‘Vazandar’ presents casual entertainment with light humour

Weight gain has always been a problem for young women, whether married or about to get married. Latest Marathi film ‘Vazandar‘ tries to deal with this issue to generate light humour. Actually, the film doesn’t have an interesting plot to appeal all. Prior to its release, this film had already created a lot of hype through its promotion, banking on the two top actresses from Marathi films coming together for the first time. So, obviously, there were big expectations from this film. But, it has turned out to be a casual entertainer with light humour, offered especially to young women, who are the target audience.
‘Vazandar‘ is a narrative by mesomorph body type happy go lucky girl Pooja( Priya Bapat) who is born and brought up at Pachgani by her mother, who works as a Hotel Manager. Pooja is a computer Engineer who is trying to migrate to USA. She lives a happy life in the company of her friend Kaveri ( Sai Tamhankar), who is recently married to Omkar Jadhav( Chirag Patil) son of a owner of a big Strawberry garden . Kaveri has some restrictions at home. So, to fulfill her desire to dance at a local Pub, she accompanies Pooja, when her family members are away.
When both Pooja and Kaveri go high, dancing on the table to get noticed, the table breaks and both of them fall down. This embarrassing moment is captured on a video by someone present there and the clip goes viral on youtube. They are named as dancing aunties , being out of shape. Pooja turns furious and goes to lodge a police complaint. She also decides to trace the person who uploaded this video. In the meanwhile, she becomes friendly with Alok Dixit ( Siddharth Chandekar) who poses himself as an expert trekker rather than a tour guide. In the company of Alok Pooja develops a complex and decides to reduce her extra fat. While she attempts those widely advertised Slim fit methods of consuming pills for fat loss, she further goes to the extent of attempting a bariatric surgery. At the same time, her friend Kaveri without the knowledge of her husband and family visits a Gymnasium to shape herself for a zero figure.
How their methods help them in their respective lives, is all that ‘Vazandar‘ has tried to show in this 2 hour length film. The film does succeed in creating the right environment for fitness lovers with the selection of right locations, such as morning walks, Gymnasium, health Spa and the natural indoor hotel atmosphere of a hill station, with the suitable sound and art designs , but it lacks crispy dialogues, required to create spontaneous laughter. The first half the film does generate some interest; but, in the second half it fails to hold the grip on its screenplay. First of all, the plot of this film itself is not so appealing, as uploading the video clip showing the fall of two overweight girls from a table while dancing in a Pub, is itself a non sensational happening. This is also endorsed in the screenplay of this film by the Police Inspector on duty, who advises them to approach the Cyber cell, to decide the seriousness of such an act.
Moreover, after the Video clip going viral , Kaveri and Pooja are recognized by local schoolchildren and even vegetable vendors , but still, no one from Kaveri’s family comes to know about it, through external sources, which is surprising. Simply showing that Kaveri’s husband has stopped using PC doesn’t convince the audience. Except for few humor filled happenings, director Sachin Kundalkar couldn’t develop the story of this film, the way he did through his previous films. But still, ‘Vazandar‘ offers good performances from the lead characters played by Priya Bapat and Sai Tamhankar.
Being a women oriented film, there is less scope for the lead hero Siddharth Chhandekar. But, he has played his part well. Good support comes from other characters like Mike Sir the Gym Instructor played by Sameer Dharmadhikari, Sai’s husband played by Chirag Patil, Family Doctor of Jadhav family, played by Gaurav Ghatnekar , Police Inspector played by Umesh Jagtap, Chetan Chitnis as Pooja’s childhood friend and others. Avinash-Vishwajeet’s music just good enough to fit into the much needed requirement of space for songs in this film. But, the Photography by Milind Jog and dress design by Amit Divekar are worth appreciating.

Vidhi Kasliwal’s ‘Vazandaar’ towards completion
After making a film like ‘Sangato Aika‘ with Sachin Pilgaonkar, Vidhi Kasliwal is now towards completion of her new venture ‘Vazandaar‘ under the banner of Landmarc Films, with another exciting subject and an equally talented star cast, comprising of Priya Bapat Kamat, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Chandekar, Chirag Patil and Chetan Chitnis.
Director Sachin Kundalkar, well known for dealing with unique topics through his films, has come up with yet another compelling story. ‘ Vazandaar‘ has a very personal subject and it struck the chords with producer Vidhi Kasliwal, who has been all praise for the writer- director. ” Sachin is a very sensitive and sharp person who open-mindedly takes all suggestions and beautifully weaves them into the layers of the film,” says Vidhi Kasliwal.
Till now, nobody knows what the story is about, about Marathi film lovers will be keen to watch Priya and Sai together in ‘Vazandaar’.
Who will prove ‘Vazandar’? Priya or Sai ?
After being ignored by film maker Sanjay Jadhav, for his film ‘Guru’, Sai Tamhankar has joined the camp of national award winning filmmaker Sachin Kundalkar. It may be recalled that she was part of Sanjay Jadhav’s films, since ‘Duniyadari’ , followed by ‘Pyarwali Love Story’ and ‘Tu Hi Re’. But, the last two films, didn’t do well.
Sai has now completed shooting of his film ‘Vajandar’ which also has Priya Bapat in parallel role. Presently, the post production work of this film is going on and the film will be released soon. Priya, who had already worked with Sachin Kundalkar before, in his film ‘Happy Journey’ is still riding with the success of this film, besides two other successful films, ‘Lokmanya’ and ‘Time Pass-2’.
However, same is not the case with Sai Tamhankar. Except for ‘Classmates’ which was a multi starrer and released early last year, none of her films received success. So, she desperately needs a hit film, to stay in the race. But, we understand that Priya has worked very hard, to give her best in ‘Vazandar’. She had also put on additional weight, to meet the requirement of her role. And, now, she is back to normal. Anyway, it will be a good competition to watch between the two actresses in the same film.

