followed by ‘Asambhav‘, ‘Agnihotra‘, ‘Pudhcha Paul‘ and so on. Presently, he is playing lead role in ongoing TV serial ‘Saraswati‘.
Astad has also performed in films like ‘Platform‘( In lead role) besides, ‘Mission Possible‘ and ‘Nirop‘. His next film ‘Damlelya Babachi Kahani‘ in the lead role opposite Sanskruti Balgude, is all set to release on 24th June 2016. And obviously, Astad is excited about it. When Marathi Movie World met Astad recently, he frankly admitted that he was more keen on doing films and stage. “Television does help you reach every household in Maharashtra, but, when you perform on stage or in films, it’s a totally different experience,” he said.
Astad was unlucky not to find suitable roles in films, because film makers felt that he was too busy as a TV artiste. When we asked Astad, what he felt about the success achieved by the film ‘Sairat‘, he quickly reacted, ” ‘Sairat‘ has brought good days for Marathi films. I appreciate their success.” He concluded.
“Even after performing in ‘Sairat’, people still don’t recognize me” – Chhaya Kadam
Some artistes stay away from limelight. Chhaya Kadam is one of them. Starting with ‘Bai Manoos‘, Chhaya has till now performed in about 15 + films. Some of her roles were memorable, including the characters played by her in ‘Fandry‘ and ‘Bai Manoos’. But, Chhaya herself is surprised that in spite of playing the important character of Suman Akka, (who offers shelter to Parshya and Archie in Hyderabad), in the film ‘Sairat‘, people don’t recognize her at public places. On the other side, Akash, Rinku, Tanaji & Arbaaz have become popular within just 2 months time.
MarathiMovieWorld.com met Chhaya Kadam during the ‘Sairat‘ success party, when she was sitting quietly in one corner of the hall. After greeting her on her film’s success, we did ask her, as to why she was not surrounded by the people. And, to our surprise, she said that People still don’t recognize her as an actress. She even narrated a recent incidence, when she was being introduced by her friends to some people. “When they introduced me to these people, they were asked whether they had seen ‘Sairat‘. And, they proudly declared that they had seen the film 3 times. Then, how come you don’t know our friend? They asked. And, they looked at me, expressing surprise, ‘Oh you!’.Can you speak Marathi ? We thought Suman Akka was a real Hyderabadi woman. It’s a pleasure meeting you. They finally greeted.”
But, Suman has no regrets. “I am more happy that the kind of characters I have played are so realistic. Moreover, the success of ‘Sairat‘ makes me more happy, as I am part of this team.” She added. It may be recalled that before entering acting field, Chhaya was a national level kabaddi player. During her school and college days, she had devoted herself to this popular Indian game. But, today, she seems to have focused her attention on acting. She has also received offers from Hindi films. And, she is also part of Soumendra Padhi’s national award winning children’s film ‘Duronto‘. So, Chahya is in this industry at the most appropriate time and she will surely find better roles, to prove her mettle, as an actress. We wish her all the best.
‘Aik-2′ will be a hard core horror film with a logic used in the story – Swapnil Jadhav
Swapnil Jadhav who made his debut as an actor through a horror film ‘Aik’, is now making the sequel of this film ‘Aik 2′ , for which he has himself written the story. Unlike the previous film, which was directed by Pratik kadam, the sequel will be directed by Manoj Yerunkar. At present Swapnil has completed 50% shooting of this film, which according to him, will meet all the requirements of horror film lovers. In Marathi, we have very few filmmakers, who sincerely work on meeting the expectations of such audience. Swapnil Jadhav is one of them.
When MarathiMovieWorld spoke to Swapnil about the improvisations he has made in this sequel, he said, “This sequel will be more gripping, as we have paid more attention on camera work. For any horror film, to create a better impact, camera work plays an important role. Some of our scenes in the film shot till now, have been captured with three or four cameras from different angles and they continue for 3 to 4 minutes at a stretch. I can assure that from the 10th minute of the film till the end, the film will hold the audience to their seats, with horror filled scenes, following one after the other.”
What we gathered from Swapnil was that he and his team have worked very hard on technical aspects of the film and hence the post production work will be a hard task. “The sequel will be a hard core horror film, with a story, which has a logic. After all, you have to offer the audience the content, which would convince them.” he added.
In the previous film, along with Swapnil, there was Aditi Sarangdhar as his co star, with Prasad Oak and Chinmay Mandlekar playing supporting roles. But, in the sequel being made under the banner of Matrubhoomi Productions, you will find Tanvi Hegde as his co star, with Sushant Shelar, Sunil Deo, Bhushan Ghadi and Sharayu Sonavane playing the supporting roles. It is expected that after completing this project in next 3 to 4 months, Swapnil will begin work on his new project ‘Bangkok’. By the way, Swapnil was more than happy that someone was taking note of his progress in Marathi Film industry.
