Theatre legend Madhukar Toradmal is no more
Popularly known as Mama in Marathi theatre field, Theatre legend Madhukar Toradmal is no more. He passed away today evening at his Bandra residence, after prolonged illness, due to Kindney failure. He was 84. His body will be kept at Yashwant Natyamandir, Matunga, on Monday morning at 10 am to enable his well wishers to offer him last tributes. Mr. Toradmal had created a history in Marathi theatre, when his play ‘Tarun Turk Mhatare Ark’ performed 5000 shows. He had also played a memorable role of Bheeshma in the play ‘Matsyagandha’. Besides writing this play, he had also performed the important role of a college professor in this play.
Besides performing on Marathi stage, in several plays, Mr. Toradmal had also performed in a popular TV serial ‘Sangharsha’. His performances in films like ‘Sinhasan’, ‘Bala Gau kasha Angayee’, ‘Aapli Mansa’, ‘Aatmavishwas’ proved to be memorable ones.
He was conferred with Lifetime Achievement award by Maharashtra Government. Mr. Toradmal also translated about 27 novels of Agatha Christie into Marathi, during the period of his sickness.
