Are ‘Sata Lota’ & ‘Atithi’ really competing with ‘Sandook’?
Now, it has become a routine, to release three or four Marathi films together every week. Last week, we saw ‘Siddhant’, ‘Prime Time’, ‘Paying Ghost’ and ‘Dhurandhar Bhatavdekar’ releasing together and we have witnessed, what has happened to them. This week also, three Marathi films are together. But, Atul Kale’s period film ‘Sandook’ with Sumeet Raghavan making his debut in Marathi, seems to be leading the race.
The social networking media, has already approved ‘Sandook’ with maximum likes reported on its page, followed by ‘Atithi ( Part One)’. However, Shrabani Deodhar’s ‘Sata Lota, Pan Sagala Khota’ with well known stars, hasn’t received the expected likes on their official FB page, which is more surprising. It is understood that ‘Sata Lota…’ did not even have a press show for the media. Isn’t that more shocking ? By the way, ‘Sata Lota Pan Sagala Khota’ was scheduled for release early this year; but has taken a long time, to find suitable date for release.
There are many more Marathi films , which have also lined up for release during the month of June and July; but, still some big banner Marathi films are likely going to be released around Diwali time, following the footsteps of Bollywood. Now, it remains to be seen, whether Diwali time, will really benefit Marathi films ?
But, we are really concerned about those small budget Marathi films. Due to their budget constraint , they are not even able to release their advertisements even in newspapers. Sometimes, we see their ads appearing on the day of film’s release. What is the fate of such films? Are they reaching the theatre audience; or they are just produced to sell the satellite rights or claim the subsidy?
