Girija Oak Godbole starrer short film ‘Quarter’ delivers a good message
Starring Girija Oak Godbole in the lead role the 15 minute length short film ‘Quarter’ has been inviting attention of audience all over the world. This Marathi film which can be viewed on Youtube has already received 22 nominations at the International film festivals and has won seven international film awards . Produced and directed by Navjyot Bandivadekar this film revolves around a 30 year young lady Ashvini Satish Ranade who has been declared certified alcoholic.
Having filed a petition for divorce with mutual consent, she is shown living a lonely life and is in a state of soliloquy, when we see her talking to herself and calling out the name of her husband Satish, and talking to the plants in the garden, while consuming her drink. The next morning we find her in a different mood, when we see her tearing off and burying her latest medical report and divorce papers into an earthen pot, while planting a new variety in her garden. And then she utters a very meaningful dialogue which relates to how important is life for all of us and we are addicted to it too.
Technically, it is a well made short film, with story and dialogues by Aalap Bhagwat and wonderful photography by Yash Khanna.
Poster and trailer launch of Marathi short film ‘Quarter’
The launch of posters and trailers of feature films is very common, but for the very first time in the history of the Marathi Cinema, the poster as well as the trailer of a short film has been launched, making a big news in the Marathi Cinema.
Made under the banner of Navigns Studio Private limited, the official launch of the poster as well as the trailer of the short film ‘Quarter‘ was held on a grand scale in Mumbai recently . Present on the occasion were producer Namrata Bandiwadekar, director Navjyot Bandiwadekar, Girija Oak Godbole, Aalap Bhagwat, Sameer Samant, Sandeep Kale, Yash Khanna, Aashish Mhatre, Vivian Richard, Anmol Bhave, Prashant Rane and several other celebrities including Rajeev Khandelwal,.
Young Navjyot Bandiwadekar, who has till date directed, edited, written and also handled the camera for several short films, documentaries and informative films has directed ‘Quarter‘ film. With ‘Quarter‘ , Girija Oak Godbole is making her debut as an actress in a short film, which is the biggest USP of this short film. Though it is difficult to fathom what the short film will set out to convey when you read its title, Navjyot Bandiwadekar says that he has tried to convey a lot of things through his film.
With this film, Girija has staged a comeback as for quite some time she was seen only in ad films. Says Girija, “Quarter , being my very first short film, I have mixed feelings over being a part and parcel of the short film. The story and my powerful character , which is entirely different are what I liked the best about the film. ”
Aalaap Bhaagwat has written the story and the dialogues for the film while Yash Khanna is the Director of Photography. Ashish Mhatre and Apoorva Motiwale are the editors while Vivian Richards has composed the music. The sound design is by Anmol Bhave.
‘Quarter’ will be Girija Oak – Godbole’s first short film
Having done many TV commercial ads, TV serials and Marathi films, we saw Girija Oak making her Hindi film debut with Aamir Khan’s ‘Tare Zameen Par‘ few years ago. Now, this versatile Marathi actress will be seen in her first short film ‘Quarter‘ which has been made in Marathi and English. Produced by Namrata Bandivadekar and directed by Navjyot Bandivadekar the story and screenplay of this short film is written by Alaap Bhagwat.
Speaking about her role in this short film, Girija Oak said that, “she always wanted to do a short film with a good subject, as it helps to convey the message in a shortest time. And, with ‘Quarter’, it helped her to find a suitable role “. According to her, this role was different and challenging for an actress like her. Director Navjyot reacted stating that for this role in his short film, he was looking for versatile actress and after hearing the script, Girija immediately agreed to work in this film.
