hemlata-bane-aditi-arangdhar-prasad-oak-mohor-movie

Only two days ago the makers of Marathi film ‘Mohar had announced that their film would be released on Christmas day, i.e. 25th December 2015. But, immediately the following day, they decided against it. In fact, 25th December was a good day for their film’s release, as it was a bank holiday and no other film is releasing that day. Even last Friday, there was no Marathi film released. But, as noticed in the recent past, our Marathi film makers, instead prefer to compete with other Marathi films. Much awaited Marathi film ‘Natasamrat’ has already announced its grand release on 1st January 2016. So, it remains to be seen, what are the chances of this film, to invite crowds at ticket windows. Surprisingly, makers of  ‘Mohar’ haven’t done much of promotion, prior to its release. But, may be , they would like to focus on the few days left now, prior to its release.

Anyway, the film highlights a social issue and stars Prasad Oak, Aditi Sarangdhar , Sayaji Shinde, Vijay Arjun, Hemalata Bane, Vijay kadam & Manasi Naik. Choreography by Deepali Vichare, music by Milind More and camera work by Raja Phadtare are other credits . Made under the banner of V.G.Enterprises, by producers Chandrakant Pawar & Gautam Satdive, the film is directed by Vijay Patkar.

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

Presenting comedy, through a film’s screenplay is not an easy task. Every director has his or her own ideas, when it comes to entertaining the audience non stop. Milind Arun kawade, is one such director in Marathi, who prefers to play safe, by presenting the ‘set formula’ of comedy films, every time. He tried the same in ‘Yedyanchi Jatra’ and in ‘4 idiots’. Surprisingly, such films are enjoyed by section of audience, who watch them, keeping their logical thinking aside. Now, through his new film ‘Just Gammat’, Milind Arun Kawade presents one such plot, to generate non stop humour.

Just Gammat, Smita Gondkar, Jitendra Joshi

Mohan (Sanjay Narvekar) and Ashok( Jitendra Joshi) are close childhood friends, who meet after many years, at a Pub. After exchanging pleasantries while consuming drinks, when they finally discuss the topic of their wives, both voice their feelings about the humiliation suffered by them. So, they chalk out a plan to get rid of them.  Mohan goes on a mission to kill Ashok’s wife Ashwini( Aditi Sarangdhar) , while Ashok enters Mohan’s house to eliminate Meera( Smita Gondkar).

Both Mohan and Ashok fail in their plan, as the writer director has other plans to introduce more characters to carry forward his film’s screenplay, with some humor filled sequences. So, we notice arrival of a mighty gangster (Deepak Shirke) always surrounded by his ruffians. He in turn deputes his hired assistants ( Vijay Patkar & Aarti Solanki) on the look out for the missing costly ornament. Then ,there is landlord style of Ashwini’s father, who with the help of his servants, is after the blood of Ashok, who according to him, has attempted to kill his daughter. Finally, it’s happy end in the climax, removing all misunderstandings.

In this film, it is only Sanjay Narvekar, who scores, with his natural performance. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get the required support from his co star Jitendra Joshi, who is not up to the mark. One expected Jitendra to do better than his previous wonderful performance in ‘Premasathi Coming Soon’. Was his performance overshadowed by Sanjay’s natural act? Anyway, talking about the two leading ladies in the film, Smita Gondkar finds a role most suited to display her fit and slim looks. Not much was expected from her, as her character was limited to display of glamour only. Even Aditi Sarangdhar doesn’t find much scope in this film, except for representing as Jitendra’s wife in the film.

Required support comes from character artistes like Vijay Patkar, Jaywant Wadkar, Aarti Solanki, Arun Kadam, Atul Todankar, Deepak Shirke and others. Heena Panchal presents one typical item song. The director seems to have given complete freedom to the artistes. But, he should have paid more attention on the dialogues . Anyway, if you are yet to recover from the dismal performance of Indian Cricket team in semi finals of World Cup, this film can help you to recover to a certain extent, provided, you keep aside logical thinking.

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

Not all the suspense filled horror films are able to deliver, what they promise during the film’s promotion. But, latest released Marathi film ‘Aik’, has been able to offer what it claimed. To create an impact of horror and suspense, the film’s unique screenplay supported by effective camera work and background music has made a big difference. In the process, Producer Pradeep Garg and director Pratik kadam have succeeded in presenting this thriller on the new subject very well. Thanks to Janmajay Patil and Swapnil Jadhav for working together on the script. Aik Movie, aditi Sarangdhar

Swapnil Jadhav Aik

One of the writers-Swapnil, also makes his debut as a hero through this film. Now, who says that only Hollywood and Bollywood film makers like M. Night Shyamalan , Ramsay, Ramgopal Verma and Vikram Bhatt could handle such topics? Today, young director Prateek kadam has proved that a good team work can create something special in Marathi too. The film revolves around Rishi Marathe ( Swapnil Jadhav), a Creative director working in a Marathi Entertainment channel M4U. His family comprises of wife Aditi ( Aditi Sarangdhar) and little son. The family shifts to a new apartment in Mumbai and soon begins the clash between husband and wife, as Rishi doesn’t find time for the family.

The disturbance leads to the point of divorce and Aditi reaches with her son to the shooting venue of Rishi’s novel reality show, which is located 4 to 5 hours drive from Mumbai. The selection of this old palace of British time, has been deliberately selected by the production house, to attract adventure loving participants. When Aditi reaches there, Rishi and his Boss Sandy ( Prasad oak) are already tensed up, as the participants selected for the first live episode, back out at the last stage. The entire unit is now looking for a couple. Rishi persuades Aditi that he would sign the papers of divorce, provided she helps him and participate in the show. Aditi agrees and enters inside the palace.

