Now, a Marathi film ‘Raaiba’ inspired by ‘The Godfather’
World famous author Mario Puzo’s crime novel ‘The Godfather‘ which was published in 1969 became so popular that it inspired 1972 Hollywood film with the same name, followed by sequel few years later. This novel also inspired 80 film makers from all over the world to make films in their language on this subject.
‘The Godfather’ is a famous crime novel written by Italian American author Mario Puzo, originally published in 1969. It details the story of a fictional Mafia family based in New York City, headed by Don Vito Corleone and also provides the back story of Vito Corleone from early childhood to adulthood. In Hindi, we have seen films like ‘Dharmatma‘ , ‘Dayavan‘ and many other crime based films on underworld, inspired by this novel.
Now, Marathi film maker Milind Arun Kavde, who has made films like ‘Yedyanchi Jatra‘, ‘Four Idiots‘,’Just Gammat‘, ‘Shinma‘ and ‘1234‘ has accepted the challenge of making a Marathi film titled ‘Raaiba‘ on this subject. Having noticed the success of films like ‘Rege‘ and ‘Dagadi Chawl‘, it is not surprising that a film based a world famous crime novel is being made. According to Milind Kavde, he was in search of a script to make a film on this subject. And, he felt that the subject of Godfather was more interesting. He has however made suitable changes to suit the subject to Marathi audience. This will be the story of a farmer’s son, who later becomes a Don. The film will star 35 well known artistes from Marathi film industry and it will be a song based film.
