Will the accused Marathi TV stars learn a lesson ?

It was only two days back that a leading Marathi Newspaper and a popular English tabloid in Pune carried the news about the arrest of eight people, including three actors from the Marathi television industry . The news also reported that there were four girls, one of them being a popular Marathi film and television actress. This news spread across Pune as the news carried all the details about the misbehavior of the group late mid night.

The arrest took place, when the police control room received a call at 3.30 am about blaring music played in a flat in Neelambari Apartment in the Erandawane area. The eight youngsters included actors and children of the celebrities in the city. The group was having a party at their friend’s flat in this building. A team lead by API Sadique Deshmukh when checked the premises , found three men entering a flat from where the loud music was emitting. The eight men were then taken into custody under the Bombay Police Act section 112 and 117. The four girls present on the spot, could not be arrested as the Police had no women constables. One of the sources of the newspaper also reported that when the police interrupted the party none of the men or women was in a condition to even stand.

The arrested youngsters were produced before the First Class Judicial Magistrate the next day and after that they were remanded to judicial custody. The accused then applied for bail through their lawyer and the court granted them bail on production of personal bond of Rs 3,000 each. In order to avoid the media, three of them even jumped from the high walls of court to catch an auto. One newspaper reported that the actress involved was not available for comment, while the other newspaper reported her name , but she later denied her presence at the a party and said that she was on a night stroll with friends and also complained about someone harassing her.

The act of the youngsters has certainly brought a bad name to Marathi film and television industry, which was away from such practices followed by Bollywood and Hindi television stars. There is nothing wrong in attending parties with friends, but one should remain in their limits.

We have already heard about the late night parties of some Bollywood and TV stars causing disturbance to their neighbors and even heard about their quarrels and accidents on the roads; but never heard about the involvement of any Marathi stars till this episode. Some of the popular Marathi stars have preferred not to comment on this issue, while some of them have cautioned such people to resist from such acts and preserve our culture henceforth, learning from this lesson. We at Marathi Movie world even feel that the youngsters learn a lesson from this happening and therefore do not disclose their identity. Sophia Loren once said, “Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life.”