Joglekar
In the first part of ‘Time Pass’’ we saw the love story taking place between Dagadu( Prathamesh Parab) and Prajakta ( Ketaki Mategaonkar) during their adolescence . But, due to timely intervention of Prajakta’s father Madhusudan Lele ( Vaibhav Mangale) and useful advice given by Prajakta’s teacher, we noticed a ‘break up’ in their relationship, in the film’s climax. But, director Ravi Jadhav had clearly hinted that their love story would continue.
Now, in Part 2 of ‘Time Pass’, we notice director Ravi Jadhav setting a stage for their reunion after 12 years. But, this time, you will not see the same actors playing their characters, as the grown up Dagadu is played by actor – director Priyadarshan Jadhav, who had assisted Ravi Jadhav in ‘Time Pass’, while Prajakta is played by Priya Bapat – Kamat.
In the opening scene of this second part , we notice Dagadu turning a politician and social worker of his area, inaugurating an Ambulance service; while Prajakta, far away in Konkan, still dreaming about her reunion with Dagadu. It is only when Dagadu’s inner voice ( In the form of Prathamesh Parab)reminds him about his ‘past love’, Dagadu prepares to go to Konkan, along with his three friends with funny names, in search of Prajakta. He does meet her on his way, but both don’t recognize each other.
The actual love story between grown up Dagadu and Prajakta takes off, only post interval; as Dagadu first plans to impress Prajakta’s father, posing himself as Navin, a scientist from BARC. He even succeeds to a certain extent. But, Prajakta visits Mumbai, around that time, under the pretext of preparing for her music exams. And, finally, both of them meet in Mumbai, when Prajakta comes to know, his real identity. The film’s screenplay then proceeds further, with some more dramatic happenings, coming in the way of their reunion. Finally, it’s happy end in a predictable climax.
‘Time Pass-2′ has wasted a lot of time in the pre interval stage, before it takes actual grip on the continuation of Dagadu- Prajakta love story. In this second part, the director has paid more attention, giving emotional touch to this love story, besides showing the caring attitude of the protective father. This time, he has also added some action scenes, to show Dagadu a real Super hero. To add some humor, the characters of a photographer from the village, in love with Prajakta and Dagadu’s three friends have been added in a traditional style. But, one fails to understand, why a director of repute Viju Mane, agreed to play a bad man, in a casting couch episode?
‘Time Pass-2′ has good music, but not as superior as Part 1. Even the much talked about item number ‘Pichkari..’, performed by Sonalee Kulkarni, fails to appeal much, as the attention of the audience is more focused on Priya Bapat, who dances as a Junior artiste in that sequence. Barring few such shortfalls, ‘Time Pass-2′ still manages to appeal, because of the fine performances of all the artistes. But, among all of them, Vaibhav Mangle stands tall, with his outstanding performance. Prathamesh Parab , Ketaki Mategaonkar, Bhau Kadam, Bhushan Pradhan , Urmila Kanetkar Kothare and others, are just namesake in this film. All in all, ‘Time Pass 2′ offers emotion filled entertainment. But, don’t watch this film, with an intention of comparing it with Part 1. Don’t forget that it is a pure ‘Time Pass’ film.
‘Time Pass-2′ creates a buzz with its music
With not even a month left now, for its release, Ravi Jadhav’s ‘Time Pass-2‘ has already started creating a buzz, with its music. On Friday evening almost all the singers from this film, gave a live performance, in front of media representatives and invites, to give a glimpse of the fever the film is all set to create during the month of May, when the film releases, all over Maharashtra.
The film has already raised lot of curiosity as Priyadarshan Jadhav and Priya Bapat will portray the Dagadu turned Rocky and grown up Prajakta in this sequel. The film is being marketed extensively, by Essel Vision and Athaansh Communications . Even otherwise, the variety offered by different singers on the rocking music of Chinar & Mahesh, is enough for the film to do good business.
Music being the USP of this film, the makers are marketing this aspect more. Last week, they had a grand event in Pune, to promote this film and now it was in Mumbai; when Apeksha Dandekar & Ishq Bector enthralled the audience with their ‘Madan Pichkari…‘ duet. The other songs in this film are rendered by popular singers Vishal dadlani, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Rishikesh Kamerkar, Shalmali Kholgade,Nikhil D’souza, Ketaki Mategaonkar, Adarsh Shinde , Anand Shinde & others.

New lead pair of ‘Time Pass’ revealed
‘Time Pass’ is considered amongst the top-line grossers of last year, in Marathi Film world. The odd pairing of, Prathamesh Parab as Dagdu and Ketaki Mategaonkar as Prajakta, was an instant hit with the audience through this film about teenage romance. Towards the end of this film, the director had cleverly hinted about the sequel. Director Ravi Jadhav has kept the promise and is now ready with the sequel, ‘Time Pass 2′. One must appreciate his confidence in the content of the original that he could think of a sequel, before the film was released, as suggested categorically in end-credits.
As Ravi Jadhav has advertising background and expertise, he used it intelligently to create a lot of suspense and curiosity about his latest product, ‘Time Pass 2′ and was successful as a lot of guesswork was going on, as to who will be the next Dagdu and Prajakta. He finally, through social networking site, released a teaser and ended the speculations. The new Dagdu is Priyadarshan Jadhav and new Prajakta is Priya Bapat.
The new pair is equally odd, as the original lead pair and now there’s talk about the on-screen chemistry of Priyadarshan and Priya in the sequel. Time Pass 2 has the backing of EsselVision and will hit the screens on the Maharashtra Day this year.
