Zee Gaurav Lifetime award carries cash benefit too

Marathi Movie World had carried a detailed report on Zee Gaurav Awards function held on Saturday. Except for disclosing the names of the award winners, we did cover the programme and the details about the three beneficiaries, who were conferred with the Lifetime achievement awards. In our report we did mention about the dire state in which the former Master Editor M.S. Shinde lived and had expressed concern about such all time Greats and their present status.
Reacting to our report about our doubt whether cash award also accompanied with the commemorative inscription; Ms. Sugandha Lonikar from Zee Marathi clarified that Zee Marathi does not openly announce the cash reward of Rs 1 lakh given to each beneficiary along with the memento. But, it has been their practice to present such cash reward along with the prestigious trophy. We, at Marathi Movie World, welcome this fine gesture shown by Zee Marathi to spot such well known deserving people, who have made the Marathi people proud with their extraordinary accomplishments.

Zee Gaurav Awards presented in a traditional style

This year Good Night Advance sponsored Zee Gaurav Awards were presented in a different manner. First they announced the nominations a week before the actual awards ceremony and yesterday 26th February, in a glittering function at Bhavan’s College Ground , Mumbai, the actual awards were presented in front of the big gathering of invitees.
The function began in a traditional style with a Palakhi where the performers danced in a typical Varkari style. Perhaps a glimpse of their popular reality show ‘Marathi Paul Padate Pudhe’. Thereafter it was the entry of the Anchors- Swapnil Joshi and Pushkar Shotri on bicycles. Their timely gimmicks supported by entertainment programmes such as Satire presented by Makarand Anaspure and Kishore Kadam and company throwing light on ongoing corruption in the country and dance performances by popular artistes from Marathi, added that required flavour to the function.
The entertainment programme during the first 90 minutes was good, but in the later half with the same team of ‘satire’ repeating the farce and too much of Bollywood dances and music only gave an indication that the organizers were more keen on pleasing a particular section of invitees. Absence of popular Musicians Ajay-Atul was felt. In the second half, many award winners were absent and it was not known, who was receiving the awards on their behalf. ‘The show must go on’ seems to be the attitude of the award winners from Drama section, as they could not cancel their shows to receive the awards. In the film awards section, there were few surprises; but the choice of three great personalities for the Life Time achievement awards was perfect.
Prof. Madhukar Toradmal honoured for his contribution to Marathi stage, Mr. Arun Kakade, for keeping alive the experimental theatre through his group ‘Aavishkar’ and Veteran master of film editing M.S. Shinde for his outstanding work in Cinema. The three grand old men were felicitated by Ms. Sulbha Deshpande , Mr. Mohan Agashe and Mr. Ramesh Deo respectively. Dr. Jabbar Patel and Mr. N. Chandra who were the guests of honour spoke about the great contribution of each of them to their respective field.
In an emotion filled scene Mr. N. Chandra held the hands of Mr. M.S. Shinde into his hands and kissed them, calling it a great moment for him. Incidentally, Mr. Shinde who has edited about 100 films including the masterpiece ‘Sholay’ and had won the filmfare award( Only award to be won by that film) was unwell recently and MNS had handed over a sum of Rs. 51,000/- to him for his treatment, since he lived in a dire state in a small room in Dharavi. His felicitation was therefore timely, but don’t know whether any financial help accompanied along with the award. Popular Cinematographer Mahesh Limaye was presented with an award called ‘Marathi Paul Padate Pudhe’ for his progress in Bollywood, after capturing with his lenses some good Marathi films.
In their respective emotion filled speeches both Mr. Toradmal and Mr. Kakade thanked their fans for their support. Mr. Toradmal is spending his time in writing now, while Mr. Kakade is still a driving force behind new young artistes of experimental theatre. As regards revealing the names of the final winners, MMW does not believe in taking away the interest of our viewers, who will be watching the telecast of this programme on Zee Marathi on Sunday 13th March 2011, at 7.30 PM.

Producer files complaint against Prabhat Talkies
As it is our Marathi film producers have to deal with so many issues relating to their film’s release. Right from finding distributors to booking of Single screen theatres and multiplexes for screening, the marketing of their film also bothers them a lot. But, now they have discovered a new problem and that is related to irregularity noticed in ticket sales.
Recently, one such case has come to light, when the producer of the film ‘Pakada Pakadi’ Mr. Sandeep Navare has lodged a police complaint against the management of Prabhat Talkies, Pune. In this connection, the Management of Prabhat Talkies have yet to come out with their reply and are investigating the matter at their end.
Many producers have expressed their dissatisfaction over the collection shown for their films by the theatre owners and the present case has only suggested how the irregularities can happen. According to Mr. Navare, the producer of this film ‘Pakada Pakadi’, his people had kept a vigil for a particular show in Prabhat talkies and even collected tickets from the viewers, who saw the film and noticed that there were tickets issued of two different types. When they checked, they found a big difference in actual sale of tickets and tickets issued by them. If this is proved, it is certainly a bad news for Marathi cinema, which is already facing the crisis.
Another producer of the film ‘Mohaan Aawatey’, Mr. Anirrudha kale, who was also dissatisfied with the same theatre management, has removed his film from this theatre before the completion of the week. For a long time, this has been a main grievance of many producers against theatre owners in Maharashtra, but to prove it requires extra manpower. The Government of Maharashtra with the help of Home department should investigate and find out how many such Theatre owners are hiding the actual occupancy during a particular show, especially week ends.

Why the film’s name is ‘Mohaan Aawatey’? Who is Mohaan Aawatey and so on . Initially, Sanjay tried to create humour stating that they may address this character by whatever name, they thought was suitable. ” All that we want to present is a success story of a person, to inspire others,” he tried to explain. But, finally, the producer had to intervene and explain that the person on whose life the film has been made did exist, but he preferred to remain away from limelight. “We have added some scenes to suit the cinematic presentation of this real life story and I am sure you will all enjoy this action packed musical thriller,” he said.
