Chinmay to play Vasantrao Naik in Marathi Biopic ‘Mahanayak’
Known for his angry young man image in Marathi, Chinmay Mandlekar will now play a totally different character of former chief Minister of Maharashtra, Vansantrao Naik, whose birth centenary is being celebrated in Maharashtra this year. Made under the banner of Late Venutai Birkad Films International, this is the second film of the producers, who had earlier offered an award winning film ‘Debu’ on the life of Sant Gadge Maharaj.
On Saturday evening, the producers of this film Shatrughna Birkad and Baliram Rathod made official announcement of this film, at Kohinoor Hotel, Prabhadevi, in presence of hero of this film Chinmay Mandlekar, director of the film Nilesh Raosaheb Jalamkar, veteran actor Ravi Patvardhan, actor Bharat Ganeshpure, Ms. Meenakshi Jaiswal and Grandson of late Vasanrao Naik – Mr. Indraneil Manohar Naik.
Regular shooting of this film begins shortly and the makers intend to complete this film by end of December, this year. Mr. Tukaramji Birkad is the advisor of this film, with music and background music to be composed by Mandar Khare. Cinematography by Chandrakant Meher and art by Girish Kolapkar are other credits. To make Chinmay resemble Vasantrao Naik the makers have engaged famous make up artist Pradeep Premgirikar, who had done the prosthetic make up for Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Paa’.
While speaking on the occasion, Chinmay expressed his happiness, for getting selected to play the role of this ex chief Minister of Maharashtra, who was known for his 11 year successful rule, which changed the picture of Maharashtra with hybrid agricultural production. “It’s a big honour to play the role of a great leader of Maharashtra. I just kept looking at his photograph to find similarity with me and only thing I could notice were his eyebrows. But, when Mr. Pradeep Premgirikar did my make up to present my first look, I was simply amazed, with his work,” he concluded.
