Manasi Moghe’s special laavani song for ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga’
In earlier times almost every Marathi movie had to have ‘Laavni’ in it. In fact Laavni became synonymous with Marathi cinema. In recent times Laavni has been recognised only as an item number in regional or national language films. To give impetus to this dying folk art form, Von Ryan Entertainment and Ticket Films are coming out with a new Marathi movie ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga‘ which is primarily based on Laavni.
During the shoot at Future studio at Goregaon, Mumbai, the cast and crew interacted with the media people. The name ‘Bugadi Mazi Sandli Ga‘ has been derived from a retro and very popular Laavni song’s opening line, enacted and made famous by legendary yesteryear Marathi star Jayashree Gadkar. Speaking on the occasion, director of the movie, Mansingh Pawar said “Since this movie is based on the culture of Laavni , the film has to be a musical. There are 9 songs out of which 6 are laavnis. Choreographer Deepali Vichare has taken pains to show all the Laavni forms in this movie. We have taken care to please the family audiences by keeping in mind the sensitive subject.” The hero of the film returns to India after studying western music for 10 years from USA, to study Indian folk Laavni, and its various forms/aspects, falls in love with a beautiful Laavni performer. Due to cultural and social differences the couple come across many hurdles and overcome this ordeal to come together, is the one line of this musical romantic film ‘BMSG‘.
Miss India 2013, Manasi Moghe, is debuting in this movie. “I am utterly enjoying this process of film making. My director and dance director have taken special efforts on me, so that I can deliver my best, in dramatic scenes or dancing” said Manasi. When asked why she chose Marathi movie as her debut movie she laughingly said’ why not? I am a ‘ Marathi mulgi’. And in first film itself I am getting an opportunity to perform difficult dance form, that to on six laavnis. ‘Taptapadi‘ fame actor Kashyap Parulekar said, “Though the character represents today’s youth, I have taken special efforts after researching, about the body language and spoken language. I am really happy to be chosen to play this part by the director“‘
Producing a movie for the first time, producer Shyam Singhania stated, “I am a Mumbaikar and able to speak Marathi reasonably well, always wanted to be associated with Marathi movies and when Mansingh Pawar came to me with this project, I lapped it up, the film being musical as I am an avid music lover. Without going overboard on budget, we have not compromised on cost front.” Ila Bhate is of the view that though she has played mother many times before this, this was a refreshing experience to portray loving yet conscious of consequences mother in ‘BMSG‘. Actor and dress designer Deepa Chafekar assured that without giving up on the cultural heritage the costumes will be appealing to the young generation. DOP Raja Phadtare expressed his views about being provided camera like Alexa, which is used in top production movies, which helped to create the magic required on screen. Also he has experimented with lighting to create required moods.
The story, screenplay, dialogues and direction is by experienced Mansingh Pawar. Music department is handled by Babru Bhosle, Pravin Kanwar, and Sachin-Dipesh. The cast comprises of Manasi Moghe, Kashyap Parulekar, Mohan Joshi, Ila Bhate , Deepa Chafekar, and Ramesh Bhatkar.
