Theatre workshop for Children in Navi Mumbai
Theatre of Relevance – Children’s Theatre will be conducting a workshop ‘Chala Kheluya Natak’ for the children , in the age group of 6 and 15 years, in Navi Mumbai, from 28th to 31st December 2015. Last month, they had conducted, one such workshop successfully at Dombivali. The training in this workshop will enable the children to develop their natural skills in acting. This will comprise of Removing stage fear, introduction to acting, actual performance in a play, Voice modulation, personality development, dance, writing and direction.
This workshop will be conducted by International Theatre artist Ashwini Nandedkar, her associate Sayali Pawaskar and ‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ TV serial fame Komal Khamkar. The venue of the workshop will be Jeshta Nagarik Hall( Senior Citizens hall) Sea Woods, Sector 48,Gaimukh Chouk Police Station,Sea Woods,Navi Mumbai.The timings for these days will be 10 am to 1 pm.

‘Karti Kaljat Ghusli’ to hit a Century on 21st November
Popular Marathi play ‘Karti Kaljaat Ghusali’, presented by Prashant Damle Fan Foundation will be celebrating its century, with 100th show, to be staged on 21st November 2015 at 8 pm at Dinanath Mangeshkar Auditorium , Vile Parle. The chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Devendra Fadavnis will be present as chief guest on the occasion. Among others, who will also be present at this occasion will be Mr. Vinod Tawde, Maharashtra’s Cultural Minister, well known music director Mr. Hridaynath Mangeshkar & singer Radha Mangeshkar .
The announcement was made by Mr. Prashant Damle himself, art a press conference held recently, when he also called it a memorable moment, in his acting career of 33 years. This play written by Vasant Sabnis, has been revived by Prashant Damle, introducing popular TV actress Tejashree Pradhan in it, in the role of his daughter.

Veteran Playwright P L Mayekar passes away
Veteran playwright Prabhakar Laxman Mayekar, passéd away today morning in Pune. He was taking treatment for cancer, for the past two years. Mayekar had written many types of famous Marathi plays, which included social, Humor, suspense, thrillers. He was conferred with ‘Ram Ganesh Gadkari’ award by Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad.
Mr. Mayekar worked for Marathi amateur theatre, for almost a decade and during 80s, he got an opportunity as commercial play writer. During the early day of his career, he has successfully written a many popular one act plays. He has written plays for reputed banners like Chandralekha & Bhadrakali. Some of his famous plays were ‘Godi Gulabi’, ‘Aasu Ani Hasu’, ‘DIpsthamb’, ‘Pandgo Elo Re ba IIlo’ & ‘Raatrani’
‘Veer Daudale Saatach’ play to be staged commercially
Love for Marathi plays hasn’t diminished at all, over the years. This has been possible, because of the patronage of established actors and audience equally. Many well known Marathi artistes, started their acting career with experimental plays. This can happen only in Marathi entertainment industry.
Talking about Marathi experimental theatre, a new play in this category, will hit the drama theatres very soon. ‘Veer Daudale Saatach‘ will be a play, directed by Pralhad Kudtarkar, who bagged best director (experimental) trophy, alongside best play, at a recent television awards function. Pralhad Kudtarkar, was an assistant director for a popular Aadesh Bandekar show ‘Home Minister’. He has to his credits Marathi serials, ‘Aambat Goad’, ‘Bhagyalaxmi’, ‘Aabhas Ha’,’ Lakshya’, ‘Ka Re Durava’ as a writer. But , his love for theatre, prompted him to stage Veer Daudle Saatch.
The play is about a Marathi school , deciding to be part of state inter-school dramatic competition and hand over the responsibility to school’s history teacher, who in turn decides to imbibe history through a drama and selects a historical play . Ironically, seven students who happen to be disinterested in history, get selected to act in it. And, what happens next, is all that the play is about.
Veer Daudale Saatach is produced under the banner Rudra Theatre by Sarika Naik and Pallavi Bhojne. Set to be designed by Ajay Pujare and light design will be by Amogh Phadke while background music is to be provided by Samihan. Omkar Bhojne, Ajay Kambli, Abhishek Gaonkar, Sanjay Jamkhandi, Bhagyashri Paane, Santosh Sarode, Priyanka Hande, Ketan Salvi, and Snehal Shidam will be the artistes of this play, to be on staged from 21st August 2015 onwards.
‘Geli Ekvis Varsha’ for Italian International Theatre festival
Natak Company – a group of enthusiastic and free spirited youngsters, has been formed with a view to performing plays which are honest and different and which will appeal to both, the masses as well as to the eclectics. The good news for them is that their play ‘Geli Ekvis Varsha’ has been short listed for the international theatre festival in Italy- Universo Teatro, that will take place in Benevento, Italy, from October 21st- October 25th , 2010.The play was selected amongst hundreds of entries from all over the world. The play made headlines when it won the Best Play award along with many others at the prestigious National Festival Thespo 11 in December 2009. After proving on the national platform,

