Subodh Bhave is an ideal choice for Biopics
Subodh Bhave is one such name in Marathi film industry which is known for portraying the well Known personalities on the big screen through their biopics. Subodh did play humour filled roles in films like ‘Ek Daav Dhobi Pachhad‘, ‘Sanai Choughade‘,’Aiyyaa‘, ‘Fugay‘ and also serious type of roles in films like ‘Anumati‘,’ Zhale Mokale Aakash‘, ‘Bharatiya‘ & ‘Katyar Kaljaat Ghusali‘ . But, his roles in biopics like ‘Balgandharva‘, ‘Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush‘ were the most memorable performances. What is good about him is that he totally gets involved into the character he portrays and therefore, creates a strong impact on the audience through his performance.
Now, Subodh is all set to make the hat trick of the biopics through his new film on late Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar. Having performed variety of roles on stage as well as on television for the past two decades, Subodh has a big fan following . As a director, he has also shown his skills through the film ‘Katyar Kaljaat Ghusali’ which was based on Indian classical music. Subosh himself being a good singer, knew very well about the importance of music in this film. His latest Marathi film ‘Pushpak Vimaan‘ has been released on last Friday, in which he has found a very good company in the form of another versatile actor Mohan Joshi. But, his well wishers are eagerly waiting to see him perform the character of another theatre legend Dr. kashinath Ghanekar.
Now, a Marathi film on the first Superstar of Marathi stage Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar
During the 60s Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar turned the first superstar of Marathi stage . His memorable performances in super hit Marathi plays like ‘Raigadala Jenvha Jaag Yete‘, ‘Ithe Oshalala Mrityu‘, ‘Ashrunchi Jhali Phule‘,’Garambhicha Bapu‘, ‘Aanandi Gopal‘, ‘Shitu‘, ‘Tujhe Aahe Tujhapashi‘, ‘Sundar Mi Honar‘, & ‘Madhumanjiri‘ had won the hearts of drama lovers in Maharashtra. As far as acting was concerned Dr. Ghanekar was an institution in himself.
Now, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures will be presenting a Marathi feature film ‘Ani…Kashinath Ghanekar‘ on this acting legend, which they propose to release during coming Diwali this year. Directed by Abhijit Deshpande, the film stars Subodh Bhave in title role along with other versatile artistes Sonali Kulkarni & Sumit Raghavan. For Subodh Bhave, who has portrayed great personalities like Balgandharva & Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in the biopics on their lives, this is another big challenge for him.
‘Vastraharan’ reaches 5000 mark
16th February 1980 was the day of Total Solar Eclipse . This day turned out to be the most auspicious day for the team of ‘Vastraharan’, as their inaugural stage show was scheduled on this day. With a good opening ‘Vastraharan’ could reach the figure of 175 within a year’s time, and the 175th show was held 26th January 1981 in the presence of late P.L. Deshpande, who was the special guest of honour. Soon, the group performed their 800th show on 26th January 1984.
It was during this show, as per the wish of Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar, a decision was taken to perform the next two shows in London. Lata Mangeshkar was made the President of this grand show and Mr. Vasantdada Patil , then Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Mr. Chagan Bhujbal, who was then Mayor of Mumbai, agreed to be the guests of honour for the grand shows. Many popular artistes had agreed to be part of the show. Due to some problems with Visa, the show looked impossible, but due to timely intervention of Balasaheb Thackeray, at least some of them could make it and show no’s 801 and 802 were successfully performed in London.
27th May 1985 turned out to be another landmark for ‘Vastraharan’ , as their 1000th show was held amidst big fanfare in the presence of Asha Bhonsale who was the chief guest. ‘Vastraharan’ continued with its popularity till year 2007 and on 15th April 2007, it turned out to be the last show of ‘Vastraharan’ in Damodar Hall, Parel, as star performer Macchindra Kambli passed away thereafter. However, in March 2009,’Vastraharan’ took a new birth, with Santosh Mayekar playing Tatya Sarpanch. It worked well for the revival of the play and soon ‘Vastraharan’ will reach the 5000 mark, when this grand show will be held on 21st November 2009, at 6pm in Shnmukhanand Hall, Mumbai.
