Mohan Wagh’s departure has left a big vacuum

Mohan Wagh

Popular Marathi Drama producer and veteran Photographer Mohan Wagh is no more. His departure from this world has certainly left a big vacuum in Marathi Drama industry. For the past forty years he devoted himself towards stage productions and through his Theatre Company ‘Chandralekha’ he offered 78 plays offering hundreds of newcomers a scope to become actors.

Being a creative person from his college days, Mr. Wagh began his career as a Photo-Journalist with Indian Express Group. All those celebrities whose images were captured by Mr. Mohan Wagh appreciated his talent. His popularity soon spread to the Hindi film industry and his services were hired by popular film magazine to click the photographs of their award winners every year. Mr. Wagh who had no interest earlier in the marathi stage, was forcibly pulled in as co-producer by his friends, only because he had good contacts with the artistes, being a photographer. But soon, being a self driven person, he started his own company ‘Chandralekha’ with the blessings of Vasant Kanitkar. In all his plays, using his creativity, he paid more attention on realistic scripts and a perfection in set designs.

Mr. Wagh was the father-in-law of MNS chief Raj Thackeray. He was also a very good friend of Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Many dignitaries from different fields were present during his funeral. It was very unfortunate that the recently concluded Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, totally forgot about his contribution to Marathi literature and did not even have the courtesy to pay tributes to him. Marathimovieworld pays sincere tributes to him by calling him a great ‘Natyamahrashi’ .