‘Geli Ekvis Varsha’ presents a unique theme Straight out of the minds of 21 year olds. The story of a youngster who finally goes to a reality show which is there to create an extremist, terrorist young force. Is it fundamentalist? Religious? Regional? Certainly not! Exactly what happened to the young parents, involved in liberal, leftist, socialist movements in and after the 1975 Emergency? What happened to the concept of a free, secular, liberal and ideal nation ? What happened to those values and ethics which they expected from their previous generation of freedom fighters? What exactly did happen in the last 21 years? These are the questions raised by the play.
Written by Dharmakirti Sumant, directed by Aalok Rajwade with music by Gandhaar Sangoram ; the cast of this play comprises of Amey Wagh, Siddharth Menon, Sayalee Phatak, Vishwajeet Kadam, Manali Bibikar, Ruturaj Shinde, Gautam Raddi,Amol Gokhale and Shardul Kadam.
Sachin Tendulkar bats for ‘Gela Madhav Kunikade’
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has always been a great fan of some popular Marathi dramas. One of them being ‘Gela Madhav Kunikade’. “I have seen this play twice six years ago and I enjoyed it. Now, that it is being revived, I am happy about it” said the Master blaster while speaking on the occasion of the promotion of popular Marathi comedy play ‘Gela Madhav Kunikade’ which is all set to make a comeback after a gap of about six years.
The play which was at the top during 90’s for its non-stop laughter, later took a long break. But, now we find Prashant Damle and Vinay Yedekar coming together once again with their ‘Haay kaay ani Naay kaay’ punch line. Paying sincere tributes to all time greats like Late Vasant Sabnis, Mohan Wagh and Mohan Tondwalkar the hilarious comedy is all set to play their second innings from 19th August 2010 with their show at Prabodhankar Thackeray Sabhagriha, Mumbai.. And, this time they are extra charged with the backing received from none other than Cricket Ace Sachin Tendulkar.
Mohan Tondwalkar is no more
Mohan Tondwalkar who headed the most popular Marathi Drama company Kalavaibhav, passed away today after a brief illness. He was 77. Mr. Tondwalkar had produced 80 Marathi plays, including popular plays like ‘Purush’, ‘Gela Madhav Kunikade’, ‘Nati Goti’, ‘Vaadaa Chirebandi’, ‘Premasathi Vattel te’ and the latest- ‘Shambhuraje’.
Having given scope to several top Marathi artistes of today through ‘Kalavaibhav’, he remained dedicated to his profession and believed in creating something new. He had the knowledge of Marathi literature very well. Mr. Tondwalkar was the first Marathi Drama producer to present the stories of Jaywant Dalvi on Marathi stage. Many well known artistes were associated with his drama group. Veteran Vijaya Mehta had also directed some plays for his group.
Many personalities have offered their tributes recalling his valuable contribution to the Marathi stage. Some of whom who quickly expressed their gratitude to him were Sudhir Bhatt, Lata Narvekar, Atul Parchure & Prashant Damle.
Marathi Theatre Festival at NCPA
After almost about 10 years, National Centre For Performing arts (NCPA) have opened their doors to Marathi Theatre. From 7th August 2010 ‘Paratibimb Marathi Natya Utsav’ will begin here with mixture of contemporary Marathi Theatre, ranging from a Tale of sixteenth century saints to modern day relationships.
One does not know the reasons for discontinuance of Marathi stage from NCPA 10 years ago, but the news about this festival is certainly welcome. It will certainly encourage Marathi Theatre in south Mumbai as most of the theatres are in the suburbs.
During the festival which will go on between 7th August – 11th August 2010, the following plays will be performed. On 7th August at 6.30 pm it will be Avishkar’s ‘Baya Daar Ughaad’. On 8th August at 3 pm it will be Theatrics presentation ‘Ek Rikaami Baaju’ followed by ‘Geli Ekvis Varshe’ from Natak Company at 6.30 pm. On 9th August will be Lalit , Mumbai presentation ‘Ekmekaat’ and on 10th August Aasaakt KalaManch Pune will present ‘Anandbhog Mall’. On the last day, i.e. 11th August Kalakendra Pune will present ‘Mahapur’. Besides the presentation of these plays there will also be a talk show daily at 5pm before the shows
At 75, Mohan Tondwalkar gets due recognition

The seventy fifth birthday celebrations of eminent producer of Marathi plays -Mohan Tondwalkar, was held at the Shivaji Mandir on Friday.
Tondwalkar is the founder of the iconic drama troupe Kala Vaibhav which is responsible for producing hit plays like ‘Jaswandi’, ‘Purush’, ‘Gela Madhav Kunakade’, ‘Nati Goti’, ‘Premasathi Vattel te’, etc. He has gifted the Marathi entertainment industry great talents like Nana Patekar, Neena Kulkarni, Vikram Gokhale, Reema Lagoo, Dr.Vijaya Mehta and many others.
Present on the occasion were chief guest – eminent astrologer Jayant Salgaonkar, Dr.Ravi Bapat, actors- Prabhakar Panshikar, Nana Patekar, playwrights- Gangaram Gawankar & Arun Ghadigaonkar,.
Mr. Tondwalkar and his wife were presented with Shawls and bouquets by various luminaries including Uday Gharat of Maharashtra Natya Mandal, Reema Lagoo, and other staff members of Kala Vaibhav. A plaque was presented to him by Nana Patekar on behalf of the Mohan Tondwalkar Pratishtahan.
A book written on Tondwalkar called ‘Mohansheth’ was released by the veteran actor Prabhakar Panshikar. Among those who spoke on the occasion were Prabhakar Panshikar, Dr. Ravi Bapat and Dr. Vijaya Mehta. They all recollected the old memories and praised his work.
Finally, it was Nana Patekar who took on the stage in his inimitable style and narrated his experiences with Mohansheth (as he addressed him right from his early days as an actor) when it was difficult to make ends meet. He stated that he saw a real mentor in Tondwalkar. Eminent actor Leeladhar Kambli was the programme host. The programme concluded with the special show of Kala Vaibhav’s latest play ‘Shambhu Raje’ starring Dr.Amol Kolhe.
