‘Balance 2 Hours’ – a short film on Swine flu
The deadly attack of Swine flu has already taken the toll of more than hundred people in India beginning from Pune. No one had expected the severity of this type of fever in India. The health ministry did try to spread awareness about the deadly fever, but that wasn’t enough. For almost a month it created panic at various places in Maharashtra. Now, when you hear about someone making a film on this topic; obviously, eyebrows are raised.
Director Subhash Kale, who made films like ‘Benere Bhaya’, ‘Mumbai che Shahane’, and ‘Mohan Aute’; has made this short film titled Balance 2 Hours’ on the topic of Swine flu. The film is based on the concept of Shailesh Gaikwad, a collegian from Bhiwandi, who has been running an NGO to create health awareness in this populated township. Watching the hard work put in by the youngster, Subhash Kale with the help of his NRI friend Prakash Kamal, worked seriously on this subject and made this short film almost with international quality, so that he could present the same at various film festivals across the Globe. The director received excellent co-operation from some Bhivandi residents, during the making of this film.
Story and screenplay of ‘Balance 2 Hours’ is written by Subhash Kale himself on the concept drawn by Shailesh Gaikwad. Dialogues are written by Bhalchandra and the cinematography by Anil Xavier. The star cast of the film comprises of Ashok Shinde, Rina Jadhav, K. Vrushali, Ganesh Divekar, Sangeeta More along with child artistes Aishwarya, Drushti and Rahul Jadhav.
I would like to reach out to the masses – Kanchan Adhikari
Whether it is playing a host for a television programme or making a film as a director, Kanchan Adhikari has always kept one thing in mind and that is create awareness among people about any given social issue. Through her very first film ‘Manini’, as a director she went on to show how strong a woman was while overcoming her own problems. Later she shifted to comedy films. Her next two films ‘Doghaat Tisra Aata Sagla Visara’ and ‘Baap Re Baap Dokyala Taap’ with Makarand Anaspure in the lead, she tried to deliver a relevant message in the climax of the film. One may call it an entertainment taking the form of a sugar coated capsule containing a medicine for cure. This time she comes with another comedy film ‘Tukya Tukavila Nagya Nachvila’( T2 N2) making almost a hat-trick with Makarand Anaspure, who plays the lead role of a corrupt Police Hawaldar from a village.
Speaking on the occasion to announce the date of release of this new film, Ms. Kanchan Adhikari made very clear her intention of making such a film. ” I would like to reach out to the masses and for that I take support of comedy. We all read in the newspapers stories about the maximum corruption taking place in the Police department and in the Municipalities and its impact on the society. I thought of sending across the message in my own way through a comedy,” she said.
The rushes of the film along with two songs were shown to the Press, making it very clear that T2N2 was a total entertainment package. The film is targeted at all age groups with Makarand and his real life wife Shilpa playing husband and wife on screen and Pushkar and Manasi playing the young couple. Mohan Joshi gets a chance to play a hard core politician. Deepshika in guest appearance has performed a Lavani in this film, on a song rendered by Kavitha Krishnamurthy. The film’s music is provided by Nitin Hiravkar on the lyrics of Prakash Rane. The other credits of the film are : Choreography by Umesh Jadhav, Photography by Mahendra Rayan, Editing by Anand Diwan and Screenplay and dialogues by Arvind Jagtap. The film is being produced by Kanchan’s son Kailashnath Adhikari, who is just 18 and should be the youngest producer of films.

‘Ringa Ringa’ nearing completion
Nishad Audio Visual Pvt Ltd are almost on the verge of completion of the shooting of their new film ‘Ringa Ringa’, which is an action packed thriller. After the success of ‘Chekmate‘ and ‘Bokya Satbande‘, producer Kanchan Satpute has paid more attention on making this film more entertaining suited to today’s audience. She has made a right choice in Sanjay Jadhav, who will be directing this film based on his own script. Sanjay, a talented cinematographer, who has recently won V. Shantaram Award for best Cinematography for ‘Jogwa’.
‘Ringa Ringa’ has been shot on the backdrop of picturesque Goa, where the film’s script revolves around a character Rangrao, with criminal background who turns a politician. The film picturises the ups and downs in his journey to politics. Vinod Kambli makes his debut in Marathi film
Maverick cricketer Vinod Kambli, after his unsuccessful attempt in Maharashtra Politics, has now decided to enter Marathi films. Kuber Productions and Lokesh Movies presentation
‘Lagli Paij’ will be featuring Vinod in a different way, singing and dancing in an item song of this film for the first time. The song is written by Milind Shintre who is also the writer- director of the film and the music is composed by Abhijit Kavthalkar.
