Marathi Film makers make way for ‘Sultan’
We are all aware that our Marathi films are growing vertically, horizontally and diagonally. And the quality of Marathi films has improved, besides going worldwide and increasing the number of productions. In the recent past, we also witnessed 4 to 5 Marathi films released on the same day. And, still some of the films are doing well. Marathi film ‘Sairat’ also did good business and proved that a Marathi film could be a highest grosser film in Maharashtra.
So, obviously one question comes to our mind, as to why Marathi film makers make way for some Bollywood films, especially those of big Bollywood stars ? Actually, some of the Hindi film makers have already appreciated the strength of Marathi films, openly stating that the Marathi films possess good content. We also saw some big Bollywood film makers entering Marathi film industry, as producers; but they haven’t succeeded much. During the past one year, we have seen many Marathi films competing with some big banner Hindi films, by doing better business in Maharashtra. It may also be kept in mind that 60% of business of Bollywood films comes from Maharashtra. This was admitted by one renowned producer and distributor of Marathi films.
However, with all these advantages, none of the Marathi film makers dared to release their film, during the ongoing week. Being a holiday and week end, it would have certainly helped any Marathi film. But, that did not happen. Instead, we find lots of Marathi films now lined up for release from 22nd July onwards, with 5th August going to witness simultaneous releases, as very next week another big banner Hindi film is releasing. This is certainly not good, for the growth of Marathi films.