The rule of the game show is such that the wife is taken inside the palace to a safe room and is made to wait there, till the husband goes in search for her and then returns back along with her, to win the game show. Before Rishi proceeds towards the palace, he is introduced to the audience from the site by the anchor Chinmay Mandlekar. Rishi is provided with microphone to constantly communicate with the anchor, waiting outside the palace and also given a buzzer, which is to be pressed thrice, in case the particiapant wishes to quit.

Prasad Oak Aik Movie
prasad Oak, Swapnil JadhavWhen Rishi enters the palace, he comes across terrible experiences, including terrifying sounds, indicating presence of someone around. Soon, he comes across more horror filled strange experiences and is about to quit, when he hears the voice of his wife. When he goes in her search, the in house CCTV cameras planted by the production team, capture his reactions. On few occasions, they get confused, as to why Rishi is worried and scared. Rishi also sees his own son around and later finds a terrifying Girl’s spirit, misleading him. When Rishi is given an assurance by the anchor that his son is very much in the vanity van fast asleep; he in convinced that an invisible spirit, is playing on his mind. Finally, he finds his wife, while he himself suffers an injury.
When both are on their way to exit, they actually face the girl’s spirit, all set to kill Rishi. In the console room, Sandy receives a call from an old man, who claims that the girl inside the palace is his grand daughter’s spirit. In the climax, the film concludes methodically , revealing the mystery.

‘Aik’ is a good effort by director Prateek Kadam. He gets a good support from suitable background Music and efficient camera work, to make every scene effective. The film has been shot at the most ideal location of historical Thiba Palace, situated on a hill top of Ratnagiri town. All the artistes in the film have lend a good support with their natural acting skills. Lead hero Swapnil, who makes his debut, doesn’t look like a new comer. He has played his part very naturally. Aditi Saragdhar has given a wonderful performance. The way she reacts during sensitive scenes, clearly indicate her identity as a complete actress. Prasad Oak and Chinmay Mandlekar play their respective roles with complete authority. Others in the supporting cast have done well. ‘Aik’ is a well presented creepy film, which sticks to what it promised during the ad campaign. Don’t be surprised, if any Bollywood film maker attempts a remake of this film.

Movie Review by: Ulhas Shirke

You never know, when and how our Marathi film makers would get inspired to make comedy films on the lines of some old Bollywood movies. Perhaps, watching those repeat runs of David Dhavan films starring Govinda and Sanjay Dutt on television, might have influenced director Vinay Laad to write the story of this Marathi film ‘Kaay karu? Na Kasa karu!’ starring Bharat Jadhav and Pushkar Shrotri in the lead. Only changes he made, by replacing Jay Paaji and Veeru Paaji with Vijay and Ajay; as otherwise both are shown as con men, in search of easy money and accommodation.

Vijay feels that he can compose music while Ajay, who sells ayurvedic jadi butti, poses himself as a doctor owning a hospital. So, they play pranks on the lines of what Govinda and Sanjay Dutt did in either ‘Jodi No. 1′, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’, or ‘Ek aur Ek Gyarah’. If that was not enough, they also borrow few ideas from Harmesh Malhotra’s Bollywood films of 90s.

With few changes here and there, the plot of ‘Kaay Karu? Na Kasa Karu!’ begins with two close friends – Vijay (Bharat Jadhav) and Ajay (Pushkar Shrotri), who are shown literally on the roads in the beginning of the film, after being shown the door by their landlord. They meet their common friend Kamlya (Kamlakar Satpute) who is influenced by Mr. Bachchan and keeps on overdoing his past film acts uttering Hindi dialogues, more than required to create humour.

Kay Karu Kas Karu Movie Image

Kamlya introduces his two friends to a Watchman of a bungalow (Vijay Chavan), who is guarding his Owner’s bungalow for a period of six months, since the owner is away. In the meanwhile the watchman’s two daughters Nisha (Deepali Sayyed) and Usha (Aditi Sarangdhar) also manage to enjoy the luxury of this bungalow. When Kamlya introduces Vijay and Ajay as an upcoming Music director and a doctor owning hospital respectively, the girls are impressed by their status and fall in love with them, in the first meeting itself. Their mother (Uma Sardeshmukh) is not very happy with their association with strangers, but the father plans
something big; and soon gets his both the daughters married to them.

When, it is disclosed that the two young men are fraud, he repents. But, destiny makes them extra smart and they manage Rs.5 cores, after they save life of a rich man about to commit suicide. Then begins the naughty games of two boys, to teach a lesson to their demanding wives. Finally, it’s happy ending in the climax. There is no doubt that the chemistry between the two couples works well; but the outdated song sequences and not so appealing music do not go well with the screenplay.

All the four leading artistes have given their best, as expected. Ashok Shinde plays an awkward looking role, where he has no scope; but only to expose his skin affected face and receiving insults from Deepali. Vijay Chavhan and Uma Sardeshmukh play the parents convincingly. Few dialogues are well written by Sanjay Belose; but some of them are repeated by Kamlakar Satpute – the character of Kamlya, while performing his mimicry and by Deepali while humiliating Ashok Shinde. There are no twists and turns in the screenplay, except for the routine comedy on one given plot. Anil Khandekar’s photography is good, but there is nothing special in the choreography of Dilip Mistry. In the process, Writer- Director Vinay Laad has offered just another average entertaining Marathi comedy film.