The song has Southern Star Shruti Marathe performing the item song with Vinod Kambli. The song contains cricketing terms like ‘T-20′ and ‘Yuvraj Singh’ etc. Asha Bhosle, Shankar Mahadevan and Usha Uthup have rendered their voices for the songs of this film. The film stars Mohan Joshi, Arun Nalavde, Smita Talwalkar, Satish Tare, Kishori Ambiye, Milind Gunaji, Priya Berde, Sunila Karambelekar, Samir Dharmadhikari, Raghvendra Kadkol, and Rahul Solapurkar. The film is due for release on 20thNovember 2009, all over Maharashtra in a big way.
‘Vastraharan’ reaches 5000 mark
16th February 1980 was the day of Total Solar Eclipse . This day turned out to be the most auspicious day for the team of ‘Vastraharan’, as their inaugural stage show was scheduled on this day. With a good opening ‘Vastraharan’ could reach the figure of 175 within a year’s time, and the 175th show was held 26th January 1981 in the presence of late P.L. Deshpande, who was the special guest of honour. Soon, the group performed their 800th show on 26th January 1984.
It was during this show, as per the wish of Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar, a decision was taken to perform the next two shows in London. Lata Mangeshkar was made the President of this grand show and Mr. Vasantdada Patil , then Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Mr. Chagan Bhujbal, who was then Mayor of Mumbai, agreed to be the guests of honour for the grand shows. Many popular artistes had agreed to be part of the show. Due to some problems with Visa, the show looked impossible, but due to timely intervention of Balasaheb Thackeray, at least some of them could make it and show no’s 801 and 802 were successfully performed in London.
27th May 1985 turned out to be another landmark for ‘Vastraharan’ , as their 1000th show was held amidst big fanfare in the presence of Asha Bhonsale who was the chief guest. ‘Vastraharan’ continued with its popularity till year 2007 and on 15th April 2007, it turned out to be the last show of ‘Vastraharan’ in Damodar Hall, Parel, as star performer Macchindra Kambli passed away thereafter. However, in March 2009,’Vastraharan’ took a new birth, with Santosh Mayekar playing Tatya Sarpanch. It worked well for the revival of the play and soon ‘Vastraharan’ will reach the 5000 mark, when this grand show will be held on 21st November 2009, at 6pm in Shnmukhanand Hall, Mumbai. ‘Sukhaant’ talks about Mercy Killing !
Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Surkar’s latest film ‘Sukhaant’ deals with the controversial subject of mercy killing. It discusses the right of people with no hope of living to die honorably. Atul Kulkarni plays the protagonist, whose mother is afflicted with a grave ailment. She asks her son to give her the right to die with her own choice. Having made up her mind, the mother forces her son to seek court approval for her self-willed death.
The film raises the ultimate question as a suffering mother demands justice and her lawyer son struggles between his love for mother and doing the right thing.
When fiercely independent and a self-made mother Sitabai meets with an accident that deems her quadriplegic, her life changes forever. Her son Pratap, who is a successful lawyer, takes care of his bed-ridden mother. Even as her dear ones surround her with much love and attention, Sitabai is unable to live at other’s mercy. Everyday she pleads to her son to relieve her from the sufferings with mercy killing . Pratap is unwilling to grant her this peculiar wish. With the passage of time adamant Sitabai gives up food and her condition deteriorates further. When he can no longer bear to watch his helpless mother suffer, Pratap decides to move the court to grant his mother ‘her wish’ to end her life.
The film has tried to send a timely message to the society and hence would certainly invite the attention of one and all. The other cast comprises of Kavita Lad Medhekar, Jyoti Chandekar and Tushar Dalvi. The film is written by Kiran Yadnopavit and is produced by Anuya Mhaiskar. The film is all set for an early release.
‘Nave Valan’ Film festival in Mumbai
Akhil Bharatiya Chitrpat Mahamandal, Mumbai has organized a film festival ‘Nave Valan’ which will showcase selected Marathi films, including ‘Harischandrachi Factory‘ , which is India’s entry for Oscars. The festival will be held between November 16- 20, 2009, at Godrej’s NCPA. With restricted entry for the viewers, the hosts have requested the film lovers to register their names for entry passes before 11 th November 2009, at the Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi and Yashvantrao Chavan Auditorium, Nariman Point, between 9 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 7 pm.
The entry for a particular movie for those registered, will however be confirmed only by 13th November 2009. The schedule of the films to be screened during the festival will be as follows :

Four aces productions ‘Swatantryachi aishi taishi’ Produced by Dr. Nandkumar Tasgavkar and Mrs.Vandana Tasgavkar and directed by Ramesh More(Olakh, Mahasatta fame) will release all over Maharashtra on Nov 13.
