School girl Kasturi Kulkarni gets an international award for her science based film

Kasturi Kulkarni the 10th standard student of Deccan Education Society’s English Medium School is in the news. Kasturi has bagged the 3rd prize at the Prestigious International Science Film of India competition held in Kolkatta. The competition was held under the auspices of Indian Government’s initiative to spread and test the knowledge of Science among school and college students. When Kasturi came to know about this competition, she decided to make films on relevant subjects. First she made a film ‘Aajibaicha Batwa’ starring Seema Chandekar, which was based on traditional haling therapies as medicines. Now, this time she made a film ‘Symbiosis’ based on fungus formation around the tree.

Her film ‘Symbiosis’ was selected for screening at this prestigious festival, where there were entries from students from 60 different countries across the world. And Kasturi was awarded third prize for this film. Since childhood days Kasturi was passionate about acting and had joined Producer- director Raju Bhosale’s workshops which were based on science related subjects. Incidentally, Kasturi has not only acted in Raju Bhosale’s forthcoming multi-starrer Marathi film ‘Berij Vajabaki’ but has also worked as assistant director for this film. This film which was made last year, when Kasturi was studying in 9th standard is now due for release on 13th December 2019.