“My film has commercial value, besides a very good story”- Laxman Utekar
As a cinematographer, Laxman Utekar has already established himself in Bollywood. But, his desire to make a Marathi film, brought him into Marathi film industry as a director, with his debut film ‘Tapaal‘. Now, after 2 years, he has returned to direction once again, with his ambitious project ‘LalbaugChi Rani‘, which is now due for release on 3rd June 2016. Highlight of this film is that it has received strong backing from Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor.
In an exclusive interview with MarathiMovieWorld.com, Laxman Utekar spoke about his new film and the lesson he has learned in the process of filmmaking. Excerpts from an interview:
Q: Today, in Marathi film industry, most of the films have a good subject. Do you also believe in presenting a good story?
A: Yes, I have always paid attention on a good story, while making my films.
Q: What’s so special about your forthcoming film ‘Lalbaug Chi Rani’?
A: Besides good story, my film also has commercial value, as I have tried to entertain the audience, through various other characters through this film. In this film, you will find the importance of different parts of Mumbai, covered in the screenplay and at the same time the characters, who are so helpful to others. Moreover, it’s a musical entertainer.
Q: Veena Jamkar plays a mentally challenged girl in this film. Have you come across any such character in your life?
A: Yes, I have seen a eight year old girl, who was so fascinated about balloons flying up in the air. One of the important scenes in this film, is inspired by the fascination of that little girl for balloons.
Q: Promotion of the film plays an important role in film’s success. After ‘Tapaal’ what precautions have you taken to promote ‘Lalbaug Chi Rani’?
A: This time, our team really worked very hard to promote our film. One of the methods we adopted was to make short films with a message , to promote this film and it is working very well on social network media. Even otherwise, we are going places to promote this film and interacting with people all over Maharashtra.
I was always keen on playing a Lady Police Officer – Samidha Guru
Samidha Guru is a popular actress on small screen, having performed variety of roles in various TV serials in Marathi. She is known as angry young woman on small screen. Presently, we are watching her in the serial ‘Kamla’. But, besides doing her television assignments, Sameedha has also kept herself busy with Marathi stage. It may be recalled that she received the best actress award from MarathiMovieWorld.com, for her performance in the play ‘Get Well Soon’. Recently, we saw her best in films like ‘Panhala’ and ‘Kapuuskondyachi Goshta’. In fact, she received the State award for best actress for her superb performance in the film ‘Kapuskondyachi Goshta’.
Recently, we met her during the trailer release of the film ‘Laal Ishq’. And, you will be surprised to know that this angry young woman of small screen in playing a lady Police Officer in this film. Yes, Sameedha investigates a murder case in this mystery filled romantic film, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi. “Yes it’s a great honour to be part of Sanjay leela Bhansali’s first film in Marathi.” she said, when we congratulated her on being part of this film.
Speaking about this role, Sameedha said, “I always wanted to play a lady Police officer, as I had always admired them, for their ability to work tirelessly. On many occasions, they are denied leave even during festivals, due to pressure of work. Having known about their family commitments, I was always looking forward to play such character and now I have got this opportunity. Hope, the audience will appreciate my performance and this film too.”
Piyush Ranade ready to wait for his time
Originally a stage artiste, Piyush Ranade is very comfortable while playing any kind of character on small or big screen. Till now, he has performed variety of roles on Marathi and Hindi television. But, Piyush Ranade came into prominence through Marathi serial ‘Lajja‘ in which he played a prominent role of Inspector Aakash in that women oriented serial. Piyush did perform in few Marathi films, but, he is yet to find a prominent role. However, he prefers to wait for the same.
Recently, MarathiMovieWorld spoke to Piyush, during the trailer launch of forthcoming Marathi film ‘Laal Ishq‘. He seemed to be excited, because he was part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first Marathi film. ” Yes, I was extremely delighted, when director of this film Swapna Waghmare Joshi, offered me an important role in this film. She had seen my work on television and knows me well. It was so nice of her, to think about me, to be part of this film,” he said.
We did ask Piyush, whether being the tallest actor, comes in the way of finding suitable roles in Marathi films, he said, “Yes, sometimes, it does come in the way of finding suitable roles. But, today, Marathi cinema is changing and story of the film, plays the most important role. So, there are big hopes for actors like me and I am ready to wait for my time,” he concluded.
